Personally if I implemented something like this, I would add a dynamic camera that follows Eggman when he’s above or below the player, but this is a good idea. The prototype didn’t have a fixed camera and you took that to the logical extreme, while keeping the fixed camera for the intro, as to not ruin Robotnik’s dramatic entrance. Also, nice Knuckles art. Could be improved a little bit around the facial area, but it’s better then most of the other sprite sheets, that’s for sure

@@rileyjohnc7831 the Sega Genesis/Mega Drive only supports ASM and C. There's no way you will run Lua code on it unless you convert the Lua code to ASM or C.

Can you also show us some of Lava Reef Zone's modified background in the November 3rd 1993 prototype so that it matches the background parallax scrolling. And can you please show us some stuff in the Sonic 1 Prototype that was recently dropped in December 31st 2020. There is crazy stuff in there.
Interesting but i doubt they let it do more than 1 attack from below at a time. Itd be tidious having to wait around and also the camera not being locked barely lets you see robotnick at all when attacking from above. I can see why they scrapped it. Otherwise they have to add some way of hinting the player the next attack with be from below or below-diagonal and that would oveecomplicate the fight for a boss thats just 8 hits long. Theres not enough time to learn such complicated details. At least thats how all bosses are made. (Thats why hard bosses hacks dont feel official. The games are made with 5-10yo kids in mind)

Finding out all these small bugs, inconsistencies, and scrapped mechanics has shown me how half-baked a product Sonic 3 is. There is a LOT of this stuff.

One thing that ALWAYS bugs me is the fact that the manual refers the ship in Angel Island Zone as the Flying Battery blimp, I wonder if that was a mistake, because I’m pretty sure they like NOTHING alike.
You made those proto Knuckles sprites look more professional than a whole lotta other attempts at recreating them.

Most likely and would add too much complexity to the fight. Remember the bosses are programmed with small kids in mind. Even mania did that.

In the prototype, it plays an engine sound when Robotnik comes by. In the final, it's a siren.
