Simple fixes are often the best fix for something. While making the new stop pin seems simple, there is definitely a whole different level of skill required to be able to do it, which is definitely not simple. There’s a story of a famous painter, I don’t remember which one off the top of my head, that was sitting at a cafe, doodling on a napkin. Another customer watched and as the artist went to throw the napkin away, the customer asked if he could have it. The artist said, sure, for a thousand dollars. The other customer was taken aback, asking why he wanted a thousand dollars for something he did in just a few minutes. The artist replied, it’s taken me my entire life to develop the skills to make that in just a few minutes. What seems simple to some is definitely not to others. Keep up the great work Dave and I hope you’re blessed with a fantastic Independence Day!
Thanks Jeffery. I always appreciate the thought ya put in your comments. And that is 100% a true statement. And having the tools to do the work. Until recently I had to use equipment at work so I am blessed to have that ability now. Hope you have a great 4th of July too my brother 😎👊🤘🤘
I am not certain, but I believe that is the Evo 4. The smallest in the lineup. First one was the largest, while the Evo 3 was the next largest. Thanks for sharing.
Awesome video brother. The way you make technical talk easy to understand and interesting is a gift. Have a great week, Happy 4th 🇺🇸 and see you next Sunday
I’ve never held an Evo, but I think Kev/Lefty did a disassembly video of his to put in Skiffs if you’re really curious about the bearings. I also don’t know which one it is. The Evos are not really a style of knife I’m into (they were when I initially got interested in knives). Thanks, Satu, and congrats to your winner 😂😂When I saw the red five I got excited, but I was the other red five (diamond) 😂😂
Seems like Kev puts Skiffs in almost everything. They are the best bearings so I can definitely see why. Maybe next time bro. And if it’s not claimed there is still a chance of a redraw. Have a good 4th of July bro 😎👊🤘🤘
Nice to see you work on something I actually own. I learned a lot about the knife because I haven't taken it apart yet. I do like to hear about the process. Makes perfect sense to me. Funny, I totally forgot aboit you're GAW. I guess it's been a busy week. Have to do mine as well today, but I'm too lazy to do it without the computer 🤣.
Thanks Ken. For whatever reason I hate using the computer for gaw’s. Probably because so many other people use em. Cards seemed like more fun. Hope you have a great 4th bro
Have a great Independence Day SatuDave. It's my Wife's birthday. Some sweet knives Brother. Learned something new, awesome. Great fix Brother. Congratulations Mary
Happy 4th. You get a heat treat oven, get the highest temp 2200 /2400deg probably, so many types of blade steel and mostly all get treated at different temps.
Happy early 4th! Here in Thailand it is the one holiday I really miss because there is really no way to celebrate it properly. Looking forward to seeing the progress on the collab and interesting to see you diagnose the EVO issues. If the detent ball was in the TI then when/if it breaks how does the common person replace it? I have had several break and the manufacture sent an extra lock plate and easy to fix. Congrats to Mary! See you on the other side and keep the shiny side up!
Thanks Mark. Hope you enjoy your 4th even if you are away from the states bro. I will try to start recording more stuff like this when the work is here. Hopefully I will be able to show/explain it on a different repair. 😎👊🤘🤘
I hope you have a great Independence Day Dave!! Thanks for showing the work on the Evo, always awesome to learn, even tho I couldn’t make that part. lol. As soon as u brought that blade to the camera, that botched dent ramp screamed at me! I was trying to tell you thru the screen 😂. I am betting they either purposely or by accident hit that detent hole, and caused that problem. I think that is the Evo 3.0, the 4 is the smallest. I have 1,2,3, and T. The 3.0 did come with loose bearings, skiff made captured ones for it tho. The 1.0 is a beast, it’s big. I should send it to you to check it out, I think you would like the size.
Thanks bro👊🤘🤘. Appreciate all your insight on the Evo’s. Sounds like I missed out on the 1.0 yeah was funny how I missed it when I first opened it up. But I was focused on that detent hole. But it was glaring when I look at the blade now. Hope you have a great 4th of July too my friend 👊😎🤘🤘
Thanks bro. Well the owner was aware so no biggie I suppose. Glad I was able to improve it but was hoping to make it perfect. Hope you have a great 4th of July too 😎👊🤘🤘
Happy 4th to you and Fam.. God Bless the USA!! I definitely learned from you .. I could not reproduce what you diud, but I have a better understanding of what you did to correct it to the extent that yu could.
Thanks Mr Botz. If the detent was not in a hardened lock bar insert I would definitely have tried to go that way. Those crack very easily and I don’t have the machine to make a new one right now I hope I did will be good for the owner. Hope you have a great 4th bro😎👊🤘🤘
Good job on the evo! Mine still has the scratch on the blade that I showed you. Still not confident that I can sabd it out and make it look good. Well crap! i thought i commented on the giveaway.
Did I miss ya bro. I will make it up to you on the next one. Sometimes it doesn’t show all the comments. Did my best to double check but I definitely could have missed ya. Hope you have a great 4th bro😎👊🤘🤘
WOW!! Dave that knife youre desigining is amazing bro.... GIVEAWAY?? Did I miss a Giveaway? The Detent Hole appeared to have a "Ramp" if you will.. Is that not Natural?
Yeah I hide it in the video last week. Around the 30min mark or so. The repair was just sent in. The owner was trying to modify it and then sent it in to fix. Thanks for checking in bro and hope you have a great 4th of July
Maybe its not worth it or cost Effective to heat treat small batches or single knives thats why you can't find anyone to do it i don't know that's my thought great video man 👍
Yeah I figured it would cost more but ultimately it would be a superior service. I would gladly pay for that. Don’t think I am alone in that 🤷♂️. Always appreciate you checking in man. Hope you have a great 4th😎👊🤘🤘
Hope things are going good brother. You don’t see a lot of full length back spacer on the collab your doing? Don’t see them very often these days, might be cool.

@@5doorno, not really. Lol. It came with 2 sets of bearings at least. Lol. Also I traded for the knife and the guy had put the skiff replacement multi row bearings in it. So I have 3 sets of bearings for it. I may be missing a ball or 2 though.
@@CNYKnifeNutI bet but I'd still love to own one of those bad boys from the custom division. Too much money for me though unless I sell most of my collection . Lol

I replaced a stop pin with a larger one before to get rid of lash and reprofiled the tip a bit so the tip stayed buried in the handle. Good video

Looks like someone touched the detent hole with a dremel to ramp it to ‘improve’ the action, but gave it lash instead

Wonder if that evo had a stiff detent and someone tried to fix it? Great video love the learning!

Yeah I’m not sure what the motivation for starting the mod was but my guess is he wanted a detent ramp

There aren’t many scenarios where that’s a great outcome.
