I feel just as bad for Taylor as I do for Theismann. The way Taylor frantically called the trainers immediately and then put his hands to his head in despair. He saw how devastating the injury was and knew he did that. Opponents or not, that ain’t an easy thing to carry with you.

Anyone calling Lawrence Taylor a gorilla or any other derogatory name is both a complete ass and a coward. Anyone who knows professional football history knows that Taylor was devastated after he injured Theisman. You can see him immediately calling for the medical staff and grabbing his own helmet in despair. He saw Theisman at the hospital after the game and the two stayed friends forever after, including to this day. I am often amazed at the "courage" of computer tough guys who will talk smack from the safety of their keyboard or phone. It's kind of like the tough guy that sticks up his middle finger at you as he drives away in his car. Again, any one who knows football also knows one other thing...the computer tough guy I am referring to below would never have the nerve to say anything like this to Lawrence Taylor's face, or for that fact, to Joe Theisman's face. Because if Theisman heard you say that about Taylor, he would probably show you how well his leg healed up. One last thing, Lawrence Taylor's talent changed the way the linebacker position was played forever in the NFL. What claim to fame do you have?

Ouch... I honestly can't look at that snap, I cover it with my hands everytime, but I love watching this clip because how Lawrence Taylor reacts to what he accidentally did was really really wholesome. He waves for help more frantically than Theisman's own teammates. The way he put his hands on his head really shows his character, that hurting another human being really put him in great distress.

Watching this play has given me a new respect for players like Lawrence Taylor. Not only is he a student of the game, but he is an incredible person. The fact that he and Theismann still remain buds today just goes to show what a good person Lawrence Taylor is, and that he didn't mean to injure Joe in any way. Although I never like to see a player get injured, it is always good to see good sportsmanship on the field.

Yes. I remember LT's immediate reaction just as much as the actual break. In fact even more so because one could only see the reverse angle after a few minutes but LT was obviously screaming for help right away. I was a huge Giants defense fan back in the day, but this is a defensive play by them that I wish had never existed.

I remember seeing this live.... Had this injury not happened, Theisman would have played another 3 years maybe... He was a great QB for his size. Won a championship... That giant defense was throughout the mid 80's to the early 90's was feared! i remember that game like it was yesterday. LT was so awesome, but he knows it was just a game. When he knew Theismann's leg was seriously injured, he waved the Redskins' team doctor over. He had a worried look on his face. He grabbed his own helmet, as if saying "Oh my God!! What did i do????" He was full of compassion. That is an awesome human being! His worst moment in his career, which he wishes he could take back. It was fully unintentional. He made a great play, but Joe's leg got in the way.

But, its the nature of the beast, football while a brutal sport, is the greatest game on earth, the working together, the wins the losses, if i would have been injured like this, i would be upset no question but i would never regret playing. I just hope they make this great sport more safe.

He cut it up field and my teammate dove for the tackle and slid into me while my leg was planted. It’s a blessing the way science has advanced as far as it has. I was able to start walking a little a month after. Now, I’m planning on playing again next year for my senior season.

i feel bad for both of them and everytime i watch this i cant help but cry some, a game you love (for both of them) and it's instantly something you're scared of ever doing again because of what happened, it sucks too because they were both legends in football, with the speed LT tackled him there was nothing either of them could do to stop the leg from breaking :( imagine if this didnt happen, imagine how both of them would've kept playing and getting even more legendary then they were, i dont think anyone would ever be able to compete with them ever if this never happened, the things we love the most tend to be the things that do the most damage to us!
