Usually matte finish products go well on oily skin. But there are products which have hydrating properties even with matte finish. For example the foundationI used in this video, even though it says matte finish but has serum and Hyaluronic acid which are good hydrating components for dry skin. Also a lot depends on your skin prep before makeup. So the matte rule gives you the correct product 90% of the times, but I advice you to always read the labels
