BAE = British Aerospace Engineering. The Hawk is the RAF fast jet trainer and this is also flown by the Red Arrows display team (in real life 😂). great flying and video.
B.A.E. Systems, (British Aerospace Engineering) I had the honor to work on the Hawk T1a for several years in the RAF, and it was a great community, from 100, 74, and 19 Squadrons. Absolutely great days with great guys. It's an awesome little jet in real life, and it's transonic if rolled inverted and put in a shallow dive. Curry nights on night flying, and contributing to UFO reports along the A55 motorway with its landing light! (But I didn't say that).
Hi all, being British, I have had the great pleasure of seeing the RAF Red arrow display team on many, many occasions. That is a great model, Steve. I love it.
As a kind growing up in England 🏴 I was always excited about seeing the Red Arrows either at air shows, and I was lucky enough to see them at the F1 Grand Prix at Silverstone. I’m now feeling like a kid again thanks to you Steve that I definitely want one of these exciting model aircraft’s. Thanks again for an excellent speed test and exhilarating video. 🇬🇧 Cheers George.
Hello you all RC pilots! Two years back I sold my FMS Bae Hawk 80mm but I'm ordering a brand new one now! It just flies great and is a beauty in the sky..Only one small rremark for the nice video... Putting the GPS plus the camera outside the model gives tonnes of extra drag, especially at high speeds!
CONSTANTLY TURNING EVEN A LITTLE DROPS YPUR TOP SPEED!! ON TOP OF THAT THE STRAIGHT LINE MUST BE FOR AT LEAST 6 SECONDS FOR GPS TO BE ACCURATE DUE TO SLOW POLLING RATE OF GPS SATS!!
Few anecdotes: Hawk had funny propellor-generator, which jumped up, to achieve hydraulic pressure if all systems were blackout. It is interesting that jets are not the fast part of rc-flying, the sailplanes are.
Good video! 1) Dont have to mount the GPS module outside the plane. 2) Spektrum makes a GPS Module which can show on screen of ix12 and audio call out for speed.
Hi Steve, great flying. As I am ex RAF (long time ago) I love the hawk and the sound is amazing. Good to see you looking so well. I was sorry to hear about your father, you should write a short story about his life. Regards from Cyprus. Looking forward to seeing 4 foot snow drifts over there...
That is one sick bird Steve. It looks great and that motor sounds the Closest to a real jet I've heard. I haven't checked the price yet but by the sounds and features it's gotta be a big ticket item. Seems like a winner... oh just heard the two Steve review and it sounds like you both love it and it's wicked fast. 👍
Hi Steve, not sure if you know but the fins on the rear and the drop tank are all the incorrect way. Just look at the pic on the box for clarification. Great review 👍🏾
@CAPTAINDRONE798 I was looking at the build part. Maybe you changed them to look like the picture for the rest of the vid. I had this jet. The "sticky" out part of the drop tank 100% goes FWD. Did you leave the gear doors as they were? It was the one gripe I had ok this jet with how flimsy they were.
Well, what can I say Captain! (and Jedi Steve!!) ; the opening footage and soundtrack? ; I thought it was straight out of Top Gun 4 !!! (well done BTW) ; amazing craft, looked good (pilot seemed familiar, I am sure he has tested other planes, moustache was a giveaway!!!), super fast and sounded amazing!; look forward to the next review however, (you know whats coming Captain!!) would be great to see a retrospective on the DJI Inspire 1 !!!!!
I bet you would have had a higher speed if the GPS unit was mounted inside the fuselage instead of in the windstream causing drag. Fun to see how fast it was.
I've watched several of the video's you've posted in the past weeks (about 3-4). At first I was going to say they were mostly of the ducted fan type, but now I believe they were balanced between both types (prop, and fan). I think that they are all fast enough for the average flyer and the last one (this one) was the fastest I feel. Have you ever attempted the type of jet that uses a REAL jet engine? Now those will be fast without question, but I don't have any idea what the difference might be. This one seemed quite realistic for the sound; I was listening to the engine to see if I could tell the difference between an electric motor turning a ducted fan vs a real jet engine. As I say, this one sounded just fine in that regard. As I asked above, have you attempted (or want to try a real jet engine when you get more practice?) I was at a fly-in at large field and there was a super-fast jet engine model. That was an experience to witness. It was faster than I had ever expected it to be. Very exhilarating. I would like to try an average one (like those you've shown here) and see how it would be. I know the drone would be easier to bring back and land near me (or on me) but the other would be fun to try too. I will be watching.
EDF jets are still kinda new to me as I continue my journey learning to fly. I do plenty of massively large prop planes that will appear in future vids. As for jets I started with 50mm, then moved up to 64mm, then to 70mm, 80mm and 90mm. A fuel powered turbine jet could give a longer flight time and more thrust, but those can’t be flown over people/cars at a park so to try one I’d have to go to a club that permits them…. Maybe one day.
This great flyer would be a great addition nest to my Avanti 80mm. Also, just curious, do you prefer this 80mm Red Hawk over its big brother, the Freewing T-45 Goshawk 90mm?
I have not flown the T-45, but have flown tons of 90mm EDF jets. It depends on your flying field if you need a 70, 80 or 90. If you have a large field then a 90 is great. Modern 80mm tend to be the sweet spot for power to weight ratio. I do have the 70mm version of this jet as well and it is also a joy to fly.
I laugh when people ask how fast a rc plane goes. Unless its FPV, then speed is irrelevant. Anything over 125 MPH, and your eyes struggle to follow it to be able to fly it. I dont care how big your field is, a plane covers a ton of ground at those speeds. There is a 1% group that can fly something at great speeds successfully. Even the little 4s V900 pulls over 10 G's when cornering at speeds. That's enough force to shred most planes. And for those that have not tried to fly like that, watch the plane as it goes away from them. Can you tell the orientation of the plane at that distance? Very difficult.
I made a mini tutorial (not a comprehensive one) in my video called CAPTAIN DRONE BEST LARGE BEGINNER RC PLANES. But, I will see if I can make a more comprehensive one.
I’m guessing your Mom gets upset with you watching vids late at night. You kinda gave away where you live in the world as the vids are programmed to launch at midnight eastern which is morning for those in the far east and evening for those in the west.

What a sound! ❤
Built one of these new and checked everything besides the ailerons. Beautiful takeoff and then disaster. They were reversed. I was devastated.

Nice detail looks insane
90? Just a bit outside...My guess was 184 before watching. Seems doable, most people stick that little GPS meter inside the fuselage.
Holy Mary Wilson Mother of Mototown, that’s bad ass fast, and crazy crazy flying Steve 👍🏼👍🏼👍🏼👍🏼👍🏼the sound is top gunish 👍🏼👍🏼👍🏼👍🏼👍🏼🤟🏼🤟🏼🤟🏼
Beautiful airplane

Thank you again. Keep presenting these great videos . 🇬🇧

In the US the FAA defines any remote controlled unmanned aircraft as a "drone" now! 😎
Really? Oh that is gonna confuse everyone.

Preflight check with flap check you could have noticed.nice video
Really cool set up

Good evening captain really nice jet cool review
Hi Steve, not sure if you know but the fins on the rear and the drop tank are all the incorrect way. Just look at the pic on the box for clarification. Great review 👍🏾
Drop tank only fits one way. Fins are standard on jets and all are oriented the same way.

I hit 124mph with mine!
Very cool sound…..bit pricey I think for what it is.
Steve, very cool RC plane. I love how you mount a video camera on the plane, so we can watch footage from the plane.
$440 in U.S. Not bad. Thanks Steve!

125 is slow to me
Are you sure your GPS is working correctly Steve....🙂
This is not max speed because you added the devices outside the body, making drag force higher.
Any chance you could make a “beginner’s guide to RC planes”, like you did for FPV drones?
I made a mini tutorial (not a comprehensive one) in my video called CAPTAIN DRONE BEST LARGE BEGINNER RC PLANES. But, I will see if I can make a more comprehensive one.
Yeah sounds like a good idea. I first found your channel, Steve, when I bought my Mini 2 and your general videos about FPV were really great
Fantastic video. Out of interest were you using the suggested control throws ?
Everything was as it was out of the box. No elevator, rudder, aileron throws were adjusted.
@@CAPTAINDRONE798 thanks for reply were you using high or low rates ?
@@AndyRc885 high rates with 30% expo

How does one learn LOS flying? I'm too dependent on FPV cameras =|
Just like flying a drone without a phone screen or FPV goggles, and only moving in the forward direction.
A nice airplane. Is start on grass possible?
Yes, grass takeoffs are possible.
Love your videos but it's BAe (British Aerospace) not "bay"
Could these be used in Ukraine?
The tank underneath is filled with diesel with die in it for the smoke and your is the wrong way round
