I have been using the iconic 'Rocket Reeds' made by Mark Lee (former US Marine) for the last 20+ years and cannot fault them. They have glass fibre tongues with rubber O-ring bridles. I also use the 'V-3 drier system' to keep the drone reeds and bores completely dry from condensation.
Great video thanks, I play the easy drone with the inverted bass, I have to say they are rock solid. My Mccallum pipes from the deluxe brochure are incredible. Thanks again for the video. Good luck to you.
Thanks for another great video and glad to see you back! I haven't tried the MG reeds but I've been going back and forth between Easy drone inverted bass and the Balanced Tone HR. I can't decide which I prefer. Have you tried the Balanced Tones? I'm curious what your thoughts would be between the two. Pretty expensive habit we have.
Cheers, Eric! I was away in Scotland so didnt get a chance to record. No, I havent tried the Balanced Tone reeds. It's definitely a comparison I'd be interested in doing. Perhaps in the near future :) Do you find there is a tone difference the Easy and Balanced Tone? Consistency? Yes, not a cheap habit in the slightest!
@@KyleBantaMusic I've not yet had the opportunity to compare the two. I'm still learning and have only tried the Balanced Tones, good strike ins and cutoffs .
I play a Mccallum instrument and have experience with both Ezee drone reeds and MG white mambas. I love the tenor sound of the white mambas, a wonderful full stable sound. In the base I prefer to play with an Ezee reed. For my feeling playing with a carbon MG reed in the base, makes the base sound too powerfull. The combination of tenor MG and Ezee base give a wonderfull in balance sound.
I know it's different from what most pipers prefer. It's with reason that many reed makers including MG bring sets of reeds on the market with only the bass in Carbon for a powerfull sound. Yes, I think everyone needs to find the sound they like for them self. Anyway, thanks for the videos. I enjoy them.
I have a MG set…but actually I do not tamed yet….I do not be happy with it, but because I am not able to get good sound. I use an Ezee drone reeds set and Selbie’s as well.
Can I ask what you mean by 'good sound'? Not every brand of drone reed will work with every bagpipe. I tried Selbies earlier this year and could not strike my pipe in more than once or twice! I've heard Selbies played by others and they sounded great! They just didnt work with my pipes (disappointing).
@@KyleBantaMusic Hello Kyle, my answer is included in your comment. What I mean is the same experience you said. The MG started bad when I strike…I worked with the tongue and screw…but I was not able to obtain a right work. I have a McCallum AB3 bagpipes set and using Ezee ( increased absorption) and sometimes I use Selbie’s bass drone reed with Ezee tenors……Good Lord! Bagpipes are an amazing challenge but bit difficult to tame…hahahahaah Best wishes and congrats for your excellent and entertaining videos.

@@larslaenen6296agreed, manufacturers produce more bass reeds with carbon tongues for power. Glad that you enjoy the videos, I enjoy making them.

Sir which drone is affordable?
If you want to save a bit of money, I'd go with the MG white reeds as they are about $60 cheaper than the carbon fibre reeds (white).
@@KyleBantaMusic Sir what is the price?
$99 for the MG reeds, $160 for the white carbon fibre reeds. You can Google search them and you fill find links to purchase if desired.
@@KyleBantaMusic thank u sir
