I don't know how the internet connected me to this man, but I am happier for it. Someone asked me what he was talking about and I said, "I don't care, I just want to hear him talk." ❤️
@MAC SLEEZE no its not just Scottish, it is used in Scotland, Ireland and Northern Ireland. Having lived in all 3 countries ( Cork, Killyleagh, Glasgow) can say everywhere I've lived I've heard all celts use it.
"I'm nobody's cabinet maker" I think that's one thing I like about your channel... You watch a lot of woodworking videos that make things like dovetails out to be these works if art that aren't even worth making if they aren't perfectly chiseled smooth with zero gaps, preferably in two contrasting woods to show off how good you are at woodworking. But they're traditional joinery for a reason - even if you just hog the material out with a hand saw and ram them together, you'll get a fairly solid joint, because it's just a well designed joinery method.
watching these videos makes me feel like it’s summer and I’m a child in the countryside being shown a bunch of cool woodworking skills by my nice older-brother type friend. His passion is contagious, I feel so inspired.
Well you're in luck, he has a youtube channel! No need to cater his content to corporate coonts, just a whole channel of whatever he wants to talk to us about :)
Who doesn't need a wee bit o the Irish in their day to day lives! Eoin keep making these VJOs, I know your busy with school n the odd social life, but you bring a joy to the world that I hope soon will be recognized by the masses!!
This guy is basically everyone's Irish cousin who does woodworking and carpentry, might not understand what he's explaining all the time but you're interested anyway because the fine work he does. Bravo.
In high school the first project we did as freshmen in carpentry was make our own dovetails toolboxes. I still have mine 10 years later. It’s still beautiful.
I've seen 100s of dovetail joint videos before this, all of them were with machines, and special glues and chemicals, I never understood a dovetail joint until now.
I miss doing woodwork, especially in my college days as an apprentice carpenter. But tended to work with steel mostly and modern products on the actual job. I will always have an appreciation of the old ways.
It's amazing that people used to dovetail wood because it was cheaper than using nails. Nowadays it saves huge time to bang a few brads and call it a day, but something of the craft is surely lost. Not to mention this is a much stronger joint.
I love the little ping that coping saws make when they pull free from a cut! Also, another note, I'm so glad I found you. Your little videos bring a little joy to my day, your happiness really spreads! Never stop these little videos, they make a lot of people happy. You can be our cabinet-maker any day!
My dad was a cabinet maker by trade and he was always very particular about marking out, it's the trick to a good clean dove tail, and obviously very sharp tools
I don't do any sort of wood working, I'm not a particularly handy person, but for some reason I enjoy your videos! I find it especially cool that you build a bunch of stuff and don't use power tools. Great content!
I was doing working with wood in my engineering class and was struggling a bit, watching this video alone has already made me understand a lot more than what my teacher did lol
I love these little videos with tips for woodworking on this one I think your dovetail joint looks to be a bit too snug. It should slide together without too much stress I think, otherwise the joint could expand and split
Love the content! Is it possible to make something using only dovetail joints. Obviously it's not practical but is it doable? Like could you use dovetail joints to attach legs to a chair??
I'm more impressed by how your tools are well maintained and sharp, I'd like to watch how many different types of saw you have, especially that couping saw one
Since watching your channel I've bought a few chisels and planes, have started making a jewellery box and used dovetail jointing, except I didnt go all the way through, trying to cut it was so hard I had to do most of it by chisel. I used to be a bricky so I know you don't use a brick if it's too small in most spots, is there a rule like that for wood? I've been trying to make gaps around bits that are 5ml thick and am super lucky when they don't crack.
I realized that in all the chiseling videos I’ve been absorbing that I was having trouble visualizing the force needed behind the chisel. This closed that gap for me - thank you m
Run a flat file over the top of all the teeth, then hit each one with a triangle file, same amount of strokes per tooth to keep it from being to short. If your saws are point hardened, you can't really resharpen them, because they are harder than the file. You can identify them pretty easily because the teeth will be a blue colour.
I don't know how the internet connected me to this man, but I am happier for it. Someone asked me what he was talking about and I said, "I don't care, I just want to hear him talk." ❤️
I was about to say I love his voice
same haha hes so calming
Everyone loves us auld Irish boys 😂
If you don’t understand what hes talking about when he’s literally explaining it just tells me you are either deaf/dumb or lazy.
I’m a straight dude and I still like hearing him talk lol something incredibly pure about this dude
Mad the amount I've learnt from watching this wee lad
There we go, lad!
Wee lad is a Scottish saying. He is Irish ☘️
@@macsleeze6141 but the op might be scottish bruv

seems a decent sized lad, no? haha

Agreed! I honestly had no clue and now I am actually willing to try this one of these days
It works even when done shitty? I need to try that
@@jenstrudenau9134 that's why it's a classic. Anybody can learn it with the right saw and a bit of practice. Way easier than most "fancy" joinery
That’s how it used to be, simple and practical. Now in this meaningless time we obsess over perfection.
Very, very good point!
watching these videos makes me feel like it’s summer and I’m a child in the countryside being shown a bunch of cool woodworking skills by my nice older-brother type friend. His passion is contagious, I feel so inspired.
Need a whole TV series of this man buulding things. Literally anything.
Well you're in luck, he has a youtube channel! No need to cater his content to corporate coonts, just a whole channel of whatever he wants to talk to us about :)
Aaand that's why the Irish accent is considered the most attractive accent. I'm obsessed
SAMMIE, FUNNY THING. A BUNCH OF HIS VIEWERS SAID THEY WERE STARTING TO GET IRISH ACCENTS!!! ME TOO. HE'S LOVELY TO WATCH AND BE WITH!!!
I love your passion man!
I find the quote "How a person does one thing is how they do everything" quite true. You do great work!
Who doesn't need a wee bit o the Irish in their day to day lives! Eoin keep making these VJOs, I know your busy with school n the odd social life, but you bring a joy to the world that I hope soon will be recognized by the masses!!

I'm so glad I found this page, such wholesome, informative and entertaining stuff
That is truly beautiful artwork
Definitely one of the more beautiful joints 👍
Lads yes, LASSES here too! ❤😂
Lads includes lasses ,it's an Irish thing
Lots of us lasses out here enjoying Eoin. I've been wanting to bring him a piece of ash for ages.
@@ceejay3054 are you using a play on words??
My goodness.. Passionate countryside Irish men, you're in my heart.
How could you possibly not like this guy
This guy's voice relaxes me. I'm a 10 year concrete contractor and he relieves that stress
Lmfao I just love this guy fr
ay that joint is mad clean
This is the most amazing channel i never knew i needed.
He has such a twinkle in his eye. I think he knows he is adorable :)))
I think my favourite part of joinery is watching the different methods and techniques different craftsmen use for the same joints
This is so wholesome I’m gonna binge the channel and subscribe
You are such a talented young man.
Tapping the joint together like that is so satisfying to me. I love it when I have the two pieces so perfect that they match up without any issues.
This young man has knowledge beyond his years and is a very clear teacher I wish him all the success in the world keep it up fella 👍
any advice on a picking a leaving cert wood work project? thanks.
Man you should do a podcast. I could listen to you for hours
I am a wee lassie who loves to watch the miracles of wood working art.
I don't have any skill in it, but I enjoy watching.
I remember making dovetail joints at school, way back in the 80s. I loved woodwork classes 😊
In high school the first project we did as freshmen in carpentry was make our own dovetails toolboxes. I still have mine 10 years later. It’s still beautiful.
You know what I love most about these techniques? Man's not missing any fingers, maybe a few old cuts but nothing major.
A video on how to mark them out would be great
You make it look easy but having good sharp tools and a very practiced hand is essential for this.
Takes me back to secondary school woodwork, I do miss it. But you're inspiring me to get into it again.
I want to build a currach.
I've seen 100s of dovetail joint videos before this, all of them were with machines, and special glues and chemicals, I never understood a dovetail joint until now.
Man, there's a cool vibe to your videos 👍
Keep making my days happy
I miss doing woodwork, especially in my college days as an apprentice carpenter. But tended to work with steel mostly and modern products on the actual job. I will always have an appreciation of the old ways.
This guy is a treasure
What do you usually do with the wood after a demonstration like this?
I need more Irish Japanese woodwork
This man could narrate building a sandwich and I’d still watch it 10 times.
The first and only time I’ve ever subscribed to a channel because of a Short
I miss doing woodworking a lot as the years go by..
You really deserve all the love in the world you majestic man
Entertaining calming video from the everyday stress. Thank you!!
I have learned more from you than my woodworking class! Thanks man
This makes me think about my carpentry and joinery class I did in highschool. Fun times.
I'm so obsessed with this man!
And lo and behold, this mad has explained something I’ve wondered about all my life.
you are the man! perfect joint!
The little *ping* the little piece of wood made when it flew out was 10/10

Great job!:) thanks for sharing ✌️💚😊
I was doing working with wood in my engineering class and was struggling a bit, watching this video alone has already made me understand a lot more than what my teacher did lol
Thanks man!
The fact that you did that by hand is impressive
Love your content!! When hammering dovetails I like to put a scrap piece of wood so that it goes in even😯
Why is this so satisfying
Something tells me this man's DMs are flooded with admiring American women wanting to learn traditional woodworking >
I've learnt more about woodworking from this bloke than I have from my tech and industry studies teacher back in highschool.
So pretty
What an old soul of a young lad.
you make it look easy👍💜🍂☘️
I throughly enjoy your videos and craftsmanship, you will survive the end times.
Love that mallet! Great short!
I love these little videos with tips for woodworking on this one I think your dovetail joint looks to be a bit too snug. It should slide together without too much stress I think, otherwise the joint could expand and split
Do you do any longer vids showing how to do stuff? This is great stuff buddy

That's pretty good for by hand
You sir are a master at your craft. I don’t care if you mop floors. Be a master at it. Awesome
Do a pin and cove please it looks so much nicer than dovetail and i want to see it done with handtools like this, cool video, keep it up
what do you do with the wood you use just for practice?
You are one smart man appreciate you man

You're gonna get me back into wood working w enough of these 🤣
I'LL BET YOUNG EOINS SHOP TEACHER IS PROUD!!
My grandfather used to make some beautiful dovetails
We all can tell that you have some serious passion for carpentry/woodworking. Keep it up. You make some great content. Thank you.
*gets flashbacks whenever someone says dove bc AO3*
Question for ya. How do you sharpen those large teeth hand saw.
I love watching your videos, so informative and fun. Love your personality and your voice is so nice. Great job man, keep the vids coming
