    When I was in High School, I remember reading the poem The Fringed Gentian. Now I see what the poet meant. You're out there in the field and almost everything has gone to seed and turned brown, when you see that little burst of blue color, as if a piece of the sky had fallen into a haystack.

    Saved a couple Maples & oaks today while waiting for a Dr's appt. They were girdled by the straps left on when planted, prolly 5 years ago. My good deed for the day besides collecting seeds almost every day. Hoping to completely replace my

    Love your videos! So informative. You found many tall grass prairie plants in bloom including the beautiful Gentiana. I call it the last flower of the season on the prairie I work at in Minnesota. For people to see more of the plants in bloom you need to video tape a couple weeks earlier but then we would have missed the Gentiana. That would have been a loss for all of us. Thanks again!

    Buckwheat honey is really good for sore throats, even if it doesn’t do much for a cough. Also, white tea (less processed than black or green tea) is the type of tea that has the most anti microbial properties, so it’s the best kind to drink when you’re sick (just make sure the water’s not boiling; it should be around 160-170 degrees Fahrenheit). Hope you and your mom feel better soon!

    Nice Prairie! I see a lot of Sumac unfortunately. I have been told by prairie experts that tends to be worsened by spring burning, which is unfortunately a common habit of the MDC management style at current. Dormant season burns promote better forb diversity. I love the Gentiana puberulata! Have seen some on Paintbrush prairie about this time of year. :) Silphium laciniatum is great too. If you can smell the Blue sage you probably don't have the 'Rona (yet). I caught it two weeks ago from either my kids or students. It typically robs you of the ability to smell in general but especially the smell of resinous and aromatic plants. I was just able to smell my Basil again today. Had a nice friend collect lots of seed of prairie plants for me this year since I was sick at prime time.

      Scott The Green Ghost our state is really not to different than the rest of ‘murca; it would be a great place to live if it weren’t for the people. But what’s left of the natural world is beautiful.

    Joey, you should check out Ontario . I'm talking the Province in Canada, not the urban decadence of California. The ecology of the Canadian Shield will blow your mind.

    Can someone please tell me why the pronunciation of "phyllary" sounds like file instead of fill? The way it's written, my brain wants it to sound like fillary.

    • @widdershins3476
      @widdershins3476 4 года назад

      in some languages, double consonants make the preceding vowel a short vowel, this is just an exception, it is confusing because phylon means race, and is pronounced like 'file', but phyllary is from phyllon which means leaf... so maybe they distinguished them in greek that way, and we just carry on their linguistic baggage

    Do Gentianas and Silphium laciniatum need cold stratification? Are Silphium laciniatum seeds viable if they are flat?

    • @Sköldpadda-77
      @Sköldpadda-77 4 года назад

      Prairie Moon says Silphium needs 60 days of cold stratification, but as for being flat, I guess that’s relative. They are flattish anyway, so I dunno.

    • @Sköldpadda-77
      @Sköldpadda-77 4 года назад

      I should add that the last Prairie Moon catalog had a good artificial stratification demo in it and they also sell a book called “Starting Seeds” by Barbara Ellis ($9.00) but I cannot vouch for its quality as I’ve not read it. Still, go request their catalog!
