I played football for over 10 years and saw many broken bones, and i am so blessed to have never sustained an injury that severe. But, its the nature of the beast, football while a brutal sport, is the greatest game on earth, the working together, the wins the losses, if i would have been injured like this, i would be upset no question but i would never regret playing. I just hope they make this great sport more safe.
Was watching the game when it happened, but never really payed attention to the reviews while they were showing it. And this is the first time I ever checked it out on youTube. WOW! It truly was gruesome, and Joe was a real gamer, so sad. Glad he's still able to walk ... and he sure is a great football commentator!
33 years to the very day, hard to watch. Smith’s career probably isn’t over but his season is finished. Never been a Redskin fan, but Smith’s a good guy and pretty humble. You can only hope that Alex can see the field again, if he wants to, and that he can do whatever he wants after football. Prayers to Alex Smith.
When this happened I was 12 and my parents let me stay up to watch the game because the Redskins were on Monday Night Football. It was shocking but at the time I didn't realize that was it. I thought Joe would recover and play football again. Watching those Theismann teams each Sunday were some of the best times of my life growing up.

I’m a lifelong Redskins fan, and JUST LAST NIGHT we were talking about Theismann’s injury after seeing a rough one during a CFB game. Some of my friends had never seen the Theismann footage, so we didn’t watch it, but I mentioned how tough of a scene it is. I was at work so couldn’t watch the Skins game today, but I just can’t believe I was talking about this last night. What the hell.

August 17th 2018 I broke my leg in 4 places playing football. I was playing OLB and they ran a toss to my side and i set the contain. He cut it up field and my teammate dove for the tackle and slid into me while my leg was planted. It’s a blessing the way science has advanced as far as it has. I was able to start walking a little a month after. Now, I’m planning on playing again next year for my senior season.
i feel bad for both of them and everytime i watch this i cant help but cry some, a game you love (for both of them) and it's instantly something you're scared of ever doing again because of what happened, it sucks too because they were both legends in football, with the speed LT tackled him there was nothing either of them could do to stop the leg from breaking :( imagine if this didnt happen, imagine how both of them would've kept playing and getting even more legendary then they were, i dont think anyone would ever be able to compete with them ever if this never happened, the things we love the most tend to be the things that do the most damage to us!

Joe Theismann - Nov. 18, 1985
Alex Smith - Nov. 18, 2018
-Both breaks happened in Washington
-Both games ended 23-21
-Both broke right tibia and fibula
-Both quarterbacks were tackled by the only three-time defensive played of the year winners, JJ Watt and Lawrence Taylor
-Both happened near the 40 yard line
-Both quarterbacks were playing against red, white, and blue jerseys
-Joe Theismann was at the game when Alex Smith broke his leg
-Theismann’s Pro Bowl left tackle, Joe Jacoby, wasn’t on the field due to injury

Yes. Well stated. Many of us use the phrase "Poor LT" without apology. The leg will heal but the horror of what LT accidentally did will remain with him forever. Respect to both LT and JT for having stellar careers.
Still gives me chills and I remember it live on tv. Ugh
I don't care how many times I see this, it's still the most horrific sports injury I have ever seen
Agree!
I would say 2nd, have you seen Clint Malarchuck, he was playing Ice Hockey and his neck got slit with one of the Ice skate's blade, and he lost 1/3 of his blood, luckily he survived he got around 40-60 stiches on his neck, but this is still HORRIFYING
Idk, I think Ware’s is worse. With Theismann you couldn’t see the bone. Ware’s you could see the cleanly snapped bone.
I’ve seen much worse in basketball a Guys shin snapped and it was sticking out of his leg
Anderson's coming back in a year said his Doctor!
I have been a cowboy fan my entire life....but have so much respect for LT. He was a passionate man, and the hit on Theisman devastated LT. He was a class act and the best defensive player to ever play... even to this day as far as I am concerned. This coming from a die hard cowboy fan that lives 20 minutes from Giant stadium!! 😂🤣
Always gives me chills
Who's here cause of Alex Smith injury?
I am
I am
Fuck you
Who's Alex Smith?
no wonder Bob is scared
Whose here to compare Daks injury?
me
me
What's a Dak? I got here because of a kitten video.
R.I.P. Alex Smith
@Aidan Canavan r/whooosh
Joe spoke at our conference this morning in Miami…he’s a great motivator!
Who else is here from Alex Smith leg injury?
Came straight here after Alex Smith snapped his leg live on tv
One of the strangest things about this event is the mutual roasting and appreciation these guys displayed afterwards. Great sportsmanship.
I saw this live.
The worst thing in sports I ever saw.
Clint malarchuk my friend.
+mustaineforpresident 2016 nah man malarchuk played another game after and was fine but theisman never played another game and Taylor was reportedly crying after the game because he ended his friends career
hector prado
I agree with you 100% on that. I thought he meant scariest injury to witness. By that I mean if you watched both clips anyone would think malarchuk was going to die right there on the ice.
+hector prado Malarchuk's injury was scarier and more life-threatening. Although each injury was probably equally disgusting and horrific.
+George Vreeland Hill I saw this live, and was sick. But the kid on Louisville b-ball breaking his leg, that was rough. And Malarchuk as well.
Who else thought the narrarator sounded like the white mother for the movie blindside
Awsomeguy 10897 this is from the blindside
Yeah that's weird it's almost identical
It also looks like the opening scene from blind side as well. weird
That's because it is from _The Blind Side_ .
this is from blindside
LT is one of the goats of the nfl. He was genuinely concerned for Joe and was the best defensive player of all time
Nickelodeon is just one incident away from getting alot of angry parent complaints if this happens again.
I'm here after the Tom Segura injury
This, Kevin Ware, and Clint malarchuk worst sports injuries ever as of right now
anderson silva
at least kevin came back and is dunking again
Gary Buust.
Eric LeGrand
Paul George
I saw this as a kid and was shocked and then saw it again to Alex Smith . I pray that this doesn't end his career like it did for Joe . 33 years to the day .
Wow. Three warnings from RUclips that this is heavy content. They were not wrong.
Who’s here after daks injury 🙏🏾😢
Who else is here from Alex Smith? 33 years to the day
I am now 41 years old and I remember watching this Monday night game in the floor at my uncles house like it was yesterday, before I wrote this post I looked on the calendar and this November 18 will mark 34 years to the day since this happened.
I remember watching this game and I did not realize the severity of the injury until i watched the replay in slow motion.
jaboody dubs
"You fucker!"
BUB5 when Lawrence Taylor sacked u into retirement
I’m here after McGregor injury
I’m a lifelong Redskins fan, and JUST LAST NIGHT we were talking about Theismann’s injury after seeing a rough one during a CFB game. Some of my friends had never seen the Theismann footage, so we didn’t watch it, but I mentioned how tough of a scene it is. I was at work so couldn’t watch the Skins game today, but I just can’t believe I was talking about this last night. What the hell.
I was actually watching this game live as it happened. And OMFG when it did!
Who's here after the Alex Smith injury?.... :(
Fuck you
Alex Smith broke his leg on Nov 18 2018... Joe Theisman broke his leg on Nov 18 1985
Alex Smith broke his leg on the 40 yard line... Joe Theisman broke his leg on the 40 yard line
Involved by three-time Defensive Player of the Year J.J. Watt... Involved by three-time Defensive Player of the Year Lawrence Taylor
Texans beat the Redskins 23-21... Redskins beat the Gaints 23-21
Texans defensive coordinator was Romeo Crennel... Giants special teams coach was Romeo Crennel
Anyone else here too after seeing the Alex Smith injury?
Fuck you
this was the worst sports injury ever
I'd say Clint Malarchuk was worst
Ware’s is by far the worst.
Lmao every time. This replay never gets old
I'll never forget this, nor LT's immediate reaction of horror and concern.
here because of alex smith
the narration is awful
It's from the movie "The Blind Side"
It's funny because she won an academy award for this movie! LOL
Joseph Boro Her accent isn’t convincing. Just talk normal. Who gives a shit if they are in Tennessee and she doesn’t have a thick country drawl? Like that will hurt anyone’s suspension of disbelief. I hate when actors try to show off, it’s just distracting.
We are already dead Fam it’s a clip from a movie
She just woke up
I'm truly shaken by this famous, grid iron injury to, Joe Theismann who we all knw was and still is remembered as a, gr8t player of his time. :)
Never forget that game and play . I heard the leg breaking through the TV set .. eek !
Who's here because of Gordon Hayward? Lol
Kyle P I hate you! 😂😂😂😂😂 #youreright
Dead Meme laugh out loud
damn i got chills
I’m here after the Joe Burrow injury Bc it reminded me of this 😩 it also happened in this same stadium 🏟
I remember watching this live.
