Yes, more Canadiana.🇨🇦 Kudos to Louie for bringing such great tunes to the Besties. This is from their debut album, " Black Noise", which was released by CBC Records but only sold it through mail order. Later released by Visa Records in the US they were given a wider release market and quickly climbed the charts.
Such a groovy tune with this progressive rock group and clever title using a phrase from Star Trek.

It is fun seeing you discover more Canadian talent from the 70's. There was a lot. We were musically spoiled and I am the first to admit it. A lot of us (Canadians) got to see these bands playing at our high school dances and other small venues in their beginnings. Fun times.

I have seen, FM band member, 'Nash The Slash' play live in southern Ontario in the early 80's. Amazing performance for a solo act that had one of the loudest amplifier set I was able to survive hearing.

You want more excellent, but seemingly forgotten 1970s and '80s Canadian rock/pop bands, check out Saga (On The Loose, Wind Him Up), The Kings (This Beat Goes On/Switchin' To Glide) and especially Max Webster (the quirky, fast tempo rocker High Class In Borrowed Shoes, Let Go The Line, Hangover, The Party, Diamonds, Diamonds etc.)

Heres some trivia. When they went to digitize it for CD they discovered the masters had been lost. They were sent to LA for a planned US release on lp and never seen since. The recording engineers at the CBC went and bought 5 copies from different record stores. Digitized from those lps. I have a remastered lp from a couple years ago.

I grew up in that era and Saga was from my area the Toronto/Niagara region so I know of FM and Nash the Slash very well and i liked them alot.
This area was chalk full of great musicians many never made it big but were still very good.Another band I got to see often was Saga another "ahead of it's time band".
I guess the reason why there were so many good musicians form this area is that there were many venues that could support the smaller bands and give them ways to make money and get noticed.

they released an LP/CD titled "Tonight." They have three really good songs on it that you and your commenters may want to check out. Look for the
songs: 1) Magic In Your Eyes 2) Dream Girl 3) Alone Together (Super nice rock ballad!).
Note: There was also a British band named "FM." Their best song is "That Girl" which is a real good rocker. You'll also find a great live version of this

RIP to Nash The Slash playing electric mandolin and singing background vocals to Cam Hawkins... and major kudos to Martin Deller on the drums. I'm a Nash fan and saw the band many times here in Canada. Nash left to do his own stuff but came back to FM for a bunch of great shows together. Phasors On Stun told me they were Star Trek fans and I was all in to that. Not all FM albums have Nash on it, Ben Mink filled in for electric violin and mandolin and their albums were more jazz fusion, Nash came back for the last couple of albums and they did shows together doing FM's music ( co-written by Nash ) and Nash's solo stuff . Great times back then!

Just ran across your reaction video...although "Phasors..." was not written as a "soundtrack" song, the band, FM was creating the music for a CBC science fiction Radio series (Johnny Chase: Secret Agent of Space), and wrote the album at the same time. Here is an interesting thing about the band...there are only *three* people in the band! Cameron Hawkins, who plays bass, keyboard, Moog Taurus bass pedals, sings lead and wrote most of the music for the band. The drummer is Martin Deller, who is a jazz trained drummer and purcussionist, and was a good friend of Neil Peart, the drummer from Rush. The third member of the band went by the stage name of Nash the Slash. He played electric violin, electric mandolin, some keyboards and vocals. The album this song is from, Black Noise, was chosen by Rolling Stone Magazine as one of the top 50 Progressive Rock albums of all time!
As brilliant as the band was, they consistently had bad luck with record companies, having multiple companies go out of business while they were signed to them! There are some of their albums that are not available today because of that, unless you were a fan back in the day, like myself, and have the vinyl. Sadly, Nash the Slash, whose real name was Jeff Plewman passed away in 2014.
