  • The reason the diagnostic and statistically manual (DSM) is not a bible rests with the question of validity and reliability. Many of the diagnoses listed in the DSM are reliable, meaning that two doctors that see the same patient would check the same boxes for the diagnostic criteria and come to the same diagnostic conclusion (major depressive disorder for example). However, this does not necessarily make the diagnosis scientifically valid. The topic of today’s discussion is how do we prove that a mental health disorder is valid and scientifically proven as well as reliable.

Like some of the other comments, this question is completely unrelated to the video above, though it was an interesting discussion of psychiatric diagnoses, which even to a layperson appear to be a hugely contentious and confusing issue. Do you have any thoughts on the most effective treatments for eating disorders, particularly chronic ones? It's kind of a specialty area of psychiatry, but I've been watching your videos for a while now, and you have a lot of thoughtful things to say on a variety of topics. Particularly with the rise of what seems to be the corporate eating disorder industrial complex very interested in promoting inpatient treatment, with dubious results, do you have any insights on the best treatments for eating disorders?

I have been questionioning this regarding stimulants, does a person WITHOUT adhd feel the brain calming down ? Does this happen also with "normal" brains ? I can even get a bit sleepy if the dose is too high. I ask this because even though i went to two different doctors (Europe here) and both gave me ADHD - innatentive there are those days i question myself.
Let me tell you as a female 37 it is very refreshing to hear / see someone young and not formal explaining so well such complex topics.

ADHD can be generally be confirmed via FMRI and genetic testing.

Hi there- have you by chance taken any coursework in mathematical statistics? If so, did your course take a measure theoretic approach, or was it more based on multivariable calculus?

Hello Dr. Rossi, i would appriciate you doing a video about how to get libido back for patients hwo have the bipolar symptom under control and now want to date and have a sexual life foe the first time. Again like many people i have taken SSRI on and off for years, iso i don't know if the low libido is a residual symptom from SSRIor Bipolar itself, i guess it's impossible to find that out.
What i do want to know is how to get my libido back, i heard wellbutrin is good, Vraylar ecc. But t would be interesting to hear what you consider valid strategies! Thank you

Dear doc, my question this time has nothing to do with all this . Can a person with narcissistic patology get better ? Are there grades ? Could it be a kind of brain damage ?

Dr. Rossi, is an ADHD diagnosis valid if it is issued by a functional neurologist? 🔰

A “functional neurologist” is typically a chiropractor. Such an individual is not qualified to make any medical diagnosis, let alone a psychiatric diagnosis.
