Bridgedale Socks - the process of production

Working for Bridgedale in Northern Ireland in May 2012 we created three films, this one describes the process of production. The pieces to camera were set up and shot in only a couple of hours, the rest we picked up whilst shooting the other two videos.

Used to always buy Bridgedale socks because they are decent quality, I like reasonably heavy duty socks where the same knit/weave also runs up the ankle part which makes work boots more comfortable to wear. They also don't slide down your feet when you wear wellies. They were the only socks I ever bought once I discovered them.
However, suddenly they became so damned expensive over night I looked elsewhere and tried various other makes but settled with JCB socks. But after about 2 years JCB changed the knit so that the foot section was reasonably heavy duty but the ankle section was really thin and ribbed and they were complete shit, same price though. I have been on the look out now for 2 months as I need new socks. I have bought 3 different types from Amazon and sent them back as they are not the same sock I used to buy. Unfortunately I think I may have to go back to Bridgedale and be ripped off but at least I'll have a decent load off socks for a few months. 🙄

Only sock i will use such a high quality and really do perform extremely well.

I received a free pair of bridgedale trail light socks with my new hiking boots today and after checking out your video and the quality controls I was very excited to unwrap my new socks, only to find the quality is rubbish. Turning the socks inside out I found cotton maybe 3 inches long coming from the sock and still attached. There were many other smaller thread and lots of lose threads to. Now I know these were free but they still carry the bridgedale name, I feel really disappointed and let down. I'm planning a through hike next year and have no faith in this product now.

Andy - I do not know this company and is my first time to learn that they exist
However if you look at any sock ( circular machine knitted )
there are basically 2 types of machines which make various types of socks
mono cilinder and double cilinder
in just about all mono machines , they have a cutting disc , when the yarn knittied is removed from cycle (for pattern or change ) this disc cuts a 'tail' which remains on inside of the sock - you maybe noticed that if you put on these tails , hard enough you will get a yarn in your hand - return to look on outside and you will notice you have just removed one course of that pattern colour
hope you do not pull on tails on inside
