To be fair, I always kind of laugh at Wan's death. Young Wan: I'll be the bridge to the world! I will bring peace! *Hard cut to Wan on his death bed* Old Wan: OOOOOOOHHHHH GOD!
The most unintentionally funniest avatar scene since the earth benders found out that there was dirt under them and the moon returning to it’s natural state.
From what it looks like and the dialogue, it seems Raava either goes along with Wan as he reincarnates into his next body and life, or Raava just goes to Wan's next incarnation as they are born.
The Avatar is reincarnated. Raava just guides the cycle. And they're not her "hosts" as she doesn't control them, they just represent her. That's literally what being an Avatar means; representing a deity/divine power.
RoshiA_ uh no they are a host to Raava by definition. If I have a tapeworm in my body, I am that tapeworm’s host... that doesn’t the tapeworm is controlling me
You know what's actually tragic about the second season? That for all the spirits and spirit world, it lacked actual spirituality. Aang's visits to the spirit world actually had purpose and taught him something, and the angry ocean spirit was a true power that gave chills. What they did here was kinda like the Force and midichlorians but a thousand times worse. The dark avatar was just comic-book ridiculous, Ozai felt actually way more evil and threatening. The whole thing just lacked atmosphere and Korra acts like a six-year-old instead of sixteen.
agreed! I never understood why korra seems to lack spirituality so much when aang was literally a monk... rewatching AtlA it really felt like spirituality is like the 5th element, i mean he even gets a brief teacher for it (guru patik + kinda the monks and other avatars too) Since korra was snubbed out of her avatars journey and lacked spirtuality, why didnt they make that her whole jouney? but no. i am utterly flabbergasted about these 3 things in LoK: 1) Dark Avatar as Kaiju battles 2) aang giving her back her bending in S1 not even hiding how mary sue-ish korra is 3) writing a character that kinda has all she needs (3 elements at first, then air bending instead etc) but never teaching her what she really, REALLY needed: spirituality. Its sad, bc sometimes, you get a rare glimps of her beeing an (real) avatar like aang was. Like when the air benders come back and she calms that guy down at the bridge. That was actually good. But its just burried under all this (sry) BS ...
Honestly you can tell they butchered the symbolism when they made Vaatu male when it's associated with feminine, while yang is associated with masculine yet is a girl. Not to mention making one PURE EVIL!
@@darko-man8549 nah they didnt, ravva says something along the lines of "even if vattu kills me ill still live inside him and vise versa" and in the final battle korra pulls ravva out of vattu
Really swapping the genders would've done nothing for the plot. The real war crime was Unalaq unironically refering to himself as the dark avatar and still going for it.
@@OMGSAMCOPSEY It would have worked some of it, since they could actively emphasize it is the destructive side of the Yin-Yang but not having it actually be malicous. Unalaq was unsalvageable though.
@@BlackfangDragon But without that line you could empathise with him. If he said "im going to become the new avatar and bring true balance" his goals make more sense and as an audience we can see why he would bond with evil flag.
I'm pissed because I feel so bad for the next avatar because they'll only have her to talk to and ask for help and ughhhh. All the freaking avatars from before are just gone because of this nut-brain
@@frenchfry55 actually they won't even have korra, iirc it is revealed in one of the korra books that the link between avatars has been permanently severed
I’m glad I’m not the only one who didn’t like the origin of the avatar story. I loved what we got from the original and Easter philosophy rather than Korea’s western version. Love these sarcastic summaries.
Hoodie Ninja Yeah. The Avatar state and the presentation of the reincarnation cycle was what was needed for the story; but adding in this origin story of the first Avatar kinda ruins the magic of it for me.
to be fair to the "dark avatar" concept. it was hastily established how the avatar was created but the concept would work with another human/spirit combo... it's still dumb for sure. and the one part that actually bothers me most of all is the fact that he calls it a "dark avatar" all but literally saying "I'm evil" when no one in history if they decided to do this would say that they were evil. because no one thinks they're the villain of their story
Exactly. Unalaq could easily been more of a grey villain (perhaps more so, if Vaatu wasn't the lazy concept of evil). The avatar's meant to be the bridge between the spirit and human worlds, however most (including Korra) mainly focus on the human-side. Unalaq could be the hero of his own story, by installing a new lineage of pro-spirit avatars.
feel the same way. The idea of the Yin side of spirits doing what Yang did sounds pretty cool. It's just a shame that it had to be with the most boring, petty villian in the franchise. And ofc the Kaiju fight was a bit much. If someone like Zaheer or even Amon did this it'd have such a better impact. But I think people are more disappointed at the "sever the connections" part than the actual Dark Avatar meme and the latter is just caught in the crossfire. A big part of the avatar and one of the coolest concepts everytime it comes up, gone.
I think the dark avatar concept could of worked if they delved into what that darkness meant. Vaatu is described as the spirit of chaos after all, what if our dark avatar was trying to stop the oppression that order can bring by using chaos, similarly to zaheer.
I know how to fix kite boy and lady ! The spirit of the mind: Raava the spirit of conscious mind, reason, civilized and Vaatu the unconsciousness mind, The beast, instinct. The reason why raava hold vaatu back is because is if the unconscious takes over so will the violent part of the mind and would explain vaatus weird making spirits pissed thing. Hopefully the writer of the third sequel will see this and retcon the kite spirit bullshit. I can hope dog dammit!
They butchered it the moment they tried to make them yin and yang and light and dark, both exist in harmony. This...isn't harmony. Just one forcing itself upon the other.
They already did yin and yang with the moon spirit fish back in book one. And this time it’s PURE good and evil. Can’t have complexity here! That’d be too hard to write!
BlackfangDragon exactly. Raava holding back vaatu would make more sense if they were the spirits of the mind. Since vaatu being physiological terms the beast and raava the super ego would be more better narratively make more sense then spirits of harmony since it one beating the other up isn’t harmony.
Sarcastic Chorus thanks :3 I have been writing a fanfic of a white lotus infiltrating the equalists. There I have the equalist Originally be an anti triad group until it got corrupted by Amon to make against benders in general because you would think some/all the healers in the hospitals are water benders. (I say healer because I don’t remember anyone in LoK saying doctor.)
To be fair, they did touch on that again in Season 4, where Korra was trying to reestablish the connection, but she's interrupted by spirit children before she can do so.
I don't get why this is such a big bugbear to a lot of people. Those past lives died a long time ago, reincarnated into the current Avatar, and all that was destroyed were echoes kept around through the union between Avatar and Raava.
@@Carabas72 it's the loss of all that wisdom and experience that gets me. Like, in ATLA we see Aang learn important lessons from the past Avatars, and even the significance of his climactic choice in the final season is framed as him standing with his principles against generations of wisdom. It's akin to burning a library. It's not so much loss of life that is the tragedy, but the death of knowledge.
@@Carabas72 *Because they did it as a reason to not have Aang and the other avatars on the show and voice them.* The other avatars were all fan favorites, not a lot of people liked Korra, and everyone definitely hated season 2 and what they did to the spirit world.

So let's get rid of this in the name of good writing." Roku and the others are not real, they are fictional characters, so they do not have any actual knowledge. They're just a very cheap plot device to have exposition happen with the gigantic drawback that the exposition people are in the Avatar's head and always available for advice, making genre savvy watchers wonder why the Avatar doesn't talk to them all the time. Or why Korra or Aang doesn't have Roku teach them lavabending for that matter.
It would be more interesting if Unalaq really believed that he would be a better Avatar. For me the sentenc "A dark Avatar" would be better if replaced with "I will be the a best Avatar. An Avatar that you couldn't be".
Hello there pissed over the line dark avatar? They said dark avatar because vatu isn’t rava, rava is the avatar we know but vartu is something else u can’t just say another avatar. So he went with dark avatar. He’s a villain ofc he would say dark avatar

It's like that with Bái Jīng and Hēi Yào in the original Screechers Wild. Though in the English dub they actually made Bái Jīng into a girl under the name "Snowygirl" (like really the dub couldn't come up with a more creative name.)
Varric is more CMOT Dibbler. The whole Bolin movie star subplot is a ripoff of Moving Pictures, including the actress being named Ginger and it ending with a kaiju attack and the cute animal fake-dying. Except, ya know, the book is good.
This season broke any faith I had in this series. It completely destroyed me. Season 3 was a nice comeback but it never felt like I should take this seriously because I realized that this show was never taking itself seriously. Never.
Hold up. It's explained that a piece of Vaatu lives inside of Raava when he dies, then 10,000 years later he comes back. So, if the Avatar cycle goes on for 10,000 more years, will Vaatu grow out of the Avatar? Man Korra really screwed up
There is always going to be a big, cosmic event about Raava and Vaatu every 10.000 years, no matter what the Avatar does to Vaatu. Locking it up didn't work. Destroying it completely isn't possible.
The only reason locking him up didn’t work was because some insane spirit lover decided to take advantage of his naive niece and tricked her into opening the portals. Had none of that happened Vaatu would’ve stayed imprisoned with nothing else happening.
I actually like the idea of a dark Avatar, however I don't like the execution. I was hoping for a battle between two people, both bending all four elements, but instead we got a Kaiju battle...
Honestly, I want the next series to keep the dark avatar to be a thing and have two avatars bring balence like Yin and Yang. Korra made it so blantently Western until theboring Kaiju battle hit so balence it out and making things have more eastern influeces-like it was suppose to- would make things better in the future.
@@cameoshadowness7757 You realize that's very boring? Yin and yang has been done to death. I rather have an Avatar who is not good and the world had to stop him or her. Now i'll never happene because the Korra retcon has made the Avatar the spirit of light. Literally amplified jesus.
@@Drake00000010 You do realize Yin and Yang represent humanity far better than the whole Bullshit of Korra being the embodiment of all good right? Also having a dark avatar will lead to an avatar that people have to fight because even though they'll have a bit of good in them, they will have a lot of 'evil' in them as well. It also gives the dark avatar something other than comidicly stupid evil for the sake of it. There is good in everyone just like there is bad in everyone. Plus, like I said before, Avatar was suppose to have more of an Eastern influence than a western one which is why adding Raava and Vatu put a HUGE sour taste in so many people's mouths. It was something superwestern thrown in something that was super Eastern and clashed heavily. Making an avatar all evil like you want will do nothing but make the SAME EXACT MISTAKE KORRA DID but in the opposite direction and with even less sense given what Korra gave us. The Yin and Yang would be a retcon but at least it will be a retcon that makes sense and doesn't make a complete unessasary 180 to what was established before.
So I watched/read a bunch of Bryke interviews (the creators) after season 2 came out because I was so upset they cut her connection to the past avatars off and wanted to know why and I found one of them saying that they cut her connection because they disliked how Aang had to rely so heavily on Roku for guidance instead of the people around him and they wanted to give Korra more of a challenge. Now this reasoning for years has really bothered me because you didn’t have to ruin the lore you set up for your own show to give Korra a challenge. It’s just lazy writing. Sure take those characters away FORCING Korra not the use them. That’s lazy, give her a REASON not to use her past lives.... Also isn’t the point of the avatars being able to talk to their past lives is for guidance?? Why would they suddenly dislike a fundamental element of your own creation? I’ll try to find the link for y’all if I can.
Did Avatar's own writers forget that the last arc of the original series was LITERALLY Aang deciding NOT to listen to the other Avatars and finding his own answer, because their wisdom was flawed?
But Korra wasn't even consulting the previous avatar's about anything. Aang gave her a flashback to Yakon in s1, showed up at the end to give her back her bending and then peaced out. The whole point of S2 was how korra was shit with her spirituality so instead of listening to the people around her she runs off with evil uncle no one likes so why not have her consult her past lives, learn the importance of spirituality not abandoning her mentors because she's a bit annoyed with them
Also, correct me if I'm wrong... but isn't the Avatar State the combination of all the past lives? And the creators just... erased that? Also, I'm not counting the Avatar State as 'Raava energy', I'm using what the original show established and honestly makes more sense.
They could have made her spiritual ineptitude (and by extension her lack of help from the past lives) necessary through a choice she had to make. Like when Aang didn't master the Avatar state because he'd have to let Katara go.
@@JayAreAitch Well, in my eyes a fanfic writer whit a lot of passion and is willing to improve for his creation is better than a talented writer that gives up after a success .
In my opinion, Season 2 is what ruined Korra. I know that's a common thought, but what I mean is that it's the ONLY really bad season. Season 1 was pretty good, Season 3 was honestly pretty amazing and so was Season 4, but Season 2 just fucks up WAY too much of the lore and canon that it's ridiculous. Honestly, what would have been different if the Avatar cycle wasn't broken? Raava even says that she was ALWAYS inside Korra, so why did they all go away?!

Wow, I almost forgot how insane the whole leaving the spirit portals open decision was. Sure it's a good ideal, but Korra just forced that on the whole world, and just after the spirits attacked. The first reaction people would have to unknown spirits is likely fear, which iirc makes spirits hostile.

I too have thought that the whole 'Ripping Rava from Korra' was a bad decision. Like! Did that just destroy the spirits of the past Avatars!? Also making Mako a noun! [Pulling a Mako: Dating 2 different women and ruining the relationship with them both so bad that they date each other.] [TO CLARIFY] I wouldn't have been upset by Korra and Asami getting together if it was built up properly. Their ship was never built up in the series (unless you're that type of person that counts the really vague moments in season 4). It felt like it came out of nowhere.
Do you know the tragedy of mako the feared it's the story that Bryke won't tell you because they didn't think about that crap which turns his character a joke Mako's father (Insert name here) is working under a group of secret police who are assigned by Zuko's sucessor to prevent Ozai's followers plan to free the fire nation from monarchy by invade the fire nation, snatching it from the fire lord. The leader of this group was over ambitious in his belief that he can lead the fire nation and controlled his followers to manipulate the fire lord misusing his loyalty and reputation for the throne (The leader is cold-blooded and calculated) Mako's father disagrees to the leader of secret police's idea and challenges him to an agni kai in which he fails leading him being burnt alive. Witnessing this horror in the distance a young Mako (age 10) develops the fear of fire even though he's a firebender. 2 years later the secret police captures the fire nation and kills the fire lord leads to a huge revolt where the fire nation's citizens were against these atrocities and the leader declares all the rebellions as traitors to silence the people and to ensure the dominance one of the victims were mako's mother who gave birth to Bolin shortly after her death which leads to the brothers being orphans homeless I doubt whether it works but it's way better than "My parents were murdered by a firebender" cliche. I didn't care about the TLOK story line to write this backstory of the tragedy of Mako. It's just a synopsis. I literally wrote a better backstory than the writers ironic Creativity is a great opportunity story tellers need to use but some writers consider it unnatural
1milionand6times honestly, I believe that the dragon prince is the true successor to avatar. even though the worlds they take place in are completely different, the dragon prince truly captures the spirit of avatar, something that korra never did. Korra may be avatar’s sequel, but The Dragon Prince is its successor.
1milionand6times I agree that korra is a great show (besides season two ) and I enjoyed it. But watching korra again, it lacks what made avatar avatar. Sure it continues the story, but imo, not avatar’s legacy.

I disagree with one point: The fanfiction didn't start there, it started on the very first episode, when Korra jumps into frame for the first time wielding three elements at the age of 5, screaming "I'm the Avatar, DEAL WITH IT!".
Wow, I love the complete bastardization of Avatar lore and the glaring clash between Eastern and Western style mythology and culture. These aren't the same people who wrote the original series right?

Death is a powerful tool in writing... so why did they keep Iroh, the character everyone is attached to, alive? I mean... like you said he would have wanted it plus he is a man at peace who would accept death.... and with him being there... why aren't any old air monks and nuns there... surely they must have been spiritual enough to make connections with the spirits and the spirit world at least once. Th whole use of Iroh could have been used in an episode or two where Korra travels with Zuko to improve her bending and to get to know the new fire nation (driving the world building, character development, exploration and emotional attachment of fans all in one) as she, as the avatar, should know people of the world and their struggles, cultures and joys. In one sense they could allow Zuko to give her some heart felt advice like Iroh did which would drive the fans mad with love and with other sense they could have recreated the Leaves From The Vine story where Zuko pays his respects to his Uncle on his death anniversary with Korra there to support him. This could have been part of the plot of season two, also called spirits, when Korra would have lost her Bending ability (apart from Air) as she would be out and about to regain her bending and her self.... After all... she had the ability to bend the 3 elements from the age of 3... weird but ok if you use it well... Like the comics of Last Airbender, after the war, showed, removing ones bening is like removing part of the person... Korra would have literally lost a big part of her self. So what is better plot than spiritual journey where she becomes stronger as a person, creates meaningful attachment to the fans and explores the world to be a better avatar. What more... She can only air bend now! She would litterally mirror the air nomad style of life by a world journey and spiritual learning! but instead... Iroh is in the spirit world, She gained her bending because wizard did it.... and we have a dark avatar Godzilla fight.
the avatar is not someone that reincarnate because it is the only one , the whole concept of the avatar is that there is reincarnation in this world ; iroh seems to have been condamned to a eternity of memory of he's life, he did realy BAD things , and reedemed himself, but i guess it was not enought .
B B people say stuff like that too according to their beliefs but we have no way of knowing. Maybe there is an afterlife in avatar universe, maybe there isn’t, maybe souls reincarnate but just like us people they have no way of knowing what comes after death. At least that what makes sense to me

Just love how they retconned the Avatar being powered through the combined energies (which is stated) from countless generations of former masters to the energy from an oversized celestial throwrug…or better yet tapeworm (a more fitting description)
The ATLA's community was never fighting themseles for everything new that was poping up on the other hand, almost every aspects of LoK is debatable. What a wonderful work....
Jokes on you, I never took this show seriously, so O was immune to the ridiculousness that is the dark avatar. (ngl, I was a bit salty, that they acted like it was wrong to close the spirit portal after all the evidence we’ve seen to the contrary)
Please keep in mind these are my subjective views and everyone is welcome to have differing opinions. Let's discuss this in a way Uncle Iroh would be proud of. I would have personally preferred it if the origin of the first avatar should have been rewritten so Wan ends up with both Raava and Vaatu within them. To represent balance. I feel instead of making them literally flat representations of good and evil. It would be more engaging to have them be closer representatives of believe system of yin and yang. Not saying the writers of LoK didn't do this to some extent. But to me, I felt they could habe taken it further. Korra even literally called Vaatu the incarnation of pure evil. Instead of the two could be just being opposing forces of god and evil. You could have them be the embodiment of complementary, interconnected, and interdependent ideas. Order and chaos; tradition and advancement; conformity and individuality. Not one of these pairing but all these pairs. They could play with the idea that Raava and Vaatu can be blights on the world if either of them became too strong. Similar to how any believe can become harmful when taken to the extreme, regardless of how well intentioned. Imagine if instead of imprisoning Vaatu, Wan fused with them as well as Raava. Working as the mediator between the two. Conflict could arrive with how the avatars handle the duality of the two within themselfs. Perhaps some avatars misinterpret Vaatu as evil trying to suppress them, to their own detriment. Whilst others avatars embraces them. I feel this would further empower the Avatar as the balancing force in the universe, and as the bridge between the humans and the spirits.
I wouldn’t say it’s a synonym for African decolonization. As the South Pole is historically made up of colonist from the North Pole. Closer to the American Revolution in that it’s colonists that have have culturally split from there Mother Nation and now want full independence.
The whole thing was pointless anyway since all Unalaq had to do was take Korra to the North Pole and open the second portal. This whole invasion of the south had absolutely nothing to do with him releasing Vaatu.
oh I meant the releasing the spirits into the Natural world without any plan or idea of what would happen is a synonym for the decolonization of African. I thought it was a good idea, but because Korra did it on a whim and not with a plan caused chaos. Yeah the North's Invasion of the south has many synonyms because that is something that happens a lot IRL.
If i can be honest, I like the second half (aka post begginings) of season 2. Yes the love triangle will always be not the best (though i'll give credit that it wasn't really a focus and wasnt that bad for love triangle standards), the kiaju battle did come out of nowhere (but i kinda think that's part of the standard Avatar "Deus Ex Machina" trop that ends almost every plot televised), and the dark avatar does sound a little "fanfictiony" (though i like it and argue "fanfictiony" doesn't = bad, plus Unaloq wasn't a good bad guy and making him basically a tool for vattu in this way gave him a reason to still take him seriously as a threat), but i saw this second half of the season as an overall win when in the first half of the season Korra had no progression from season 1, Unaloq was our only bad guy and he was bad, Korra was in a disfunctional relationship and constantly making stupid decisions, and besides Verrick the only other thing in that half of the season (that being Tenzin's family vacation) I thought wasn't that well done. I thought season 2 post begginings was where it was done well (or at least well enough with flaws)
Bruh the turtle gave and took away bending. But the dragons and rest taught them how to use them. Plus the lion turtles left and stopped giving them the elements after Wan become the Avatar
I must literally be the only one who likes the Avatar’s origin story and don’t mind the retcon all too much. I believe you still have to be in tune with the elements to bend them, don’t really think the turtles just give the ability around willy-nilly.
I like Avatar Wan mostly because of Steven Yeun. That guy is almost always the highlight of every show he's in (The Walking Dead, Trollhunters/3Below, Stretch Armstrong and the Flex Fighters, Tuca & Bertie).
I fucking hate most dream sequences in TV Shows, but if season 3 had started with Korra waking up from a Coma and it turned out EVERYTHING had been a wild dream I think every single person who is a fan of ATLAS/LOK would have rejoiced.
Dark Avatar existing makes sense since the show is all about balance and what not. It’s just the execution in the final episodes of this concept were bad... The whole giant thing just didn’t hit 😪
Here’s the thing, the only two episodes of korra that I have ever watched in my childhood was when I was in third grade, and I just sat in front the TV and watched the first avatar origin. Thats the thing about young childhood, you have a Watch list of what you want to watch and you have a list of shows you do not want to watch, but you can still somehow find yourself just sitting in front of the tv soaking in whatever is playing. I did that a lot. Apparently it was a new episode too.
Ever since I watched the last episode I had a theory that Korra, Bolin and Mako all died and that's why Kyia specifically brought them to the spirit water rather than just healing them normally
The owl always made me laugh. “Argh, humans are the worst, they suck, I hate them so much! They only abuse my knowledge!” Bro, your foxes STOLE the knowledge FROM HUMANS. He’s a such a moron. He loves books and yet is totally behind destroying the only species with the opposable thumbs to write them. 👍🏻 Great plan Jackass.
This season had so much potential it just that the execution was so poor on a lighter note tho season 3 is actually really good l would honestly say it almost as good as og avatar.
uggghhhhh i hate how they just glossed over the fact that ALL THE FCKING AVATARS ARE GONE they're just like "oh yeah that happened" LIKE NO DONT IGNORE THAT THATS TERRIBLE WHY WOULD YOU DO THAT, AND THEN WHY WOULD YOU PLAY IT DOWN
I’m watching Korra for the first time and just finished season 2. Probably unpopular opinion here, but I did enjoy the season. I just don’t understand why Jenora is able to become the literal manifestation of a spirit bomb to help win the battle at the end. Also now that Vatu is gone that means that Korra will now be able to become giant combined version and fix all of her problems.
If you have an emergency, call 9 Wan Wan
Shame the next avatar won’t be able to do that
@Princess Azula you nearly stopped the avatar cycle!
Dark Leome Unfortunately he’s too problematic to help you
The avatar knocks on your door and uses the avatar state to set off a tactical nuke.
To be fair, I always kind of laugh at Wan's death.
Young Wan: I'll be the bridge to the world! I will bring peace!
*Hard cut to Wan on his death bed*
Old Wan: OOOOOOOHHHHH GOD!
Was that a Jojo's reference?
Yeah, you've got to love how the screen play frames all those hack buffs amounting to absolutely nothing.
Lol ikr
I’m off to destroy Arizona
The most unintentionally funniest avatar scene since the earth benders found out that there was dirt under them and the moon returning to it’s natural state.
Makes you wonder if the Avatar isn't just someone who gets to be reincarnated, but just the spirit Raava jumping into a different human host.
I preferred the idea that the Avatar was just the spirit of the planet or some shit.
RoshiA_ uh no they are a host to Raava by definition. If I have a tapeworm in my body, I am that tapeworm’s host... that doesn’t the tapeworm is controlling me
So Supreme System Lord Raava?
You know what's actually tragic about the second season? That for all the spirits and spirit world, it lacked actual spirituality. Aang's visits to the spirit world actually had purpose and taught him something, and the angry ocean spirit was a true power that gave chills. What they did here was kinda like the Force and midichlorians but a thousand times worse. The dark avatar was just comic-book ridiculous, Ozai felt actually way more evil and threatening. The whole thing just lacked atmosphere and Korra acts like a six-year-old instead of sixteen.
agreed! I never understood why korra seems to lack spirituality so much when aang was literally a monk... rewatching AtlA it really felt like spirituality is like the 5th element, i mean he even gets a brief teacher for it (guru patik + kinda the monks and other avatars too)
Since korra was snubbed out of her avatars journey and lacked spirtuality, why didnt they make that her whole jouney?
but no.
i am utterly flabbergasted about these 3 things in LoK: 1) Dark Avatar as Kaiju battles 2) aang giving her back her bending in S1 not even hiding how mary sue-ish korra is 3) writing a character that kinda has all she needs (3 elements at first, then air bending instead etc) but never teaching her what she really, REALLY needed: spirituality.
Its sad, bc sometimes, you get a rare glimps of her beeing an (real) avatar like aang was. Like when the air benders come back and she calms that guy down at the bridge. That was actually good. But its just burried under all this (sry) BS ...
AGREED
Honestly you can tell they butchered the symbolism when they made Vaatu male when it's associated with feminine, while yang is associated with masculine yet is a girl. Not to mention making one PURE EVIL!
yeah they completely missed the idea purpose of having a little of ying in yang and vice versa

I’m glad I’m not the only one who didn’t like the origin of the avatar story. I loved what we got from the original and Easter philosophy rather than Korea’s western version. Love these sarcastic summaries.
Korra's version is not even western it's just dumb trying to take something from east and something from west.
I kinda thought that it really didn’t need one at all, tbh.
Hoodie Ninja Yeah. The Avatar state and the presentation of the reincarnation cycle was what was needed for the story; but adding in this origin story of the first Avatar kinda ruins the magic of it for me.
I didn’t like it either. I wish the avatar’s origins stayed mysterious
to be fair to the "dark avatar" concept. it was hastily established how the avatar was created but the concept would work with another human/spirit combo... it's still dumb for sure. and the one part that actually bothers me most of all is the fact that he calls it a "dark avatar" all but literally saying "I'm evil" when no one in history if they decided to do this would say that they were evil. because no one thinks they're the villain of their story
There had to be at least one person of all of history to know they're bad yet continue on their ways.
feel the same way.
It would be like hitler calling himself "The Great Exterminator" lmfao even if that was his goal you dont put that shit in your title.
That would have been so much better
I really dislike the whole... past lives getting destroyed. I was really hoping that they would fix that somehow.

Whereas the writers were more like "we made a terrible mistake with this whole past lives business, because the way we set this up, there's pretty much nothing the Avatar can't get out of with a chat with the past Avatar club. So let's get rid of this in the name of good writing."
Roku and the others are not real, they are fictional characters, so they do not have any actual knowledge.
And here you go, a random human is better than the writers. No irony, your idea is way better
Hello there pissed over the line dark avatar? They said dark avatar because vatu isn’t rava, rava is the avatar we know but vartu is something else u can’t just say another avatar. So he went with dark avatar. He’s a villain ofc he would say dark avatar

This season broke any faith I had in this series. It completely destroyed me. Season 3 was a nice comeback but it never felt like I should take this seriously because I realized that this show was never taking itself seriously. Never.
Agreed!
I mostly agree with this comment, but I loved season 3
Still a better fan fiction than The Last Airbender movie
Compared to the last Airbender movie, it’s a masterpiece.
“I’m off to destroy Arizona” 😂
I actually like the idea of a dark Avatar, however I don't like the execution. I was hoping for a battle between two people, both bending all four elements, but instead we got a Kaiju battle...
Same. It was the only way IMO to top Sozin's comet. Then they fucked it up.
It's a terrible idea. Avatar being good inheritable just makes it boring and shit. It removes the depth of humanity and complexity.
@@cameoshadowness7757 You realize that's very boring? Yin and yang has been done to death. I rather have an Avatar who is not good and the world had to stop him or her. Now i'll never happene because the Korra retcon has made the Avatar the spirit of light. Literally amplified jesus.
@@Drake00000010
You do realize Yin and Yang represent humanity far better than the whole Bullshit of Korra being the embodiment of all good right?
The whole point of S2 was how korra was shit with her spirituality so instead of listening to the people around her she runs off with evil uncle no one likes so why not have her consult her past lives, learn the importance of spirituality not abandoning her mentors because she's a bit annoyed with them
Keep in mind that the head writer of season 1&2 of ATLA was never part of LOK
Also, correct me if I'm wrong... but isn't the Avatar State the combination of all the past lives? And the creators just... erased that?
Also, I'm not counting the Avatar State as 'Raava energy', I'm using what the original show established and honestly makes more sense.
They could have made her spiritual ineptitude (and by extension her lack of help from the past lives) necessary through a choice she had to make. Like when Aang didn't master the Avatar state because he'd have to let Katara go.

Do you know the tragedy of mako the feared it's the story that Bryke won't tell you because they didn't think about that crap which turns his character a joke
Mako's father (Insert name here) is working under a group of secret police who are assigned by Zuko's sucessor to prevent Ozai's followers plan to free the fire nation from monarchy by invade the fire nation, snatching it from the fire lord. The leader of this group was over ambitious in his belief that he can lead the fire nation and controlled his followers to manipulate the fire lord misusing his loyalty and reputation for the throne (The leader is cold-blooded and calculated)
Mako's father disagrees to the leader of secret police's idea and challenges him to an agni kai in which he fails leading him being burnt alive. Witnessing this horror in the distance a young Mako (age 10) develops the fear of fire even though he's a firebender.
2 years later the secret police captures the fire nation and kills the fire lord leads to a huge revolt where the fire nation's citizens were against these atrocities and the leader declares all the rebellions as traitors to silence the people and to ensure the dominance one of the victims were mako's mother who gave birth to Bolin shortly after her death which leads to the brothers being orphans homeless
I doubt whether it works but it's way better than "My parents were murdered by a firebender" cliche.

I remember liking this season quite a bit, but all I could remember were The Wan episodes and the creepy twins. I LOVED the girl twin and you made me realize why: I was just thirsty for Mai that I subconsciously settled for a diet coke bootleg.
I watched this when it aired and I don't even remember most of these events, so that shows the impact it left lol.
Same creators minus all the talented writers
@@kindbrute4640 Aaron Ehasz left for Korra
@@buggymah Sad day in human history. I want so very badly for it to be good. I love the Avatar universe
Yeah, can we just agree that the entire legend of Korra series is not canon ?
Edit : 28 minutes later and I already got 7 likes, this show realy is terrible.
WITHOUT A SECOND THOUGHT
RETCON, AUTHORS! YOU KNOW YOU NEED IT! TURF WARS WAS A FAILED SAVING THROW!
Nope. The show is great and has earned the right to be canon.
I like most of the show. It's only the stuff in Season 2 that shouldn't exist.
It is a giant fan fiction. The characters are annoying, the retconning terrible and the stories (mostly) lazy.
Yes, same with the comics.
If it's not written by Aaron Ehasz then why would I consider it to be linked to ATLA?
A kaiju battle in avatar could work as a methaphor as 2 forces of nature clashing, but this LoK so of course was a Bay- esque explosionfest with no real direction, just like khora as a carather.
How is it Bayesque? I could follow what was going on perfectly.
Whorra is the worst avatar
@@Carabas72 Bay esque explosion fest, that mean loud in you face and all over the place, just like the kaiju battle and khora as a carather, the animation team still ressemble avatar for most part.

I remember me and my siblings dropping the series after season 2. Never even knew the show continued or what happened afterwards for years because I didn't care.
trust me you didn't miss much
You quit just before it got as good as the original show, or better, depending on what you like in stories.
It did get better but in my opinion none of the good stuff even comes close to out weighting the bad stuff.
@@Carabas72 Indeed. It depends on whether you like cool fights better.
I don't see much else 😕.

If he is going to review a cartoon for example spongebob
First comes the Sarcastic review, in sarcastic review he makes alot of jokes, doesn't take to serious, making some reference
than comes the Actual review, in the Actual review he will tell in detail what he thinks of the seasons, talking about character designe, personality, the story, soundtrack, the writing and Character development
This season: Forget the lore of The Last Airbender, and give yourself to Jesus.
Lily Orchard flashbacks XD
Also they got the Ying YANG traits and colors BACKWARDS
Let’s recon everything we made in the original show and destroy the mystical feel of our show and world. What a great thing to do.😒☹️ (Guess this is what happens when the original writer from ATLA didn’t do this show)
I fr didn't want to watch this season so I watched this video instead, thank you. It saved me from suffering every two seconds
By definition an avatar is “a manifestation of a deity or released soul in bodily form on earth.” So potentially any spirit can create an avatar. If anything Raava is a lot like Vishnu honestly.
Not really.
She just,...
Well, she just inserted herself. She didn't manifest, per se.
@@alyseleem2692 maybe only God tier spirits can become avatars
@@hueyfreeman6262 Again, nobody " became" anything, Huey. She stuffed herself inside his body, used the portal to make glue, and voilà!
For a spirit to " create" an Avatar means they'd have to be reborn as a person, not merge with one.
@@alyseleem2692 if you don't already know the avatar was originally supposed to be the incarnation of the spirit of earth in human form more and more avatar fans are starting to find that out nowadays
@@hueyfreeman6262 Precisely! Would've preferred that.
I don't think Iroh should have been in the spirit world he would have wanted to be with his son
B B you are just assuming afterlife exists and they go to heaven or whatever and be together again. We have no way of knowing that lol
the avatar is not someone that reincarnate because it is the only one , the whole concept of the avatar is that there is reincarnation in this world ; iroh seems to have been condamned to a eternity of memory of he's life, he did realy BAD things , and reedemed himself, but i guess it was not enought .
@@ipek6851 Nah I'm just going off the time he said "My beloved Lu Ten I will see you again"
B B people say stuff like that too according to their beliefs but we have no way of knowing. Maybe there is an afterlife in avatar universe, maybe there isn’t, maybe souls reincarnate but just like us people they have no way of knowing what comes after death. At least that what makes sense to me

I just realized what would have been cool is if all the avatars showed up as a shield to Korra and just made her uncle whoever is name weep from sheer fear of their stature
Just love how they retconned the Avatar being powered through the combined energies (which is stated) from countless generations of former masters to the energy from an oversized celestial throwrug…or better yet tapeworm (a more fitting description)
It looks vaguely like a Giardia parasite.
I could never enjoy the show after the past avatars were destroyed.
I love the part where vaatu says "off to destroy arizona". I live in phoenix, he succeded.
7:34 “Sibi Blackbriar” You don’t understand how happy you made me by saying that

This sounded accidentally racist. Dude look evil as heck, but the sentence without visuals sounds so funny🤣
I'd forgotten how... terrible is everything with Korra. Starting with HER.
LoK is The Last Jedi of the Avatar universe.
10:55 The fact that people say that it's ok because aang did the same thing with koi fish generally get into my nerves
Korra season 2 ending is a synonym for the European decolonization of Africa. A good idea, but because of poor planning turns into a disaster.
I wouldn’t say it’s a synonym for African decolonization. As the South Pole is historically made up of colonist from the North Pole. Closer to the American Revolution in that it’s colonists that have have culturally split from there Mother Nation and now want full independence.
You could seriously call it anything from France invading Mexico to World wars.
Yeah me too. Also liked the second half of the season, found the first half kinda boring imo.
I hate the Turtle’s handing out Bending.
Takes away from what makes Bending great.
Bruh the turtle gave and took away bending. But the dragons and rest taught them how to use them. Plus the lion turtles left and stopped giving them the elements after Wan become the Avatar
Wow 17 minuets ago, that's the earliest I have ever been
This literally like sokka explaining the legend of korra 😂 (him being a sarcastic guy)
"That's what the First Avatar looks like? I thought it was like a spirit or whatever before Aang."
I must literally be the only one who likes the Avatar’s origin story and don’t mind the retcon all too much. I believe you still have to be in tune with the elements to bend them, don’t really think the turtles just give the ability around willy-nilly.
SO good to see someone who have my exact same opinion on this FUCKING SEASON.......man I hate season 2 so goddamn much.
Black Clover fan spotted!
Bigger fan of the manga, but I tune in when I hear there’s a good episode or scene
varrick is Literally the best part of season 2, for all the seasons i care waaaay more for the side cast than the main characters- a shame, really
I wanted KAIJU battle in Avatar by kaiju i mean giant monster fight, not whatever this was
2 weird spirit humans one is Cringy avatar and the other is lesbian water lady having sexual contact
Thats what i saw atleats
They make kaiju movies for everything. Like there's even one where an asian wrestler becomes a giant to wrestle a monster to death.
Cannot wait for next week's review!
“Sibbi Blackbriar” bro that reference made me so happy. Hopefully the next one comes soon since the new consoles are out
the only thing i remember from season 2 is the giant man
Dark Avatar existing makes sense since the show is all about balance and what not.
Ever since I watched the last episode I had a theory that Korra, Bolin and Mako all died and that's why Kyia specifically brought them to the spirit water rather than just healing them normally
deadass korra would've been a million times better if this season didn't exist
The owl always made me laugh.
“Argh, humans are the worst, they suck, I hate them so much! They only abuse my knowledge!”
Bro, your foxes STOLE the knowledge FROM HUMANS. He’s a such a moron. He loves books and yet is totally behind destroying the only species with the opposable thumbs to write them. 👍🏻 Great plan Jackass.
Vaatu is the good guy right, he was going to wipe this terrible show and season out, saving us from it.
charlotte's scream to this day will always horrify me with how funny it is
This season had so much potential it just that the execution was so poor on a lighter note tho season 3 is actually really good l would honestly say it almost as good as og avatar.
uggghhhhh i hate how they just glossed over the fact that ALL THE FCKING AVATARS ARE GONE
they're just like "oh yeah that happened"
LIKE NO
DONT IGNORE THAT
THATS TERRIBLE
WHY WOULD YOU DO THAT, AND THEN WHY WOULD YOU PLAY IT DOWN
This season was so bad literally the only two things I remembered from it were the giant kaiju battle, and how terrible it was.
The entirety of Korra's writing is literally just "fuck the original's spirituality"
I think those “clouds” were supposed to be something like the air scooters as air is represented as clouds when used
But aang invented the air scooter
Who remembers when it was established that bending came from learning from animals not spirit turtle lions
