This is by far the best video I have ever seen on the topic. No gimmicks just an easy way to help the dog learn. I recently adopted a 6 year old pit bull that had been looked over for years because he was high energy. He was quite the puller on leash, after three fifteen minute lessons he gets it, and he loves to train. That high energy is now channeled into learning that he enjoys. Robert I can't tell you how much I appreciate you!
THANK YOU ! I've been fighting with my Aussie pup on a short leash. Your instructions make perfect sense and are basically what my pup is, excuse me, I am doing wrong. I can feel my frustration level dropping !
The way the GSD looked at you when you explained the mistake people can make giving sit the command .... priceless. You are a hero to all dogs (and me). 😎
I have to say your videos are addicting! Thumbs up everytime. I’ve gained so much knowledge from you in such a short amount of time. I love what you’ve built here, great job!!
Thank you for this video. I will be picking up my rescue dog today and know that I have a long road ahead of me since she has never been trained. It's been hard figuring out where to start but I think this is a great place! Keep up the great work! 👍🏼😊
Very informative sir! I have a 14wk old pup and she also try to bite off the leash and after watching this vid it help me a lot, it just took me 2 days for her to learn to walk with a leash😊
I love using a long line and have been working with my dog on one for a few weeks now. Thanks for showing folks how to do this with their dogs. It's something I figured out on my own but I think if more people would start with the long line a lot of leash issues would be resolved.
I'm am a dog trainer and lover in Maine. Great video, beautiful dog and awesome results I've been doing this consistently and patiently and went from a-z on pulling!
Great way to teach heeling I’m so use to doing the old school , no treats manly pressure and praise changing my and it is so much more fun and faster resold
This video helped me train my greyhound to walk realllly nice at heel. This really was super helpful. I thought heel walking was unrealistic with my dog until I saw how well this worked and this worked with her too. No pulling necessary.
THANK YOU THANK YOU THANK YOU!!! I've watched the 3 wrong training videos and this video. All 4 have solved the exact 4 problems I've been having with my 5 mo pup. You're techniques are spot on, thanks for sharing!!!
I'd love to see this with a less-trained dog. Interesting approach. I've taught large dogs to walk on a loose lead--staring when they were pups in my living room (two GSDs and a hound)--lots or rewards for staying at my side, etc. One has passed on and remained a lovely walking companion throughout his life (as did the hound)--and could be allowed to walk in front of me when "off duty" and asked to return to a heel without drama. The other--now elderly--lives with my son now and I'm told continues to walk nicely. Am currently working with a 10lb dachshund/schnauzer pup that I want to work on a loose lead. I may give this a try as she is extremely bright and trainable but very, very busy. I don't think I'm interesting enough, lol.
The... The hound stayed on your side...? My Plotthound will, given a long line, let out her inner hunter and start scenting. Granted, she was started on game tracks. And on a short walking lead I can get her to not get in front of me, if I remind her at the beginning that that's what I expect. But if I give her freedom, she will go hunting ...
Thank you for sharing your knowledge on making a happy do and happy pet owner. The long line has helped tremendously training my 10 week old German Shepard puppy to walk on a leash. Thanks again
I've watched quite a lot of videos regarding my gorgeous staffy lola, this has been the best one I've seen I'm taking her out later to train. definitely subscribing thanks.
I have a GSP and she acts the same way the dog in your video acts. I will be going out and buying a long lead this week end and practising the techniques shown.
I watched this video late last night. I got up early and cut a 21' length of black nylon webbing attached a snap on one end with a Conway buckle and a loop on the other with a Conway buckle. I used it this morning on my year old Husky bitch I got from the pound two months ago. I have her working with a 5' leash but what a difference that extra 20' of leash made. (I snapped the 20' line onto a ring in the loop of the 5' lead giving me a 25' line.) Absolutely no leash pulling as I turned and changed directions. People have suggested a retractable lead but I know I'm going to enjoy walking her with this 25' line for sure. Haven't reached the point of turning her loose except in a well fenced environment. She is a runner and enjoys just taking off exploring which I need to work on with the long line before I can turn her loose. Thanks for all the many training tips you provide. Even though I've trained a lot of dogs and had a K9 in the 1970s when I was a Deputy Sheriff I recognize there is a lot out there that I don't know. Yet that is.
Thanks for this content Robert! I thought it would be a "wise" idea to take the husky mix I walk onto a nice 15-foot lead in a field to burn off some energy before structured work on loose-leash walking. Well we were having a really fun, rompy, lovely time until he saw a TEENSY chihuahua off in the distance. He got SUPER excited about it (think he couldn't believe it was a dog 😆😆💕 ) , was at the opposite side of me than little dog, so had all the slack to run back my direction, past me AND the remaining slack (meaning 30 feet) to get up speed, tore me down, nearly dislocated my shoulder and dragged me about 3 feet (I'm fine 😳). What did I do wrong here? (I'm on a major learning curve on my way to eventually becoming a dog trainer...!) TIA and very excited to watch your videos!!!
Hi Robert, I learned a lot about your video training. I have 3 Dutch Shepherds. They are well balance dogs. I still keep on training them everyday. Thank you for your tips.
Again thanks yes I had a dog that like to lead me but all my other dogs lead from the hip but again didn't really train but just happen now at least I have some ideas of how to achieve that with training thank you
Perfect training video I have a 6 month old smooth terrier mix She is defiant on a leash and constantly chews and pulls on leash Super attentive, so I know dhe will do well in training but the leash training has been a huge stumbling block
Great video, been having trouble with this for a while with our pup but noticed he calms down a lot on an extending lead(he has a harness on, no choking)
I really respect you and i'm going to start using treats in my training, but i have to step in and say " not true" on the first part of video. I am just a pet owner and learned to train dogs from books in the mid 80s. One of the first things i taught my pups and other misbehaved adult dogs is how to walk properly on a leash. 99 percent of the time i have a dog or pup heeling and sitting in one or two day on leash and soon after on voice command alone. In the end i only used hand signals and whistling to recalled my dogs from a distance, to a heel when i lived in the mojave desert. And my dogs loved me and were happy till the day they passed. So i am going to try new things with my new pup when i get her so as to get rapid response to a command but i don't compete so ir's not really needed but i want to keep learning more in my life even tho i'm an old dog myself. Thnx for all that you do and be blessed, Leo
Hey how's it going. I'm aware there are many ways to train a dog. I would just like some more detail on how you do it if that's alright. I'm wondering how you leash train that is. Thanks! :)
You are a great teacher! Thankyou for sharing your knowledge! I have tried two trainers and leash training has not been helpful! Your education on this sounds much more on point!
Another awesome video. I have absolutely nothing to add. I know I need to teach my Ruby to heel better but I am not much of a walker. I prefer to go to the back yard and play fetch a lot and lots of tug.
I love this video and for sure going to try it with my rescue puppy. He is the master in pulling the leash and darting regularly from my side to smell every single tree, which makes walking a very tiring experience for us.
Do you have any good literature on commands? I know you can train whatever word to associate with an action/in action, but I'm about to get a Mal and thought it would be cool to have a different language for her commands.
Robert! I have adopted a GSD puppy 5 weeks ago (She is 16 weeks old now) and she quickly learned commands "sit, down, come, stand, leave it, on the box, off the box, let's go, here, go home, down the stairs, up the stairs, and stay" WITH YOUR METHOD (for some of them she is perfect, for some we are still working). I have to most of the training in the apartment due to the COVID-19 lock-down that is hard. BTW, I have below questions: 1- She does the commands (especially the "down" command) with delay and patience. How can I correct this to do the commands immediately? 2- Most of the time when I ask her to stay, she sits and stays, sometimes I expect her to stand and stay but she usually sits. Do you have any idea? 3- I want to know for a GSD puppy who is trained so far, shall I continue for further commands or do I have to work on her to do these commands perfectly. 4- When I take her out for doing her business, if she notices another dog, she barks. If she notices pedestrians, she usually doesn't bark but pull the leash toward them and wants to follow them! I think part of this behavior must be normal as a puppy, but it will be a bad habit. How I can stop this? Appreciated if you answer.
My dog is in front of me all the time and not focus on me so it's hard to work with him. This dog is focus on the trainer which makes it so much easier.
Any recommendations to work with long leash for a dog who is very anxious outside and noise sensitivity doesn't allow him to take take treat. He just won't take them because he is just too nervous,, busy trying to hide between my legs or run back inside. This is a 2 yo Australian Shepard.
Is there any rhyme or reason about which side you walk the dog on, or train them to walk on? I've heard you should walk the dog away from the Street side on the sidewalk. Thoughts?
I have a 14 week old golden. We are learning her to walk without pulling. My teacher says when she bites the leash just drop it and walk away. When she stops pick it up again and continue. When she pulls i have to stop, wait till the leash isnt tight anymore and till she makes eyecontact with me.reward her and then start walking again. I also have a 9y old golden. I went with her to dogschool when she was young. There we just had to yank the leash whenever she got behind or in front of u. She walks nicely besides me and i often walk her without a leash. So she kinda learned it the hard way and back then i didnt knew any better. Glad i know a different way now. Good video and great dog u have.
You have to make sure, your dog comes when you call him. Bro. You’re the best I’ve seen and I’ve watched a lot of different trainers in my life time.
Ye bro he’s the man
Facts! Everything he says is straightforward and makes total sense!
She's like glued to your leg 😅 What a good girl!
THANK YOU ! I've been fighting with my Aussie pup on a short leash. Your instructions make perfect sense and are basically what my pup is, excuse me, I am doing wrong.
I can feel my frustration level dropping !
Your dog training videos really show how much of a well trained dog goofy is
The way the GSD looked at you when you explained the mistake people can make giving sit the command .... priceless. You are a hero to all dogs (and me). 😎
DUDE!!!! The "nibble" portion is alone worth watching this!
Thanks again

How is she doing?
My new Rescue huskey needs this. This makes so much sense!
Mya is adorable ❤️ and you are an excellent trainer. You videos are greatly appreciated. Thank you.
I'm glad I came across this old video. Maya is just like my dog Prince. I have a feeling my dog is high drive too.
Good demo quite different than the normal way we are taught. Absolutely beautiful scenery in California ☀️
Best trainer video viewed for dog training
Very informative sir! I have a 14wk old pup and she also try to bite off the leash and after watching this vid it help me a lot, it just took me 2 days for her to learn to walk with a leash😊

BEST EVER... thanks from Samoa
Thank you so much.
THIS JUST BLEW MY MIND. A step I was missing in my training
Fantastic trainer! I can’t believe this advice is free. Thanks
This video helped me train my greyhound to walk realllly nice at heel. This really was super helpful. I thought heel walking was unrealistic with my dog until I saw how well this worked and this worked with her too. No pulling necessary.
One of the best vids on training here
OMG THE NIBBLING DOGGO I LOVE IT

love to hear that!
So going to try this - like NOW !
Thank you so much, video tip almost made me crying :D, my teenager is perfect now! And without any harm for him!!
I'd love to see this with a less-trained dog. Interesting approach. Man, your tips really are helpful. Thx. I’ve got a hyperactive 8 mo. Old that thinks everything is a tug, chase, or game.
how are you two doing today?
Great video !!
Thanks! I’ll try it! My German shepherd puppy pulls me so hard I have fallen. Training sessions haven’t worked.
SR great video!
Dude you are awesome
This video (and your others) have been so helpful!

thank you so much for your videos! you are the best trainor I've ever watched!! ❤️
You are amazing! I have to apply it to my dog! Thank you so much!

Great advice, working class dogs are super high energy.
Hi Robert, I learned a lot about your video training. I have 3 Dutch Shepherds. They are well balance dogs. I still keep on training them everyday. Thank you for your tips.
Great videos. I could use suggestions on how to give treats correctly to little dogs like Shih Tzu without ending up with a back ache!
Just toss it on da floor and pat him twice
Again thanks yes I had a dog that like to lead me but all my other dogs lead from the hip but again didn't really train but just happen now at least I have some ideas of how to achieve that with training thank you
Thank you 👍🏿👍🏻
Super
✨ I like your demonstration video Robert Cabral! Thanks! 👍🐶💜✌
thank you Shalila...
Now that was a great video!
The fast you change the direction the more she wants to be with you I always found walking faster got the same result
Thank you from Mongolia
Great tips! Thanks. Good work!!
Man you've been so helpful. Thank you!
Dear Robert...me and tusha (my malinois x german) send u the warmest Regards from Dubai...as u tought me to make her awesome with your videos
Perfect training video
I have a 6 month old smooth terrier mix
She is defiant on a leash and constantly chews and pulls on leash
Super attentive, so I know dhe will do well in training but the leash training has been a huge stumbling block
Makes perfect sense. Thank you for posting this.
Your training has changed everything thank you for all you do!
Great video, been having trouble with this for a while with our pup but noticed he calms down a lot on an extending lead(he has a harness on, no choking)
i don't recommend either, but that's up to you!
Yeah it's terrible for keeping him under control but I have a training lead to switch to and a long line is on it's way after watching this.
Amazing!
Extraordinary demo Cabaral. impressed a lot.
I really respect you and i'm going to start using treats in my training, but i have to step in and say " not true" on the first part of video.

Big up👍👍👍
Another awesome video. I have absolutely nothing to add. I know I need to teach my Ruby to heel better but I am not much of a walker. I prefer to go to the back yard and play fetch a lot and lots of tug.
So funny...I got the exact same bread (German Shepherd), her name is also Maya and she behaves exactly like this when I walk her on a leash.
Great video Robert!
Thanks Cheri. means a lot coming from you!
I love this video and for sure going to try it with my rescue puppy. He is the master in pulling the leash and darting regularly from my side to smell every single tree, which makes walking a very tiring experience for us.
I find this just in time. I have puppy rottweiler and malinois. Big help for me. Idk ppl still use choke chain?
best leash training video I'v seen so far! please can you advice how long each training section needs? and how many sections per day? Thank you!
I have been doing everything wrong, thank u so much
Do you have any good literature on commands? I know you can train whatever word to associate with an action/in action, but I'm about to get a Mal and thought it would be cool to have a different language for her commands.
Great video. How would this approach work with a small (7lb) dog? Especially giving treats.
the same way. treat each dog as a dog! keep it simple!!!
Robert! Appreciated if you answer.
The nibble the food in your left hand and walk.. would only work if your dog is tall enough to reach your hand while walking.
haha... definitely need to do this training with my 7mo GSD! Awesome quick video!
Maybe you could train Cesar Millan lol...your the best I've seen!! Thanks Robert. :)
My dog is in front of me all the time and not focus on me so it's hard to work with him. This dog is focus on the trainer which makes it so much easier.

Is there any rhyme or reason about which side you walk the dog on, or train them to walk on?
I've heard you should walk the dog away from the Street side on the sidewalk.
Thoughts?
I love Belgian malinois ❤
I have a 14 week old golden. We are learning her to walk without pulling. My teacher says when she bites the leash just drop it and walk away. When she stops pick it up again and continue. I'd love to hear what happened with the leash biting, and how and if you resolved it :D?
Great video, just one question. At what point one is able to walk with a dog without a leash.
Hi from Mexico 👋🏻
when the dog is proofed with a long line.
You have to make sure, your dog comes when you call him. In every situation possible, like when there are other dogs, sudden appearing bikers, a sudden appearing rabbit, etc.
I would recommend walking your dog on a long leash and train the coming back to you.
At some point you might notice, your dog will tend to stay in your radius. And watch you and your actions closely to follow you. If he also doesn't hunt, doesn't run to other dogs and comes back to you every time you call him (like for example when a bike approaches), then you are most likely safe to let him off leash. I always would have treats with you when your dog is off leash though. At least for the first weeks.
