Oh Olly, I love everything about this project! What a beautiful idea. I will look forward to hearing about your experiences as the year goes on. I’m a reader because of both my mom and my dad, and I’d give anything to be able to read with either one of them now. Have a wonderful time with your dad.
Great idea. I love Dad’s succinct descriptions of his books. He’s a genius. Also, this has inspired me to think back happily on the many books I know my own dad to have read. I’ve not read any of them but maybe I should.
Love this so much, Olly. What a wonderful project for you and your Dad. No surprise I haven’t read any of these but I definitely look forward to seeing how this goes for the two of you. 😊💙
What an absolute treasure of an idea. Who cares what the books are ... to be able and willing to do that with your dad is just the most precious thing in the world xx
What a wonderful idea. I will be looking forward to the videos. Hopefully you can get your Dad to agree to appear on the channel for some of the episodes.
My late father and I read several books together: PG Wodehouse, Aaron Elkins, Dorothy L Sayres, etc. He was a medical examiner in two jurisdictions and we enjoyed "The Mamouth Book of Murder". Many good conversations. This also included my mother and other relatives. 🇺🇸☕❄❄❄❄
That’s so cool that you are doing 12 buddy reads with your dad and that they are his favorite books 📚. Does your dad live near you? If you, would you consider having your dad discuss with you what he loves bout the books you are reading together? That’s if he isn’t too camera shy! It would be fun to hear the two of you discussing each of the books during a video.
My dad read a lot of Westerns. As I've gotten older, I've been reading more Westerns and figured out, yep, dad was onto something -- those dudes could WRITE. One lucky thing was, I always bought my dad books for his birthdays, Christmases, Father's Day, etc. And they were usually used books, because he didn't care, I could get him more if I bought 'em cheaper, and a lot of what he liked was out of print, anyway. So, after dad died, I inherited a ton of westerns and Nick Carter books that I'd been buying him for years. And he usually wrote a brief review (just "good," "very good," "bad style," etc.) in the front cover, so I get his recommendations from beyond the grave. :)
This is adorable. I got my dad a copy of Richard Matheson's Stir of Echoes cause he likes that movie and I also had a copy so we read it at the same time so we could discuss it. The conversation lasted like two minutes. He was like, yeah it was good. haha
I think it is super cool! My Dad was like your Dad, he always had a book, he would be with us in the living room, reading his book during the commercials of a program we were all watching together, he gave me my love of reading and it was always for pleasure. I miss him. I think your list is very interesting, though I have heard of several of the authors, I have not read any of these books.
Hi-looking forward to this project, I've not read a Neville Shute for years, but I love them all. I'm not familiar with most of the other authors but sounds like great fun.
I would get on well with your Dad I think! Trustee is my favourite Shute. About a model engineer who is self effacing yet incredibly stubborn in his commitment. Mike Lunnon-wood died too young but his British Military Quartet are favourites of mine. They are at times movingly sentimental. Start with " Let not the deep "
Love the concept of this buddy read, Olly. My mum was my biggest initial influence in reading and An Old Captivity by Nevil Shute was one of her favourite books so hearing your dad loves it made me smile like mad. Happy reading. :)
In a world where we are inundated with lists and pages of what and how to read, I am SO GLAD that YOU tell us you read for pleasure and that's it. There is nothing wrong with that, you don't HAVE to read anything, read what you like! Olly you are my favorite book channel by far, even though I'll NEVER get to read all the books you do.
This is fantastic! I would love to do a buddy read with my father. I have read several books by Duncan Kyle (The Dancing Men, A Cage of Ice, A Raft of Swords, Green River High, and Exit) and really enjoyed them.
I love this concept and am looking forward to the videos. While I can't buddy read with my mom, I can read the books I know she loved (I have them now). Again, great idea.
Aww this so beautiful to read with your dad. My dad and mum was big readers . But both passed away in 2016. I miss them talking about what they had read. It’s good to say how much you love your mum and dad . Every day. I’m wishing you and your dad a happy reading time .2025 ❤❤
That's a lovely idea 🥰 I haven't heard of any of those books lol My dad loved to read as well and I grew up in a home filled with books. Sadly he passed away a few years ago, but he left me his favourite book, The Goldfinch by Donna Tartt, which is now one of my priced possessions
Love it and can’t wait to hear both your thoughts on each book. My son and I share the same taste in books. I often pass on a good read to him and love to talk about it. It’s fun to hear his perspective which can be quite different from mine. Oh the beauty of getting lost in a good book. We each have our own thoughts and experiences
I've heard of THE MOON IS A HARSH MISTRESS and AIRFRAME, and I've heard of most but not all of the authors, but I'm not familiar with the other titles, and I've read none of them. Sounds like a fun project to do with your dad.
I envy you for this one. My dad's been gone about eight years. He wasn't much for reading anything but the newspaper when I was growing up, but he spent a lot of time on the road and I eventually got him hooked on audiobooks. It was good times, riding around with him and listening to Louis L'Amour, Sue Grafton, and even a Stephen King or two.
Long Reach-what a great discovery. I was in Belize in 1984. Raoul’s, JBs were real places. Remember Regt guys in Airport Camp-they were left to themselves. Cays amazing. Thanks. Looking forward to further comments.
Nice you share the reading habit with your dad. My father was a reader, but only non-fiction. His attitude was "If it's not real, why bother?" Needless to say, we were very different in that respect.
Well, you’ve gone and done it, now I have to do something like this with my dad. He’s got good taste, but it’s not quite my taste. I wonder what he’d list. Švejk, for sure, probably something by Väinö Linna (read his The Unknown Soldier!), but other than that… no idea!
What a great idea. I hope your dad has a great time. A lot of these books and or authors I never knew existed. Warwick Collins? And not to make anyone jealous but I do own the movie tie-in edition of Shute's No Highway with Jimmy Stewart and Marlene Dietrich on the cover. 😁
I've never done a buddy read. This sounds like an awesome thing to do with gour Dad! Sadly, I dont think mine haa read more than a handful of books in his entire life.

John 3:16-18 (KJV) "For God so loved the world, that he gave his only begotten Son, that whosoever believeth in him should not perish, but have everlasting life. For God did not send his Son into the world to condemn the world, but that the world might be saved through him. You are so blessed to still have your dad. CriminOlly Sr. 🤗
Great idea. I love Dad’s succinct descriptions of his books. He’s a genius.
Also, this has inspired me to think back happily on the many books I know my own dad to have read. I’ve not read any of them but maybe I should.
Oh this is an interesting concept! Also, shoutout to your parents for instilling the reading habit 👏🏽
I’m 80 years old, read a lot of Shute…Trustee from the Toolroom twice..one of my favorite books, also. I’m glad more will read it!
Ah fantastic!
This is a great idea. I’m excited to follow along and for the sheer fun you and your dad will have with this
Love this so much, Olly. What a wonderful project for you and your Dad. No surprise I haven’t read any of these but I definitely look forward to seeing how this goes for the two of you. 😊💙
Thank you! :)
What a fabulous idea. How lovely. Yep we really need your dad with you discussing his books 😊
What an absolute treasure of an idea. Who cares what the books are ... to be able and willing to do that with your dad is just the most precious thing in the world xx
❤️
This is such a good idea! very excited to see more
Love this idea and I can see this becoming another booktube trend you create!!
I, like many I'm sure, hope we get to meet your dad!!
I also would love to see dozens of booktubers all doing buddy reads with Olly's dad ;-)
😄😄😄@Wreckedsaint-nk5ub
This is such a fun plan for 2025! :) I hope to see your Dad in the videos!!
What a wonderful idea. I will be looking forward to the videos. Hopefully you can get your Dad to agree to appear on the channel for some of the episodes.
Thanks for sharing this, Olly. What a lovely idea, and such a nice tribute to your dad. I'm sure it'll be lots of fun :)
I’m sure it will be too 😊

I just ordered the 10 books from the list I did not already have. The first one I need may not arrive on time, but I’ll have the others.
I love this idea!
Love this idea!
Brilliant! I'm best friends w my dad (wasn't always that way! 😅) This makes me smile.
I love this concept and am looking forward to the videos. While I can't buddy read with my mom, I can read the books I know she loved (I have them now). Again, great idea.

Couldn't agree more!
Airframe is the only one of these that I have read. I liked it!
This is wonderful! My husband, daughter and I have just begun buddy-reading Moby Dick.
Oh cool! I loved that book
Love this video and idea!! ❤❤❤

My Dad’s favourite book was The Golden Spruce by John Vaillant. I have always meant to read it when he was alive, think I will do so this year :-)

Ohh, Olly, would your dad be open to show some of his favourite models?
Maybe! Although I think a lot of them may be packed away as they moved house recently
I'm a big lover of spy/techno thrillers, too. I've greatly enjoyed The Gray Man Series, by Mark Greaney. Give him a try if you haven't already.
Yes, read the first of those and it was a lot of fun
@@CriminOllyBlog I'm quite impressed that after 13 in the series, they're still fun to read.

I'll pass that on!
Do you ever reread favourite books?
Rarely
This is great, but I am worried about the entity controlling the color of your t-shirt. It is dangerously close to your neck. 😱
