You can see through the Academy what ETH wants to do, when he has the right players. Watch LFC v MUFC under 18 game from last week.

This is gonna sound stupid, but do you think Ten Hag's trying to create all of this chaos, because he doesn't think we can play a good high line due to the defensive injuries?

He must do. I don’t understand the midfield thing this year. Last season we were at our best with Eriksen just holding beside Casemiro. We did cover up the midfield. This year the mad pressing thing just makes no sense

As weird as it may sound, it's intentional because of the technical limitations of the midfield and wings, and the physical and technical limitations of the backline.
      Reality is:
      1. We don't ever score from building from the back and we never score from patiently working the ball into the box.
      2. We've never had a season in a decade of averaging above 55% possession.
      3. Attacking and Possession based managers are forced to play pragmatic football with Man Utd's squad.
      4. Not even di Zerbi could save Brighton when his team has injuries, fatigue and missing system players. So like us, he is also forced to play pragmatically.

This is exactly what Man United fans, pundits and rivals need to realise. THIS IS ALL BY DESIGN. Erik Ten Hag was one of the most feared managers in the world with Ajax in the champions league. He is NOT blind. He knows where our vulnerabilities are. But he must not care. We need to win, he has a job to do so his high risk play is BY DESIGN

Excellent as always but isn't the more interesting/difficult thing to try to work out 'why' ETH is doing this? Given his record, I doubt it is because he is a fraud or out of his depth as some say. There doesn't seem to be much evidence he has lost the dressing room and players are refusing instructions. And how do we understand the dissonance between huge shots on goal and XG differentials week in and week out but close shots on target (Liverpool 7 v MU 5, despite Liverpool having about 45 billion shots on goal)?

Good analysis. The lack of joined up press from the line behind Hojlund and Bruno was an issue all game. Maguire and Kambwala were a bit more aggressive yesterday, but the lack of duels won from Casemiro vs Szoboszlai menat the latter just danced around the whole midfield. Man for man didn't suit Kobbie either. Maybe would've made more sense to stay compact in a mid press. EIther way, glad United managed to get a draw, even if they couldn't manage the game in the last 20 minutes whilst ahead.
Lots of positives (Mainoo, Kambwala) as well as some unsurprising negatives (chaos ball).

What I dont get is, everyone knows we have a horribly disfunctional press and we never seem to get it right, so why tf does ten hag still want us to play that high press, especially while playing a deep line, it makes no sense and i dont get it.

Yeah, I have questioned this before as well. I'm not sure why he hasn't forced his centre halves to play higher. When Spurs had a number of injuries, Ange played full backs in the centre half positions so he could continue to play a high line. I don't think we have been caught in behind once all season, which is mad when you consider we are playing with Evans, Maguire and Varane as our centre halves.

Because if he doesnt press he has to park the bus. And if he parks the bus everyone knows he parks the bus. Everyone is complaining about his style of play now, imagine what everyone will say when he parks the bus. And the best player to score from a counter (Rashford) is like a ghost at the momment.

@@beeftestosterone5519 25+ shots yet the last 3 games we only had 2 goals scored against us if you dont count penalties and corners. Do you even watch the games or just look at the stats? Most shots are garbage and not even on goal. 5 goals in the lasy 2 games came from set pieces and stuppid mistakes, those are the problems.

I am ETH out, but I think it’s unfair and (with all due respect) almost lazy to keep saying we rely on individual brilliance as if that is not BY DESIGN. The situation we are in is completely undesirable, Ten Hag probably has targets that he is required to meet. When we’ve a) Got a squad including players who severely lack consistency (technically) and b) Severely rotate our squads due to injuries/suspension etc, it makes it very difficult for there to be what I like to call a status quo on that pitch. Whenever we do that insane pressing structure where we sacrifice midfield “control” it is BY DESIGN. Our BACK LINE is how we defend. This is obvious when you often see us defending a counter and Dalot does not even commit to pressuring the opposition winger, instead he kinda just lollies back into a back line (to make it compact) THAT is when we are relying on individual brilliance, THAT is why we always see our centre backs have high interception games because ofc a team isn’t gonna get every cross perfect. I DO NOT AGREE WITH THE INTEGRITY OF THIS SYSTEM. But people make it as if ETH is somehow unaware of this and I think that is wrong
