  • There's dozens of group homes across WNY, and some can have up to 6 to 12 people living there. That means there needs to be at least 2 or more staff members there at all times. And while the demand for group home settings is up, the number of staff members to work there is not.

Pay a decent wage. i worked in 3 group homes and all 3 paid terrible. 2 are no longer in operation, but one "The WIllie Ross Foundation" the worst one i worked in, is still open. I had to sue them for back pay and for stress.

100 percent and take care of the staff. Do not treat them like trash that can be thrown away.

This job sucks. Very low pay and you feel more like a live in maid. Just cooking and cleaning and sometimes the people that live there complain about the food you make them. Pretty much just sit around bored all day and you have to stay overnight and don't get paid for that. Very terrible position

@Julie Walker these particular residents do get to go to a day program for activities etc. I think I was just so overqualified for the role that it made me quit. I have a bachelor's in social work and just cooking and cleaning does not do it for me. The residents were absolutely bored during quarantine and I worked about 80 hours a week so that I imagine is very hard on any employee

We’re your clients violent? Ours would try to beat up staff daily and were allowed to do so. They knew there were no consequences to their actions.

I have autism spectrum disorders and I hate group homes. If I lived in a group home I'd be the bad client, the one whom no Direct Support Professional, Case Worker, or Interdisciplinary Team wants to work with. I'd cuss out staff, lock staff in a closet or outside the house, spit water at staff, sneeze on staff when I'm sick, rip up my Individualized Support Plan in front of my Interdisciplinary Team and flush it down the toilet, and run away from home to a place where nobody is smart enough to track me down. But I'd never ever live in a group home despite my possible eligibility.

stop working staff into the ground and paying minimum wage in today's world you can't live off that. And fast-food workers get paid more than direct care workers. I love working in group homes what keeps from going back is not mom friendly hours and the pay is livable.

notice how the people who opened the group homes and run them from their nice AC offices, make ALOT of money.

Worng!!!! It about telling the truth and teaching the right ways about disabities. Lots of staff get angry at clinits. When people dont know how to stick up for themselves, the svrew. You van have 5 staff working at any Organization is they taught clients how to work together not to fix their problems all the time. Go home should be a temporary situation to teach properly before they be ready to take care on that own. My name is Robert Van Dyk. This is how I would call my disabilities
