  • We use an infrared thermometer to see how hot a sparkler is.
As blacksmiths we deal with high temperatures every day. The temperature inside a bright yellow-orange forge is over 2000 degrees.
According to health and safety data, a Fourth of July sparkler can reach over 2000 degrees.
Based on the color of the brightest part of the sparkler and my experience working with hot metal, this seems accurate.

Oh cool. I just got that same model of infrared thermometer. Looks like the lasers on your aren't aligned either. Do you think that's intentional?

Great question! As far as I can tell from the documentation, the dual lasers are part of the design. The main adjustment to make for getting more accurate readings looks like the Emissivity. I'll have to play around with it some more, but thanks for watching and commenting!
