For those who care, when they filmed Matthew McConaughey's reaction, they got his closeup first, which usually a filmmaker won't do because you start with wide shots and then go closer. And Matthew really hadn't seen the videos he was reacting to before. Those were his honest, raw, first reaction they got. Incredible filmmaking, incredible acting. And of course...Hans Zimmer..
that's really cool!
Did you know the scream from when he kicks the helmet is because he broke his toe?
Thet kept it in!
@@FishThatDavidBlaineSwallowed ah a man of culture
I believe they read the script out loud for him and these were his reactions. Not the films. But I may be wrong.
@@CAMELOT331 You made me look it up. :D He really reacted to the video messages. In Nolan's own words: "But he hadn’t seen the video messages-we’d filmed them all in advance, so that everything would be there in the moment-and he wanted to give us his first reaction. We shot it twice close-up, and I think I used the second one, because the first one was too raw. Then we shot the monitors, and the wider shots, and put it together."
The juxtaposition of "you're a grandpa" to "Grandpa died last week" is SOOOOOOOO devastating. Perfect storytelling.
Then him saying they buried grandpa next to mom and Jesse, who was his child just *NAILS* it home for me. It's just waves of grief after another.
One of the most heartbreaking scenes in cinema for me
There are literally only 3 other scenes I can think of at the moment that make me tear up without fail every single time I've watched them. This is one of them, along with the ending scene of Titanic, and the first 20 minutes of UP. Watching this for the first time was crazy, was not at all expecting some of the most heart wrenching and tragic couple of minutes I've ever seen before in the middle of a space travel sci-fi movie. Has to be one of the most dramatic gut punches I've ever seen during a movie...
Mine was watching the Star Wars franchise die in front of my own eyes in IMAX.
It creates a real sinking feeling doesn't it - the initial realisation of lost time on finding out it's been 23 years, followed by the realisation that you are about to watch all the videos, then watching the actual videos. Mortifying.
absolutely. for me it's about all the questions his kids must have and how they change right before our eyes from kids to adults. 23 years for poor Rommily! He must be sufferiung all kinds of psychological damage - remeber earlier in the film where he said he was just terrified by being in the ship? Fuck......
@@aouyiuLmfao at you!!
23 years in solitude GIVE THE MAN A BLOODY HUG ALREADY!!!!
Can't even imagine how it would feel😢
NO
He deserves a group hug
TARS included
Period
To die atlast in a blast😂😂
Can we just take a moment to appreciate the sheer acting skill it takes to show the entire range of emotions that Matthew McConaughey went through? Some people say he's a one dimensional actor that does rote roles, but Interstellar proves that he is a very dynamic, very skilled actor that deserves the accolades he's won.
I don’t think he’s a bad actor. I just think he’s been the victim of terrible scripts and directors
People who say Matthew McConaughey is a one dimensional actor have never seen anything he's been in.
What an insane take to have.
the interesting thing is that scene wasnt acted. that was his honest reactions.
@@RuanAntunes7 He got stuck as the Rom-Com guy for so many years. He had to work very hard and go through some slumps before anyone would cast him in more dynamic roles. We finally got this masterpiece.
Hi, hej, helo, hola, a-hoj, gotentack, konicviva, bonjour
♧]
and now i'm there, crying in front of my screen, watching people crying at the moments i've been crying before... it's a cryinception!
Even the toughest dudes get emotional with this scene....thank u christopher nolan for such a great movie interstellar
If you don't tear up even a bit, I hope you get the love you absolutely need and deserve 💗
I must be weird then because this stuff doesn’t make me cry….. nothing does to be honest(I know how that sounds).
@@LikeTheNumeral Love is for children, same way you dont take materials to the grave, neither do you take love 🤷🏾♂ i know my fam has love for me but i genuinely dont see the need, trust gets you killed, love puts you in baaad situations, last time i cried was 1999 when my gran died, what am i gonna cry at a random movie that will have no meaning tomorrow?
@@tez_4116 you know. I'll offer you love because you may need it.
Everyone needs love. And especially those who have been hurt in the past
@@tez_4116 I am incredibly aware of the spite of my whole family showed me whole they thought it was even remotely like real love
The striking thing about this sequence is that it came out of nowhere.
They go down, have a little adventure, come back, and WHAM everyone's life is ruined.
I had a terrible relationship with my mother in my young adult years. I didn't talk to my mother for years. After I saw this movie... it changed me. I remember being at her front door and begging her not to hate me, in tears on my knees. My mother came down and just held me in her arms. I was 25. I'm 32 now, and I'm so thankful to this movie to this day for showing me how important it is to cherish the moments you have with your loved ones. A 2 years after that, she started coming down with Parkinsons, and she has only progressively gotten worse as time goes on.
I implore with anybody who is reading this in hopes that it helps you see the light. Cherish the time you have with your loved ones, and especially your parents. Years later, just this year actually..., I sat down to watch this with her. She fell asleep while it played lol, but that's okay. I wouldn't trade that time for anything in the world.
Thank you ❤
That's beautiful. Thank you for sharing this. May you have many more good memories to share with her. God bless.
😢
Thanks for share this man !!
This scene, the ending of the green mile and the " could of got one more person" scene at the end of schindlers list are the only scenes to break me in my 48 years on this planet,
Same here, those exact ones too along with Marley and me. That one hit me as hard as it did cause I've had multiple dogs in my life. And both childhood dogs are honestly the only time I've ever seen my father cry.
Those and the first 15 minutes of Up were the only times I broke down crying during a movie.
You can try " Marley and me" if you love dogs, that movie made me cry the most 😢
"Put his glasses on! He can't see without his glasses" My Girl.
Could have* Sorry, don't hate me, someone like Schindler wouldn't have made that mistake, lol.
If you don't cry during this scene then you're just genuinely sociopathic.
I’ve seen the movie countless times and dozens of reaction videos and I still cry every time. I sort of think it’s therapeutic in a warped way.
😂🤣
I daresay this scene should be a legit test to see if someone is truly a sociopath and has no empathy lol.
Especially as a parent. It destroys me.
Maybe I have some kind of mental condition but no matter how sad I feel I've barely ever cried at things since I was like 12, although I still feel like crying lol.
i think what makes this scene so heart-wrenching is the layers. i always think about how he might be looking at these messages as though they're from the perspective that he's dead, and with his kids having no way to know, it's really like they're leaving letters at his grave and only hoping that he'll see them somehow.
The only thing I think is a shame about this scene is that a lot of people don't pick up on the 'I buried him next to Mom and... Jesse' line. I've only ever seen a few reactions in which the reactor realised that Jesse, the baby in the video, had died also.
Yeah it was just major grief punch after major grief punch. Just so monumentally heartbreaking beyond words. I don't think my sanity could survive if that happened to me.
Heartbreaking..
You know, i judged Matthew McConaughey back when he did romcoms. But legitimately he may be one of the greatest actors of our days
Dude is an absolutely incredible actor, his performances in true detective and Dallas buyers club are some of the best in tv/film history.
@@puppetmaster8551 his autobiography was actually amazing.
@@puppetmaster8551 His performance in True Detective really blew me away. I just watched that series on a whim and Season 1 is one of the few series I'd call a masterpiece.
@@XxXDestroyer it’s one of the best seasons of tv ever and his performance is legendary. So damn good
@@puppetmaster8551 I totally agree, it's actually incredibe. I was a bit let down by the other seasons but I'm glad they're each their own contained season. You going to watch season 4 that stars in 2 weeks?
I swear Chris Nolan and Han zimmer team up to purposely crush people’s souls lol
One of the best pieces of fiction ever created
IT IS THE BEST!!!!
For me this scene is one of the few that bring me tears each time I watch it. It is soul crushing and I think this scene is splendid.
Truly one of the greatest scenes in cinematic history
This movie made me cry too I know the pain of having a family and being in that position is just incredibly beyond overwhelming.
💔💔💔😞😞😞😞😞😢😢😢😭😭😭😭
I think this scene is the reason this movie is my favourite movie. Didn't cry when I first saw it but I watched the movie with a friend of mine and we had to pause the movie and talked for over an hour about the scene because we had such a hard time processing what happened. No movie ever had such an impact on me.
I was a complete goner in the theatres during this... Love you nolan
The score in this movie is out of this world fantastic
Legend says Christopher Nolan had Hans zimmer make music and when he finished he played it for Nolan and says” I guess I have to make a movie now”
This movie layered on multiple stacks of emotional damage during this scene.
The most emotionally devastating scene in all of cinema.
I believe that a person who is getting emotional over this is a good person with empathy ❤
Love JustTrustAsh channel reactions. He and his gf Hannah did a great reaction to the Snape reveal.
yep, i miss the old ashgan
Watching their reactions I realized crying is contagious 🥹
I can watch it again and again I will always start to cry with this movie, the acting, the emotion and the music are what make me cry
I always cry at this scene. Not only is the acting and music phenomenal but I think a lot of people, me included, see this scene and put themselves in his position. What would it be like if only 1 hour for you was 7 years on earth? And the realization of everything you've missed, the people who have died and you'll never see again. Given he didn't have much time to say goodbye, you can feel the pain he's feeling here. Even if it will all be worth it in the end, there's no forgetting the pain of never seeing the people you love again.
The way that dude just tosses the towel I 😂😂😂. Because I know how that felt bro I did the same when I watched it the first time too.
Yeah he was NOT prepared with no tissues around so had to improvise 😭😭🤣🤣
this scene and when he's screaming to Murph to not let him go 😢
That and the “because my dad promised me” scene. Rips me apart every time…
It's purely, coincidentally 23 years and 4 months until my daughter is my age.
I love this film and this scene but it just hit very hard right now just how categorically devastating it would be to blink and miss that. It feels like it moves at that pace already.
That movie is just too much in every single sense. Definitely my number 1 at my favorites list.
this sublime background score, it makes this movie eternal...
Thx for sharing these emotions! I felt the same.
video title: if you want to cry, click here
Or "If you want to see if you still have a soul...click here" Lol
The acting performance of McCounaghey here is just stellar.. Looks actually genuine.
This is easily the most emotional scene of all time. Cant get over it.
Interstellar is not just a movie it's an experience.
Forget the black hole paradox at the end, Romilky was easily the most mentally resilient of the Free for surviving 23 years on a spaceship the size of the Endurance. Man deserved better than getting blown up on the very next planet.
*Romilly
This masterpiece of a film is the true definition that time is the only enemy we truly have.
Subject matter like this really puts life into perspective. Differences in religion, political views, wealth and status really seems pretty damn miniscule. Time for the human race to get rid of our egos and hatred and become the human family we are meant to be.
I watched this movie when I was young and I took this exact message away from it way back then, it really shaped how I view things, especially the dumb stuff we humans get so worked up over.
@@GeraltORivia You sound like a self aware intelligent person. That's pretty rare these days.
Exactly. Sadly, the human race's greatest enemy is still ourselves and will remain so until we mature as a species.
This scene really shows how time really flies, it’s heartbreaking, and always will be the best scene in human history
Seriously one of the most underrated movie transitions of all time. The transition transcends through space and time as it depicts love, the entire theme of movie.
10:53. That, that right there is why Interstellar imo is one of the most important movies someone can watch. It has a way of showcasing the insanity that is our universe. The grand scale/force and strangeness that comes with it all. It teaches people about how gravity affects time, it's something that most people never think about or get taught.
I love this scene. It reminds me of the epilogue to The Songs of Distant Earth.
Watching that in imax when it first rolled in the theaters was an experience I’ll never forget. And got the blu ray combo pack with an actual piece of I max film they used. They cut up frames and stuck them in those special edition combo packs.
This scene along with the leaves from the vine scene in the last airbender are the only 2 scenes that make me tear up each time I see them.
Im watching these reactions to remind myself that i am still human
Love this movie
Just rewatch today. I'm crying like a baby. Such an intense emotional scifi ever😢
This scene get me everytime eben after having watched the movie more than 5 times. And seeing this video made me cried and I was emo all the way through. Strange thing cause when the movie got out I read couple top critics comment on Rotten and many of them were saying they didn't felt anything, that the movie was aseptic.
The Hans Zimmer score int his film makes the reality of what’s happening all the more impactful.
I think we all cried at that moment...
Mary Cherry's reaction to Murph's message back to Coop is mine most every time I watch the movie. A kid hoped their dad would come back, and he didn't. That makes me cry every time.
I don't remember that movie to be sooooo fucking on point with those feelings.
I think thats the best movie scene i ever watched.
To me this is the perfect scfi movie. Not one second of this film is wrong. It's perfect.
best film I saw in my life
As "Just Trust Ash" pointed out, that soundtrack when he's watching the messages, completely pushes me over every time.
This and "Because My Dad Promised Me" 😭
Coop and Murhphy cried. They crode. We all crode😢
Not that the Oscar's are worth shit, but thr fact that Matthew didn't win shit is a crime.
Imagine waiting 23 years just to hear “there’s nothing here for us” 😭
Nobody was prepared for this movie.
i’ve watched this scene and so many reactions to it… idk why i do this to myself 🤦🏽♂️
Let's also recognize that the body on planet looked fresh, from a certain view the body on the surface was still fresh.
0:57 lol the pc counted the time my man's sleep sacrifice went into waste 😂
Took me awhile to figure this one out...
With John Lithgow's involvement, Nolan slid a slick one into our beds:
Miller's planet, no.
Mann's planet, negative.
Where would we land folks??
Wolf's Den.
The 3rd Rock from Gargantuan!!
Ash is such a good guy.
Could you imagine sitting down and binge watching the lives of your kids?
I first learned of time dialation from an anime called Gunbuster. The sadness of the idea always stuck with me...
The woman in the first video is very emotional and i thing i like her 😢❤
this movie had me crying
😢😢😢
Must be so bizarre and jarring to see your children grow up to your age when for you physically it hasn’t been that long
This scene breaks everyone lol
I love that the msot of them did not even react on Jesse's death. Or just did not understand it...
Yeah it's kinda easy to miss as it's mumbled sort of so I think a lot of viewers missed it the first time, I did. Matthew's acting in this scene is just spot on except for when he hears that his grandson had died, even though he never met his grandson and didn't form a bond..still, I thought maybe he could've shown bit more emotion there, too but it just may be the never bonding with em thing.
Crying for men is like yawning once you see another man start to cry thats it...
"Hans Zimmer bro.. you making it worse!"
I broke completely once Murph showed up
The fact this movie has not been awarded with best movie's oscar, nor best soundtrack that year, tells more of anything the Academy is a farse
I think big impactful scenes like these become memes because that's the only way people can handle the weight of the emotions.
Whoever didn't get emotional in these parts of the movie is not a human being.
Me watching the movie: 😭😭
Me reacting to others watching the movie: 😁😁
Its sad that when the son "Let's him go," that really was the end for him and his father.
Does he get back to see his family again?

This is emotion p*rn
I wish Ash's girlfriend watched this with him
Me too - Hannah has been a great addition to his channel!
Ash "FUck you Hans Zimmer get out of here with this music, you making it way worse"
Just Trush Ash's reaction is a real one, man. Had almost the same reaction myself in the theater. 🥲
I know this is supposed to be sad and everything, but it can’t help think “all of this was entirely avoidable”. 1. Don’t go to the place with the known time distortion first, and 2. Don’t go to it when you know it’s uninhabitable.
3. Read the scrip first BEFORE u choose the planet
I hate these videos of someone trying to make money by faking crying. But I’m out
Best idiotism. Congrats
lol the clips are copyrighted. No money to be made here. sorry.
I laughed so hard at this scene. I mean it's sad, but the crying is so obously fake and fabricated.
Well clearly you dont have taste.
@@ahmaranwar1488 Could be yeah. I just don't like basic fake crying scene. Nobody in real life cries like this, which is why I find it funny cause the director sooo wanted us to feel bad for the man, but it was too...."overdone".
Are you talking about the actors or the RUclipsrs?
@@Tman001100The actors. I like Mathew Mcconaughey, but this scene tried too hard.
I don’t think you’ve seen the world yet my friend , I’ve seen many people cry like this, including myself! It’s a mental breakdown kind of cry
I love that the msot of them did not even react on Jesse's death. Or just did not understand it...
