"PAMS Radio Jingles Series 34A Power Of Love" "KQWB 1550 AM Fargo, North Dakota"
"KQWB's PD must have decided to turn North Dakota's frosty weather climate into a positive with these Series 34 jingles. The tagline "Winter Wonderland" is used heavily throughout as well the the brilliant idea of describing the icy, frigid cold temperature as "The Warm Sound" or "Winter Warm."
Radio was theater of the mind and with these imaging lines, listeners could view their cold-weather state as one huge Winter Wonderland, with activities like skiing, ice fishing, ice skating, sleigh rides, and building snowmen. "Winter Warm" brings to mind relaxing at home in front of the fireplace, hot chocolate or coffee, enjoying being with friends and family in a ski lodge. "The Warm Sound" was an excellent way to connect all these things to KQWB; the station you listen to as you're going to these activities, while you're doing them or as you're going home to your warm home.
An interesting thing happens at the end of this starting at the 7:07 mark: we hear PAMS vocalist Lucy Crane singing one jingle cut over and over. I have no idea of that was at the request of KQWB's program director or if this was included on the tape to show how PAMS might do multiple vocal takes to get the best reading of a line. The line is "with the wonder of winter." I get the feeling there may have been an issue with making the word "winter" understandable- the way the syllables have to be stretched and held to make it fit the music bed, that one word ends up sounding a bit indecipherable by the time you finish with it. Just my opinion, but it also shows just how demanding recording these jingles could often be- to get it just right, 100%. At any rate, Lucy sings the line with such emotion and warmth, it all sounds good to me."

So tonight, I found out there is a tab for comments titled "Responses with new replies" and I'm finding an entire planet of responses I never knew were here! So you might be getting a few very late follow-ups. Yes, the cut at 7:50 is absolutely beautiful. Lucy Crane is the vocalist and she was relatively new to PAMS at the time. I honestly think they had her record this same cut a few times to get the best enunciation on the word "winter" at the end, and this one at 7:50 nails it. This particular cut feels like a warm sunset and is just an amazing piece of music that takes, what, all of 15 seconds? And packs such a punch! I always find myself rewinding a few times to hear this one again and again.
