Cool video Nic! I've found some really great rocks on dirt roads and along railroad tracks. I didn't think it was boring but I bet those flies were super annoying. The things we do to go rockhounding!😄 Thanks for sharing your beautiful area and finds with us!✌️🤠
Thank you Kyla, I really appreciate you saying that. That's cool you rockhound on the dirt road and railroad too, nice. Right, these flies were rough, wish I could have walked slower. I appreciate you watching so much!
We thought this video was pretty fun and different. And geez, is Michigan half slag?! Crazy it's in the gravel too. Agreed! Feldspar is beautiful stuff. That flash it has is eye catching. Seems the railroad is the fossil hot spot. Hope you take us viewers on more adventures down that way. Thanks for taking us on this one! The area is very beautiful.
Thanks Charlie and Liz. Apparently it is, I didn't realize how much slag was found everywhere, even in the railroad rocks too. Feldspar is one I can't get enough of, I am drawn to that color and flash. I wish I could have walked slower, but my arms and legs took enough bites moving as fast as I was, lol. Planned on going on a hike through the trails behind us through nature, might have a rock or two, but mostly going to be a decent hike. I definitely want to go down this railroad more, this is old too, it's why this town is here, back when it was a small logging town and they used the train to biring logs to the muskegon river, which should have some rocks and artifacts.
@@CityRockhounding oh man that sounds so neat. I'm sure you teach us as you learn. Love a good logging or mining town. They all have unique stories to tell. Our hearts are full for you.
@@TheAdventureCloset aww thank you, we really appreciate you saying that, truly means a lot to us! I still have a lot to learn, but it will be soon when I explain the story of the town and area here. I totally agree too, a longing or mining town have some interesting stories and history! Our hearts are with you Charlie and Liz!
And those are great fossil find on the railroad, pretty nice, gotta have been there from the fill in of thr railroad so prob not native of that exact spot but pretty cool to still see. 😎
Yeah, definitely being on the top layer, definitely placed there recently, you can see the difference layers of rocks they've added over the years to build the rails up. But still cool. I need to get into the woods I'm thinking, the morning made no difference with the flies, lol they never sleep. My wife wants to go hiking on the trails behind us, maybe there will be some small creek or runoff where rocks gather, big maybe! Either way, buying a flatlap here soon, got a great offer on the house last night, going to be a quick close, this family really wants it.
@@CityRockhounding Yean, I got a rotary tool kind like a dremel but not namebrand and I am interested to see what I'll end up doing with that. 😀 Still in the collection phase of rochounding, will eventually need to expand that though.
Yeah, the Irish spring stops them my eating me a live, but I still went home with a couple bites. Yeah, I don't no if its the location or just this year thst they are bad, it's crazy though. I seen Rob from MI Rocks even wearing a net suite. Hope you are doing well and still finding some good rocks with the flies!
Such a peaceful looking area. Some nice looking rock's they look great for tumbling and those fossils, I'm really getting into the fossils great video! Thanks for sharing looking forward to your next adventure
I just started getting into fossil early this year, we can't get enough of them. I really appreciate you watching and saying that. It really is a peaceful area, nice to get out of the city, lol.
That dirt road is really cool, but whats with the flies? The tree lined dirt road is super peaceful. Wild amount of rocks on a dirt road. And wow, a rail yard with tons of rock! And fossils! And the amount and fantastic, beautiful rocks you found, was incredible! Thanks!
Thanks Lisa, that means a lot. I'm going to explore new areas this weekend, even if I don't find rocks, Stull be a peaceful hike by the river. I appreciate you watching and your wonderful support! The flies around here are insane, horse and deer flies!
Very cool bud!..you'll learn the area more as you go. Back road hunting is neat!..good finds!..the train tracks around here have been known to produce Petoskey and pudding stone!
Really nice video. Yes the deer and horse flies are bad. Ticks is what has been really bad for us this year. 14 in 6 weeks between my dog and i. Thanks for taking us all along. HH
The flies are bad towards the woods in my area also. That is awesome to walk down the road and find so many nice rocks and fossils :) Oh and then the tracks also. Oh wow that will keep you busy for some time :) Enjoyed watching ! Keep on rockin' 😊👍
Yeah, definitely keep me busy, this railroad runs right over to the muskegon river 7 miles away, do I plan to rockhound the rivers and creeks around me too, if I can even access them with the thick woods, might have to wait until winter more. I really appreciate you watching Cherry, thank you!
Nice video, definitely a more different hunt when the ground is the way it is on a gravel/dirt road but just keep looking and eventually you'll be able to find a hot spot that has some solid material. For where your at though there were some good finds you discovered. 😀
Yeah, pretty good for a dirt road, going to explore more this weekend by the river, hoping for good stuff, but might end up just being a nice hike. I really appreciate you watching man, thank you!
Got a new place to explore eh? Cool. Can find some cool stuff on gravel roads. Dunno about r r tracks...lol, never wanted to get caught walking along them. Dang, pesky flies! Nothing ruins a nature walk faster than bugs. Probably be better in the fall. 🤔
First video I watched when I got home , Great video and amazing finds Nic, and looks a lot cooler than where I was digging this week 113 + real feel is a killer
Wow that's too horrible for me, dang. Thw flies sucked but better than the heat like that. I really appreciate you watching Jeff, your support is amazing! Hope you had fun!
Once, but that was before I really knew what I was doing. I should give it a try again. I really appreciate you watching and saying this, I will have to get a batch of slag going sometime, there is some with really pretty colors too. Thank you Kim!
Hey there City Rockhounding, although NorthCountry Rockhounding might fit better now, LOL. Yeah, you should get some bug net hats, those dang things will ruin the fun fast! are those tracks still used? the ties look really bad. Hope you have been well Nic and Family, happy hunting.
Hey HCH, yeah, these rails are still used once or twice a day during the week only, and yes I agree they are in rough shape, I can feel some creaking as I walk on some. Yeah I purchased a hat netz works well, still they are so annoying though. I maybe be finding better rocks more upnorth, but I feel the fossils are better so far down there!!! Plus I'm miss the Clinton River. So far the muskegon river is all sandy and swampy, no fun, plus the woods are so thick to try and hike through right now, get kind of claustrophobic out there at points with how much climbing, crawling and squeezing between trees and overgrown weeds! It's fun, but when I'm out there looking for rocks, it takes a lot of time to get to places. I really appreciate you watching, and thank you.
Nic, thanks for the look on your country road up there! The flies this year are CRAZY!!! We got eaten up in central Wisconsin, and I've got to go back up there next week for more bloodletting. Ugh! But...the rock finds are worth the trouble! Do you have a creek or river close to you?
Yes, the muskegon river is 7 miles away, and a few creeks also I need to explore. I'm afraid that the muskegon river is mostly sand, and the creeks are in the middle of thick thick nature, hard to access. So I might have to wait until closer to winter. Cool you get to do some more rockhounding in WI, but sucks the bugs are bad there too. Sorry why you have to go there though!
Thanks cool, I was pretty shocked what I was finding there, enough that I was going to try it again sometime. Thanks Travis, that would be cool to find that!
Seasonal roads! Really it's for all the 4 wheelers and ATVs around here. Everyrhing here is sand. The last few days have been rough looking, these flies really suck, horse and deer flies!
@@CityRockhounding Ahhhh hate flies! I never really had an issue with them in western Washington, they are everywhere here too! You guys ever put pennies on the tracks? I love doing that!
