Jamaican people need to shop in the market also plant things at home when i was in Jamaica we never buy vegetables or hard food from supermarket or even the market because we grow our food
Because of safety reasons I actually don’t. I can’t bother to go downtown and have to be thinking about how I dress, how I speak, watching my bag like crazy. So I purchase all produce at supermarkets 😩😩 definitely want the market goods but I am just tired of the madness on the road
@ some vendors tell you a price based on how you look and how you speak. So if you dress posh and speak English well, especially if you have a foreign accent, some of them give you a high price. I don’t like that one bit.
Greetings from outta West Africa The Gambia 🇬🇲 I'm watching your brilliant video about food prices in Jamaica 🇯🇲 very expensive compared to here in the Gambia 🇬🇲 We get more for our money And Gambia 🇬🇲 has almost all the fresh vegetables and fruits just like Jamaica apart from yellow yam 🍠 And we purchase our produce in kilograms not pounds Keep up the great work 👍
Seeing Mommy‐Lin brought tears to my eyes, reminding me of times I went to market with my mom as a child and later as an adult when we visited. She hid her money inna har bosom too. 😢She isn't with us anymore but never forgotten. My heart aches every day since she left us, but my heart soars knowing she's with our heavenly Father. Thank you, Mother, for your sacrifices that gave me a life i couldn't have had without you at my side. Thank you for your love.
❤❤❤yes Roch. Downtown was my based to shop for market product many many years ago but girl soooo busy I have not been there but I like how you a promote the market. Big up it is a good look!!!
I enjoyed this video! I’m Jamaican but born in the US and growing up my parents loved to go to a public market in our hometown and haggle on produce. I’m sure it comes from their time in Kingston. I wish that we could get ackee at that price in the states!
I like how you said "I'm Jamaican born in the USA ". You are correct. Children born in the diaspora of Jamaican parentage are Jamaicans according to Jamaican law.
Great memories my mom would take us down to that market to shop and see our auntie who lived in country and sold in the market on saturdays. Good to see mommylin ❤
Started to watch you from New Zealand and honestly your voice is excactly the same as my cousins , we found out recently our great great grandma was from jamacia formerly Africa and I tell you you sound like my family plus your bubbly nature , really interesting about the vegetables it works out the same prices as we have here , thanks for the cool video
Awesome story. I have been fascinated with your country and hope to visit one day. Another Jamaican Vlogger did a feature of a Jamaican academic who had moved to NZ and loving it. Maybe you could connect with that Jamaican there and who knows you may be related. Many Jamaicans live in your neighboring Australia.
This video divert my mind from the negativity going on. Hahaa money tucked in the bosom I used to do the same bloody thing back then Rochielin. It's good shopping. You've got real organic fresh food do enjoy
That was a good expedition but Coronation Market is the cheapest market in Jamaica so perhaps you could try Cross Roads and definitely Ocho Rios just for comparison
Rochelein, l admire how you exlporing the lovey Caration Market Boy! Rochelein you get alot of bargai for your money. A can of ackee would be $9, 10 or 11.00 a can, breadfruit would be $2.99 to $3.99 a Ib, callaloo $2.99 to $3.99 lb or $10.00 per bag. Yellow yam is $6.99 per lb, and alot more things are way more cheaper back home. People complain too much. A $100.00 US dollars cant buy much in the States. If people would go to the market on a Wednesday or Thursday they would get things very cheap. I am so happy to see your mom tagging along with you , and your husband. Keep Up The Good Work. Blessings.
I had to go shower; but, when I saw Jan 2025 I started watching and couldn't stop watching.. I sent it to a friend in Jan; and she acolded me why I'm sending her outdated vids. I retorted I just saw it so it's fresh to me. I'm glad for a fresh one to show her.
I watched the video from start to finish and was pretty impressed with what you were able to buy for $5000. The green bananas would be $2.99 to $3.99 CA/ lb. here. We buy tin Ackee for $6 to $9 / tin. That 1 dozen Ackee would be about 4 tins. I would not even talk about the June plum, the Callaloo, sorrel and the other goodies. Plus, they are 'REAL' food. BTWY Sorrel makes good tea. I steep it just like I do other herb teas! It is a good immune booster.
As a regular market goer. Since the panini, and the hurricane, hard rains etc. This is the cheapest market has ever been in a long time. Tomatoes used to be 900 a lb, sweet pepper was up in the 1000's a pound. The prices are also dependent on who you go to. I tend to shop around the side that faces Tivoli. Which works out better for me. Always big up Mr. Mention with the parsely, cilantro, etc!! we working to help pay off his stall loan!!
@@Nickywigs lol. No idea where top or bottom is. I just know I park on the Tivoli side, and walk across. I don't walk much. I have my set people and I stay within a square. Will probably do a short and show my route. And who I go to who I trust won't overcharge me, give me likkle brawta and also educates me on things like storage.
Thankyou soooo much for walking through the market!! Omg! We were in kingston for the freedomstreet concert & didn't have time to visit the market! Love this place 🙏🏼😎🇨🇦❤️

Nice video Rochielin. You have a wide audience sand I see most of your US and Canada saying this was a great deal however it’s all relative because if a Jamaican resident who works minimum wage buys that it’s half their weekly salary. On the flip side that price in Jamaica would be expensive in many parts of Africa. Nice fresh produce either way.
I WAS IN JAMAICA FOR A MONTH IN NOVEMBER...WE WENT TO THE MARKET IN MANDEVILLE, CHRISTIANNA ,MAY PEN AND CORONATION MARKET..CURRY !!!!..THE EXPERIENCE WAS GREAT 👍 ALTHOUGH I HAVE NO DON THAT SINCE BEFORE YOU WERE BORN 🎉🎉🎉..LIKE YOU SAID SOME OF THE PEOPLE WERE NICE AND SOME WERE NOT SO NICE...I THINK WHAT YOU GOT FOR 5000.WAS GREAT..!!!..WHEN WE WENT TO THE SUPERMARKET THE BILL WAS ALWAYS TWELVE TO FOURTEEN THOUSANDS DOLLARS 💸..OF COURSE WE COULD NOT GET SOME OF THE PRODUCT IN THE MARKET SO HAD TO PAY THE PRICE. 😉 😀 😜 👍 YES MY FRIEND THINGS ARE REALY EXPENSIVE IN JAMAICA 🇯🇲...I AM GLAD THAT YOU ARE BACK SENDING OUT VIDEOS GOOD TO SEE YOUR MOTHER..
Bwoy rochelin me no know we ago manage when you gone😊....cause boy i missed your jamaican vlogs hope u get to do an hotel hop....girl u go market when the peice gone down...december was awfuul...fruits were cheaper than vegetables...first in my 31 years of my life i see that.
You really know how to shop and stick to your budget. I live in Spanish town and the prices are similar for some and sometimes i do the same i make a list and try to stick with it. Blessings to you and your family 🙏
On the whole the market looks clean and well laid out. Can only get canned ackee here $11.00 per tin!!!! Can you believe it? Its true!!! As to yellow yam, $5.00 per pound and most of it will end up in the garbage when you finish cutting out the blemishes (lol).
I also need to see this to let others in Ja know that when we send them something we jave annidea that if they go downtown they can get value for the money we sent them.
Not everybody in jamaica gets money from overseas or want money from anyone overseas. In fact I have a nice that lives in Dallas TX that I have to help her with her rent every month. There are many of us living here doing quite well for our selves.
Thank you, Rochelle for really sharing what $5,000 Jamaican dollar can get you in the Jamaican Market. It’s good to know you can get several items for $5,000 and fresh food as that.
Rochelin i calculate the J$ 5000 to Canadian dollars. Equal C$ 46. No way could $46 Canadian dollars buy all that groceries. Price of food here in Toronto sky high.
Thank you the video. When you buy garlic make sure the roots are on the bottom. If not present don’t buy. It’s coming from a long distance and was soaked in chemicals to preserve it.
Rochielin my dear, even thou you just might move to the state a couple years ago, food, living expense especially rent is double the cost from five, ten years ago. Therefore inflation is everywhere, for $35/ $5000 JMD that's a lot of fresh food in my view and the prices are reasonable, yellow yam in my neck of the wood is USD $3.99 per pound and 1 bok choy is actually $3. Nice seeing mommy again.
Well I’m glad that you showed us how to save money by buying at the market instead of the supermarket . You did well for the money that was spent. The advantage is that you purchased organic food.
Wow 5000k that’s less than 50 CDN $ and I would not be able to purchase all that at all … wow there is hope .. this no bad at all … and it’s all fresh ground provisions
That's the most reasonable market on Jamaica because the farmers from the bread basket parishes truck in produce from the farm and sell to vendors. I live in Spaulding and the prices are making me cry. These vendors are making a killing in other parishes. Ironically, the most ridiculously inflated prices of produce occur in markets in the farming belt.

I am a farmer, so I can prove that the cost of production is high. Hence all I can say is pple just need to plant their own food.
Still less expensive than the supermarket. We just need to buy your produce and stop buying the foreign processed food
