Probably did touch the defense player (which would make it free for anyone to catch), probably didn't touch the ground, but there was probably a clip on that play. Regardless, this play was enormously impactful on NFL history. If you're simply judging the plays by the skill and/or luck in catching the ball, then this being 10 is understandable. However, considering the Dwight Clark catch is number 2, this needs to be higher when factoring in all the intangibles.
literally every person said this should be higher, but they put one handed catches above this? this catch was so important to the steeler franchise, but i guess a one handed catch is greater than this
Nobody was even questioning whether or not Franco Harris caught the ball at the time. Not the refs, not the announcers, not the Raiders. That's because HE CAUGHT IT. That question only came up after it was proven that the ball hit Jack Tatum first, and well after the game was over. The Raiders first excuse failed, so they needed another one. Supposedly there was a rule that if the ball was caught off of a deflection, that it had to hit a defender for the catch to be legal. That was the only thing that the Raiders were arguing (that the ball never hit Tatum). Video clearly shows that the ball deflected off off Tatum's shoulder.
How is this a controversy? I mean that literally. How are there only like 3 recordings of this game? Where are the All-22s from the Raiders and Steelers? Where is the Dolphin's copy? They were the team either of them were playing next week.
The way Fuqua and Franco talk here, so non-committal, the tip probably touched the ground. But to me this was Tatum's fault. All he had to do was bat down the desperation pass from Bradshaw. But instead, as usual, he preferred to blast the receiver and to hell with the ball. I felt bad for Madden, but i enjoyed like hell the pain Tatum must've felt. He was such a dirty player.
I know this was the 70s so modern rules did not exist, but how come nobody talks about how JT hit Frenchy before the ball got there. if it did go steeler to steeler without touching JT it is because there was pass interference on that play
#1 or #2 for sure, it was a very important an unbelivable catch, which boosted the confidence of the Patriots to win SB LI. Besides that it was also deflected by a defense player and two more were jumping to catch the Ball. Edelman vs 3 Falcon Players and he´s the one who caught it. Just an unbelivable play
This play was more luck than skill. Excellent catch by Franco, but he just happened to be in the right place at the right time. Not the best play of all time, and there have probably been more than 10 better catches. -A Steeler Fan.
I was there at this game in 1792 and he DID NOT catch it. It hit the ground. Ravers were ROBBED! Steelers should vacate 2 of the Larry Lombardo Trophies and stripped of their next two #1 draft picks.
I may be a ravens fan, BUT #10?!

They need to set the criteria. Is it ultra-important catches, in terms of the state of the game, or just technically impressive catches?
literally every person said this should be higher, but they put one handed catches above this? this catch was so important to the steeler franchise, but i guess a one handed catch is greater than this
As a steelers fan, I agree with your sarcasm.lol
trev kivela ,about catches not impact
trev kivela right a one handed catch that was pointless for the giants but yet they say it was the best catch ever
titan555 then why is the catch number 2
@@jhonatanm5386 your actually 6 years old dude, the Tyree catch was not pointless for the giants what world are you living in.
Not only was this the greatest catch of all time but it's the greatest play in NFL history. Period. I'm from Cleveland by the way.
I've never seen the full play of this catch
A sign of great things to come for the Pittsburgh Steelers!
1:39 you can clearly see in this freeze frame that he catches the ball at knee-level. I don’t know what all the “controversy” is about.
Everyone, the NBC tape is out there and I suggest you watch it before you comment.
I have no clue what you mean by nbc tape but if you could help me out I’ll gladly check it out
How does the catch by which all others are measured end up at #10?
Cruz Carter had many great catches.
Franco just has quick hands.
saj8 look at the shoulders of Franco..

Lol this at 10 makes this list automatic bs 😂👌🏾💯
Greatest catch EVAR
No, not a chance
I keep looking at this video you can clearly see that he catches the ball out of the air don't know what's wrong with people and raiders fans.
I don't understand how this is no. 10. switch this with lynn swann
This should be #2 because we all know the Obj catch is #1
Not really it didnt matter
How is this a controversy? I mean that literally.
How are there only like 3 recordings of this game? Where are the All-22s from the Raiders and Steelers? Where is the Dolphin's copy? They were the team either of them were playing next week.
Serious question: Who actually comes up with these lists? I actually have no idea.

"the immaculate Deception"
BULL SHIT!!!
I can taste the salt oozing from your body
If it was made now, where would Edelman's SB LI catch be?

Ted Wayne not that important it was like 2nd down 1st down?
#3-5 I’m saying this as a Patriots fan.
Gotta be better than #10
❤
It hit the ground
Mitch Lorkowski - in the footage, the top of the ball is at Franco's knee. Unless the ball is 2 feet long, it's a catch!
no it did not.
Mitch Lorkowski go blue
*BIGGEST FLUKE...EVER*!
kind of like the cowboys winning super bowl XXX.
Too bad that fluke ended up with the steelers winning a superbowl.
TheOneColt what?
Henny Oldman Talking about the immaculate reception.
TheOneColt the immaculate reception didn't lead to a super bowl.
This play was more luck than skill. Excellent catch by Franco, but he just happened to be in the right place at the right time.
Not the best play of all time, and there have probably been more than 10 better catches.
-A Steeler Fan.
BowToWard86 But name one extremely impressive catch that was just as important as this one.
I think this is 2nd best catch of all time
not a catch
titanxbox 555 how come?
Very much a catch.
Frenchie touched it. no way he didnt at least graze the ball.
john Fuqua touched the ball. 2:10 use "," and "." to go back and forth in between plays
Fuqua may have touched it first but it the raider last. Hence the bounce back.
I was there at this game in 1792 and he DID NOT catch it. It hit the ground. Ravers were ROBBED! Steelers should vacate 2 of the Larry Lombardo Trophies and stripped of their next two #1 draft picks.
182Burritos Lolololololololololol this is one of the more genius posts I've seen.
suuuuuuuuure
I bought a used car from Larry Lombardo about ten years ago.
Salty u know he caught it you just wont admit it
OBJ is #1 because the NFL is bias as fuck
FancyRamen 🖕🏽🖕🏿
FancyRamen I'm a redskin fan and I think obj should be 1
obj isn't #1 you whiny bitch boy
FancyRamen No he isn't dipshit.
the raiders' players have no credibility
The RAIDERS were robbed.
Then came The Tuck Game.
The league has it out for The Raiders.
