Fun little story, I used to say “chill Winston” a lot around my niece (around 5 years old at the time) when one day my sister and bro in law were arguing so she told them both to “chill winston”, it was hilarious 😂

I saw it in a small theatre in a small town in Finland. I always read Empire Magazine (a movie magazine) and it was so hyped in it, and a smash hit in the UK, so I had to see go see it. Then I watched over and over again on VHS. I worked in a movie rental, and I think I had this tape at home for like a year. But then I took almost 20 years me to watch it again.

Fun fact: Jason Statham sales pitch in the beginning of the film was the bit everyone trying out for the part had to audition with and he got it because he actually used to sell shady goods on the corner like that before becoming an actor.

Here is a weird suggestion for you, The Hood series. The films are Kidulthood (06), Adulthood (08), and Brotherhood (16). They are UK crime films but from the perspective of kids in the inner city. The first two are the best but the third is a lot of fun too. An interesting watch mostly because it's a different side of the UK that had very little media made about it at the time and through the series you see a lot of actors who went on to bigger things. The series soundtrack even helped popularise grime with a lot of the actors being UK rappers as well namely Stormzy in Brotherhood just before he became massive.

Watching your reaction to this film is almost like watching this film for the first time for me! I have seen it to the point of being able to quote nearly all of it in the most irritating accent! I’m sure someone mentioned this by now, but this was Ritchie’s first film - raw, low budget, and utterly brilliant! No question it’s his best, hands down.
I had the incredible fortune to be living in South London when this film came out over there. I was 22, work/lived in a pub, and the young locals & I became fast (party) friends. They planned an outing when a few of us were off shift at the pub, and we all went to see this in the theater together. The Brits were SO excited for this film, and neither the film nor the audience disappointed. Mayhem in the theater as well as on screen. It was a legendary experience.
Here is one more detail that is incredibly f-ing cool and further ties me to this film in a big way. As I said, the pub I work/lived in was in South London. Battersea is the name of the neighborhood, so named because it was just across the - you guessed it - Battersea Bridge. Yes, that same bridge at the end of the film… which we walked across regularly and which we walked across on our way home from the film. Needless to say, everyone had a turn pretending to be Tom.

Haha, this man gets British films. Rock and Rolla & The Layer Cake are just as good as this movie. You won't be disappointed viewing either one of them. My first viewing of this film in the theater was so good,I watched it back to back in the same day. A lot of folks didn't get the dry British humor when it first came out,but to me it hilarious.

I don't know if you've been told this yet, Lenny Mclean the guy who plays Barry the Baptist in this (The huge guy) was an underground bare knuckle boxer and actually from this kinda world and known as "Britain's hardest man" and the "Guv'nor". Unfortunately he died shortly after this was made, but I always thought it was interesting that someone from the real English gangster scene was in it.

What a strange experience. I'm watching a reaction to a Guy Ritchie film with another Guy Ritchie (The Gentlemen) playing on my TV.
The barely conscious woman waking up to be an absolute badass with the machine gun was an epic moment of the film.
Happy New Year, James. Thank you for being one of the things that have helped me get through 2020. Your reactions have been a nourishing distraction from the worst of this year. May next year be better for all of us.

In a movie full of characters, Guy Ritchie cast some ACTUAL characters in Lock Stock.....
Vinnie Jones (Big Chris) - He was a 15 year veteran of English soccer, most notably with Wimbledon. He was known as a "hard man", a tough player who played very rough.
Lenny McLean (Barry the Baptist) - Lenny was a well known bouncer and unlicensed boxer who, by his estimation, had between 2,000-3,000 unlicensed fights. He passed away shortly after Lock Stock was released in 1998.
Sting (JD, the bar owner and Eddie's father) - Former lead singer of The Police, and very accomplished solo artist.
And yes, the narrator at the beginning was the actor who played Brick Top, Alan Ford

Guy Ritchie has described Lock Stock and Snatch as being inspired by stories he would hear in gyms and pubs in the 90s. I think it's a really nice touch that the story is narrated by Alan the barman, because it gives the story the feel of one of those outlandish stories you'd hear from a barman in an East End pub

i love the nicknames in these Guy Ritchie movies. Barry the Baptist, because he drowns people that owe him money.
these type of nicknames are either given or earned, you can't make one for yourself.
James VS Cinema could be Jimmy Flicks or a funny one like, Silent Movie James (because you talk through the film)

I remember once I went to London to watch England and me and a few lads in high spirits but behaving were shouting /singing " Engerland" when this bloke walked out of a doorway and told us to,' shut the f**k up" There was 8 of us. He threatened the biggest lad and we just stood there in shock. And moved on. A good 10 years later im watching this film and the voice pricks my ears up.And then that " I know you feeling." Then it clicked. The Guvnor. Lenny Maclean. This film doesmt even translate the menace he exuded...
