I miss that two-headed monster Bautista -Encarnacion we were blessed with for 5-6 years. What made that duo amazing was that we pretty much acquired them for both for nothing, and nobody expected breakout careers like that for either of them, later into their careers and simultaneously. Between 2010-2016 at least one or the other or both were going off each year for a guaranteed 40-50 home runs and 105-120 rbis. Remember 2015 when JB went for 40-114, EE went for 39-111, and Donaldson came in and went for 41-123 himself. In the 8 years since EE went 42-127 in 2016, we’ve had maybe 2 seasons like those..Vlad Guerrero Jr 48-111 & Semien 45-102 both in 2021. Can only look back now and appreciate that era of offensive explosion we got so spoiled by
For his 6th one against Cleveland I was in the section left to the homerun. All I remember is that thing was such a line drive you could hear it screaming coming up and it sounded like a bomb coming off those metal bleachers. Feel very fortunate to be a Jays fan and to see one of his 54 HR that year in person. But yeah I remember it like it was yesterday. A true piss missile hahahah.
One thing I loved about Bautista, was when he hit the ball hard & clean, you knew 99% of the time it was gone. Didn’t have to wait to hear it in the commentators voice, or for no camera switch to the fence angle. What made this even more special, was the often certainty that this 1 swing brought home multiple runs each time. It was like the pavlovs dog reaction because once you saw him crack the ball, you’d immediately be thinking game is a W, or at least taking leads & getting back into any game just like that. When he hit 54 in 2010, it felt like every ball he hit was a home run. Like every ball he hit was going to do damage in some form. On the edge of your seat whenever he stepped up. Miss the heart and passion he brought to every game too, could sense he wanted to win and was putting these seasons together for the sake of winning a title and for the fan base. Same with Encarnacion & Donaldson. I look at the current team, and feel none of that. I feel like I’m watching a bunch of kids goofing around with each other, laid back approaches, no leadership, no substance, no standard or setting examples for the team to feed off of, just no one guy that has that fire and initiative to take on the responsibilities of being “the guy”. You can maybe consider Vlad Guerrero Jr as really being the only guy having what it takes to fill this role, but even still, outside his actual play and stats, I don’t think he has shown he wants to be the leader. I mean, can he even speak the common language fluently yet? This current team is a complete embarrassment in my opinion, especially noticeable when recalling the teams we had just under 10 years ago
Sorry for the rant for anyone that may read, but after multiple disappointing endings upon promising seasons, to a 15 game regression this year when the core is supposed to be in their prime, & a 2-9 close out record including 2 blowouts by worst team in NL just after getting swept by another bad team (Tampa..each game losing by 1 run..1-0, 3-2, 4-3), and no bright spot or reason to think things will improve with this team, just f**kin had it with this group. Don’t know what the f**k happened
Bautista was a monster. It's so bad he was a late bloomer. Been a jay fans since I was a kid. He is definately 1 of my favourites. I never seen a player who could hit a big hit in clutch moments or after a near hit by pitch. Shut out to the 2015 roster as well. 3 players (Josh, Bautista, Edwin) with almost at least 39 home runs :)
Man he had such a vicious swing! Miss seeing him play with the Jays

What a beast
15:36 I think this was the best of the 2010 season.
