Even without his sword, Kisame is a beast. He fought 7 gates Guy, takes a Hirudora to the face, and survived. Now granted Guy did say that he hold back because he didn't want to kill Kisame to get his intel but still, surviving Hirudora point blank is a good feat.
Him also preferring to die rather than snitch on his comrades is very respectable.
Furthermore, he SUCCEEDED in his goal, he got the intel out.

Kisame had drained chakra from Killer Bee and the 8 tails + Samehada wouldnt so shit against Guy who doesnt use chakra based attacks, so it doesnt matter if he had samehada or not +Guy had to use 7 gates only because he wanted to get the scroll back faster

Legendary dialogue
Despite everything that Kisame did, in the end, he was probably one of the most powerful and respectful characters in the show's history. He's fought against Guy three times, taken some of his most powerful attacks, and fought against numerous jinjhuriki over the show's history and lived, as well as other strong opponents as well. Even after all he did, he stood by the Akatsuki till the end, going so far as to die to help them.
Thats why Tobi had him in such high regard

If Oda is genius for mixing various cultures and story with a twist of mystery in it, i can say Kishimoto is infamous for making the story longer with too many flags that can make you frustrates, but also makes you want it to watch it more. If this two Mangaka join forces together to create a new Manga series, but with a little bit of mix from their famous masterpiece (One Piece and Naruto series), damn bro, i only can imagine if that happens will probably broke the internet.

Man, sometimes i just think that some Akatsuki member just lose because they fight with their hard counter like Kisame vs Guy, too bad Guy doesn't use much chakra. Deidara vs Sasuke, that Lightning weakness is too much, and Obito vs Kakashi, the only one with his hard counter, his own sharingan.
Guy is the anti-hax of this series. He fights you on your territory with advantage and shit, then proceeds to beat the fck out of you. What a Chad.

To one of the reactors point of her thinking they had a great relationship no they did not becuz if u rlly understood the show ull know that kisame was partnered up with itachi as a means to keep watch on his every move becuz the akatsuki never trusted him fully to begin with…thats why throughout you always see kisame tryna make his presence more known/feared by itachi so as to prevent him from leaking info about the akatsuki to anyone outside or trying anything funny

Fun fact....They talk about most of the legendary swordsman dying in a battle in the past....That was Guy's father that killed most of the wielders of the special blades. Using the 8th gate of death. Kisame's master was killed by Guy's father and he then got the sword from him just like Zabuza came to collect the butcher sword.
