Just found your videos! Amazing stuff I am located in Ontario Canada and watching these videos has inspired me to go lake trout fishing this winter. We always go for Walleye in Lake Nipissing but this year we are going to try something new!
looks like a lot of fun especially when you have the correct equipment
It’s a good time but still not Muskies!
The first thing I noticed about this reel is its weight ruclips.net/user/postUgkxM68VkfsQhHaabDce1IwOCXuvumcpbZ_k . I wouldn't say it was uncomfortable but it was a little heavier than other similarly sized reels. However, that didn't deter my enjoyment of how smooth this reel is. I spooled it with 20lb. Tuf-Line XP and it's perfect for what I use it for. I have it paired with an 8'6" Medium/Fast Okuma SST Salmon/Steelhead rod. The combination is perfect for casting and even drifting. I used the reel all day and didn't experience any arm or hand fatigue except when fighting a few fish! The bail is solid and feels strong when engaging by reeling and manually closing the bail by hand. The large rubber handle grip is very comfortable. It's got a powerful drag, silky smooth reeling, and feels very comfortable in the hands. I recommend it!
Awesome stuff dude. That spot is so cool right next to the tree line.
Wow those fish are beautiful! The dark colors 🔥
Thanks for watching!
Wow, you did it again!
Heck yea! Loving the laker footage! One day, I'll make it over to Canada for those hoggs!
It’s a good time!
really love the clarity on your screen. how come there's no clutter and purple arc and dots on your screen??
made sure my software version is up to date. i've turned off the sonar for the ice transducer already and messed around with the contrast/sensitivity settings. whats your after market pole called for the transducer?? i really like it over the stock handle/stick humminbird designed.
I get some of the purple dots now and then. I run my contrast at 20 sensitivity 20. Pole is made by arc lab
One would say you are dialed! Another awesome laker vid!
Thanks for watching!
Great stuff as always man! Still got open water here in PA but probably not for long!
Hope you get out on the ice soon!
@dougwegnerfishing Thanks brother! We usually only get a month of ice around here or 2 if we're lucky.
Looks like fun bite!
It’s a good time!
Persistence mode...learned something new. Thanks ! I'm hoping to get the Mega Live before open water fishing starts up
It works great for ice fishing open water it’s hard because the boat is always moving.
@@dougwegnerfishing yeah I've been watching a bunch of videos on it... your's was the first I saw the persistence mode feature
Good idea, tolerable 5 second ads,.Well done content! Fun to see a pro forget to reset drag. Larry54
No adds in the membership videos.
Curious, do you worry about freezing the fishes eyeballs holding them out of the water for that long in the cold weather
In the super cold stuff yes days that are below zero you have to be fast in temps in the teens and 20s you have more time.
Do you have a video of your preferred rod setup? Line type and weight and such? New to the trout world and looking to setup a rod.
Rod: 45” Thorne brothers pro graphite
Line: 10 pound suffix 131 g core braid
Leader: 15# Seguar floro
Love your videos Doug. Learning a lot. Headed to Crawfords camp in march for our first ever lake trout trip. Can I ask what size are the treble hooks you use to change out?
I think they are a #8 might be a #6 tho
Awesome video brother,I've been chasing them all season with no luck, may I ask the "general"area of that lake..pm if possible and keep the bids coming
Do you search the water column much or do you primarily target the suspended lake trout? Also it looks like you prefer to set up on the break and not the top or bottom, does that change throughout the ice season
I do sometimes but always favor high. They can see 30-40’ from what I’ve seen. Yes I like the break 40-50’ is my favorite year round on ice.
@@dougwegnerfishing I'll sit on the break on my next trip to rowan a day or two, my last trip I primarily set up 30 ft from the bottom with good success but alot of trout were negative.
I agree there is nothing like trout and I live close to Quinte.
They are awesome!
Do you think it’s important to tie on vs using a snap. I’ve heard it’s significantly more effective on a tube but always thought a jigging rap would benefit from more freedom.
It might add a little bit of action but it also adds to the hardware and profile to the bait. If anything I would suggest a loop knot if you want the range of freedom over a snap. For tubes I like a polmar knot or any knot that has the line going threw the line tie twice.
How did you pick that spot?
doug! show us some more tweaks on the settings! loving the current settings you have on now.
Contrast 20
Sensitivity 20
Persistence Low
@@dougwegnerfishing what cone are you using??
Just found your channel a week ago and binged all your lake trout ice fishing content. Deadly stuff man! What kind of transducer pole do you have? I just picked up the mega live and don’t like the pole it comes with
This one is made by arc lab
Nice
I’ve been trying to catch my first laker but been skunked every time
Is your lake that you fish are they numbers game or can I find numbers like you on my home lake as well
This lake is very big and has a lot of trout
What’s your sonar?
Humminbird mega live ice kit on a helix 9
Hi. What name lake?
WHAT NAME LAKE???
If you didn’t know this is considered poor etiquette in fishing … there are plenty of fisheries around . Find some and see where you like best 😊
