  • First of all I'd like to thank YUKI @uncookedrice for taking the time to bring this project to life! I really do appreciate the effort you put in to make this timeline for me! I love it!
For the first time in 13 years I decided that I wanted to celebrate the day I uploaded my first video. I can't remember when I first started shuffling but this day marked my first upload.
My shuffle journey has been an interesting one to say the least. I've had numerous styles and it has changed and developed a lot over time.
There are some styles that you all really enjoyed, and there might be some styles that leaves you wondering what in the world was he thinking?
Each style was appropriate for it's time!
Shuffling sure has changed over time and I commend the bold individuals that do what they can to stand out. It takes a certain level of bravery to do what you do to level up and add a new layer to this dance and hey, shuffling politics isn't really my thing. Who are we to tell people how to dance when the core reason to why we do this is for self expression of how we hear and feel the music.
    2007
My journey started with TMS, I honestly didn't think I was good enough to get in but I'm glad I had the opportunity to join. Being part of that shuffle family really helped me excel as there were many shufflers in the group to look up to. Each of them had a little bit of something different to offer that made them shine and I simply just wanted it all.
    2008
It was at this moment that I decided that I wanted to have a crack at running my own show. I wanted my own team so I formed Bass Captives of which comprised of a couple of close mates. We simply just wanted a team more local to us which made it easier for us to link up to shoot shuffle videos.
    2010-2012
Shuffling then died down, it was no longer a craze, people lost interest in this dance and they went on to pursue other things. I lost my touch with shuffling during this time and didn't practice as much at all, I knew I could still do it.
    2013-2014
Muzzing was the next best thing, I caved a little and decided to stomp my feet and flail my arms around for a bit of time.
    2015
BOOM, I decided that I didn't want to muzz anymore, I'm going to go back to shuffling. Even if it meant that it was just me, without a team. But wait, I don't have to do this alone. I formed BC WW, sparked a global interest with many applicants trying out to join the team. We then accepted the applicants that seemed worthy of joining and dismissed those who weren't good enough. This was my call.
    2016
Now that I have a team we were able to spark some interest again here in Melbourne which saw more meet ups and bc outings.
    2017-2018
I sort of lost sight of what was really important to me and forgot why I was doing this, i lost motivation for this dance I didn't have a team once more.
If the person that is leading the team loses interest, it isnt hard to see why I didn't have a team.
    2019
This was the year that I discovered myself all over again and felt like I could REALLY shuffle. I unlocked a part of me that I lost somewhere along the way and it was at this point, my mindset and heart space changed. I was ready to bring on the next year with a clear idea of how i wanted to do this.
It was also at this point I realised that Shuffling was my life.
    2020
I decided that I wanted to bring BC back to life, with no longer needing to show the world that we were worldwide, I changed the name back to just Bass Captives.
We no longer hold try outs because there is no competitive nature in the team, I simply just ask our members to be the best dancers that they can be and to contribute what they can to the shuffling community.
I now believe that everyone should be given the equal chance and opportunity to be part of the team regardless of skill level as we place our importance on good character.
I've finally been able to put my ego aside to share what I know about shuffling. I was really stingy with my shuffle knowledge
I also finally created a move to call my own. (SUN RUN)
I have done a fair amount during this time of shuffling and I have the energy to do a lot more. I simply just want to see how far I can take this, before I call it a day.
Last of all, I wanted to thank all my friends who have supported me along the way, you all played some part that contributes to where and who I am now.
As a person and as a dancer.
THANK YOU ALL, WITH LOVE, FRANCIS
