  • Mirabel's Secret Gift Explains Why Abuela Doesn't Actually Like Her...| Disney's Encanto
In Disney’s Encanto, Abuela was shown to be a tough-loving grandmother who was tough to love herself. She was strict with all of her children and grandchildren, but the one who got it the worst was Mirabel, and while on the surface her disdain for her granddaughter appeared to come from the fact that Mirabel didn’t have a special gift like the rest of her family, the real reason is much deeper. In fact, it looks like Abuela might have been extra hard on Mirabel because every time she looked at her granddaughter, Abuela was reminded of a key moment in her traumatic past.

Nah I think it’s more like “this miracle is the only thing that will prevent the people that killed Pedro from killing us all” and when Mirabel didn’t get one she thought maybe that was that, there would be no more. So she was terrified of what might happen to the town when she died and she put that on Mirabel because she had no other explanation for it. Plus Bruno vanished at that time too so she was under so much pressure and stress and all because Mirabel didn’t get a gift. She just unfairly blamed her for her stress

Abuela saw Mirabel as as the family's weakness and the end of the magic. She was so nervous about the next grandchild getting a gift because of what happened with Mirabel. She associated Mirabel with the miracle disappearing.
Abuela was so used to running things for her town, protecting the people in it ect that she put that on the whole family. She basically sacrificed their lives and happiness to make sure the town was taken care of. All her pride and sense of responsibility was centered around that town and the position she held.
She treated Mirabel better in the end because she saw how wrong she was about things. She saw that she was hurting everyone in her family. She saw how much importance Mirabel placed in the family & miracle when she went to save the candle. She also saw Casita (part of the miracle) responded to Mirabel.
I think she finally realized instead of seeing Mirabel as an enemy of the miracle she should have been embracing her as family. This also went into her realizing she had been tearing down her own family.

She still couldn't get over her husband's death. She needs time to grieve. She doesn't like being old and didnt like that her granddaughter doing what she was going to do later in life. She knew that she was a younger version of herself and she will keep the family together when she passed. They are both keepers of the candles in two different ways but at the same time the same

I thought of something while watching the video. What if Antonio got his gift because of Mirabel? If she hadn't walked with him during his ceremony would the same thing that happened to Mirabel ten years ago happen to him?

Also the animals are still there when the family loose their gift. Almost as if while weakened Antonio didn't totally lose his gift. Perhaps because it came from two separate sources not one like the rest of the family.

      selfish
      adjective
(of a person, action, or motive) lacking consideration for other people; concerned chiefly with one's own personal profit or pleasure.
Abuela wasn't selfish just focused on the wrong thing. Focused more on other's than herself or her family.

I have always thought Mirabel’s gift was Casita itself and being able to communicate with it completely and there are many things in the movie that prove that I am right. The first thing is Mirabel’s door went into the floor as if the Casita was absorbing it to tell everyone what Mirabel’s gift was. But no one understood this and thought the door had vanished. But if the door was supposedly vanishing when Mirabel touched it and she had no gift then why didn’t it disappear instantly or from the floor up faster than when it went into the floor. Casita is essentially one huge room divided into smaller rooms or sections which is why Mirabel didn’t get a room. Second piece of evidence is how Casita actually listened to Mirabel and responded to her questions and even had actual conversations with her whereas all it did with Abuella is do simple tasks she had asked it to do.

Years of toxicity can not be made up with one semi apology. Abuela crossed from being strict into emotional abusive with her family.

I don't believe Abuela was trying to help Mirabel at all, she valued the magic more then her family. She did loved them, but it was magic that saved her, her children, and the people. Since then, Abuela has been trying to ensure that her family is worthy for the miracle to stay with them. It was only when Mirabel stood up to her, after being unfairly blamed for everything, that Abuela finally sees the emotional abuse she has unknowingly put on her whole family, that she sees her own faults. Then follows her to the river to apologies, but did expect to b right there during the worst night of her life. As for how she treated Bruno, its just like in other movies, shows, and rl of in the old days when the world truly believed in seers. People only want good news about their future, and assumed that bad news r lies or its the seers fault.

@@jfk2428 where I think she failed the most was apart from not helping mirabel to find where she could be an asset without a gift but also in that lack of understanding, she failed to see the gift as a blessing instead of the burden she did she. Mirabel needed her attention and never got it and that’s where I mainly fault Alma here. She chose to ignore the grandchild that was cheated out of her gift

It has nothing to do with her gift. It's all about the prophecy. The grandmother loved mirabel until she saw that her granddaughter could destroy the family's image.

You are making this to deep. It's still a disney movie. The grand mother doesn't like Mirabel because she has no gift, no powers, nothing. It's like when someone is abusive to you just because you have not the talent that they want you to have.

What sticks out to me about Abuela's back story was how her husband ran up to those machete swinging horsemen. The only way that makes sense to me is if he knew there was a source of magic that could save them, but it would only awaken in response to a sacrifice, so he made one.
Abulela may have felt that Mirabel's lack of magic was because the girl was not being respectful of her grandfather's sacrifice.

*Video:* Child-Emotional-Abuse Apologists for the Grandmother
You could use this exact same excuse for why terrible parents abuse their children. She's a narcissistic (grand) parent and parent. Without Bruno to blame everything on, she instead re-focused on Mirabel. Golden child oc being Julieta and Isabel for their respective generations.

    • @GaleGrim
      @GaleGrim Год назад +8

Let's try and not throw around lables like "abuse apologist" for a theroy about a cartoon movie about magic candles and family drama.
Also abuela is shown to have heavily unresolved ptsd from trauma. She isn't a narcissists, she is over focused on keeping the candle burning and magic going as a trauma response. This causes her to have abusive behavior towards anyone/thing seen as a threat to it. Hence the very un-narcissistic lryic "And I'm sorry I held on too tight Just so afraid I'd lose you too The miracle is not some magic that you've got The miracle is you, not some gift, just you The miracle is you". A narcissist would NEVER admit others as worth while, they would take that moment to hold them selves up as "awesome".
