Fr i have taken partial differential equations classes and i dont think i ever had to learn this one
It’s just the sum of all of the sides. Just a shortcut. You’ve definitely used a form of it poppyface
@@shrankai7285 It’s so simple you don’t need a formula
@@Thymed yeah
Haha, except one can argue that we don’t need geometry teachers then. I’d rather say though it is a niche reasons, it is important to know it if you wish to manufacture a box for storage, you need to know how much material is required to make a box of a certain dimension.
As for the formula itself, I don’t like it because it isn’t pleasing to look at, I’d rather have someone tell me to add up the area of all of the sides, and I would eventually come up with that formula because I know some properties of rectangular prisms.

@@socialoutcast2048 yes and no. Every curriculum is different and they like to regurgitate the same concepts over and over. When I say not that long ago I mean last school year (so basically a few months ago). I understood the concepts when they were being taught and I got straight A's but I haven't used them since so my brains just deleted them. I'm not studying pre-calc or anything either.
"Who needs to know this?"
Exactly
May be an engineer or mathematician but even that you have it written down somewhere
@@Pinkielover an architect
No offense but he's totally wrong, rectangular prisms are used in alot of stuff so obviously it's important to know how to calculate it's surface area. Yea the only difference is a person who's never gonna use that shouldn't learn it but i guess education system doesn't understand that
EXACTLY. I have NEVER heard of these before this fu#€ing video, I DON'T NEED THIS INFORMATION
Basically that quadratic formula is commonly known as shri-dharaachaarya formula who evaluated this formula as an Indian mathematician💯🔥🙏
Rectangular prism is just a fancy name for cuboid
Ikr.... In my head I thought cuboid and reading rectangular prism instead I got confused for a sec but then realised that it's the same
No, a rectangular prism is a cuboid where all the faces are rectangles. A cuboid is any 3d shape where the faces simply need to be quadrilateral, not necessarily rectangular.
