Nigel Carrington's reading of The Aeneid section 4 opened my ears to this ancient story. Brilliant pacing and diction. Lord, I felt the despair of Troy in my chest. Great performance, Mr. Carrington.
Can you actually believe this guy told his wife to follow behind at a distance as he walked through a literal battlefield and was still surprised when she had died?? Not an IQ 1000 move
To say it as it might have then, in days ancient, been said: "It is sad that our fantastic orator ("Bob Newfield" he says.)* seems to have no compliments in the comments infra." * I recognize also his voice from his excellent reading of Heart of Darkness. Sir, you're a modern hero. RC
OMG, let me retract that, ye Gods of Olympus! I somehow had my settings such that I only could see folks 'a-griping'. I now see others commenting on just how great our orator "Bob" is. Mea culpa and however it's spelled in ancient Greek and anything else! RC
Thank God I found a prose translation. All of the ones that are translated and in rhyme are unbearable and impossible to listen to and understand the way that they speak in that way that you speak when you read poetry that rhythm makes understanding anything you're saying impossible.
I love the translation, and I was skeptical because I own several translations. However, the Elmer Fuddette reading book 10 nearly ruined it. She has nothing on Michael Palin that is foe sure!

Not even an IQ 10 move bro
Remember back then death had only just become a "thing"
Bold words for a man talking centuries later where Aeneis can't hear you
What if it was a figurative battlefield? Was it a literally literal actual real life battlefield?
Life IS the battlefield
I really love the Libervox plug between each chapter. Really keeps that immersion going.
Excellent reading.

You know when you’re being challenged if the narrator starts out with “There’s something grotesque...”

Here's an idea. If you can't pronounce an "r" then ,perhaps ,you shouldn't read aloud on youtube? This book is NOT supposed to be funny....
