  • How to cook the BEST Jansson's Temptation; well, my version at least which deviates a little from the original as I don't eat fish! That's the beauty of this dish though as it is very versatile.
    All measurements / weights covered in the video but at a glance you will need;
    -potatoes -white onions -butter -breadcrumbs -sprats OR an alternative (I use bacon) -breadcrumbs -parmesan (optional) -full fat milk -double cream -seasoning

    You are DEFINITELY not going to want to miss how to make this dish, based on a Nigella recipe!

    That looks amazing, agree with the swap of bacon for sprats! You have given Paulie Morgan some new ideas!

      C’mon Paul - look after Carole please! Yes, sprats would make me very upset 🤣

    Hi Mr Robins,
    Haven’t been able to go back to Sweden this year (for some reason) so I decided to prepare a Swedish Christmas dinner here for the 24th. Janssons is a traditional part of the “Julbord” meal, but they didnt sell any at Ikea - I contemplated making it from scratch, but decided it would be too much work. Besides, nobody else in the house liked anchovies. Your recipe came too late!
    Feliz Año Nuevo
    Harry

      Oh what a shame! I can’t eat fish and rather than not try this recipe at all (because it sounded amazing) I thought about an alternative ingredient. The winter months are long so perhaps don’t give up!

    Really interesting video. It lead me to investigate more and now I know that anjovis translates to sprat rather than anchovy. I was going to substitute smoked salmon as you used bacon but other recipes suggest chopped pickled herrings, which I love so something to think about. Thanks

      Yes who knew there was such a difference between sprays and anchovies?! Anything pickled would work for sure! Bacon? Abomination. But worked for me! X

      Urgh - sprats not sprays 🤣

    I think a lot of people would like it more with bacon, as many don’t like ansjovis, even here in Sweden. I love the traditional, though!!

      As someone who can’t eat fish / seafood, this is a great alternative for me

    Abomination is correct - you have to call it something else if you are making it with bacon. Call it Robins' Temptation...

      Hmmm I don't remember reading that in a rule book :)
