Honestly some people are like "It's so obvious it's a boy" because they know he is. If you actually watch the performance without focusing on the gender, he sounds much like a woman in her 40's.
There already was a male contestant who crossdressed (he wasn't famous though) and nobody could guess he was a man.

Felt bad for the other guy, he has such a gorgeous and powerful voice, which became a lot more apparent in his reveal song. And... also he turned out to be gorgeous himself! lol. Also I can't be the only one imagining Sunyoul as a girl AFTER the reveal right? A wig, some blush and some lipstick, done and done, easy pass. ^_^ Been waiting for a k-drama where the girl turns out to be a guy (it's only been the other way around so far!) ;)

Her voice is similar in quality, but his voice is clearly male. It has a the sharp falsetto tone that women don't have in their modal voices because falsetto is produced by a different part of the vocal folds. The sound of his voice is similar to Harisu's, who's a famous Korean singer with the same feminine tone (she's transgender).

Honestly if I didn't already know this was Sunyoul I totally would've thought it was a woman - especially since they dressed him in woman's clothing, which I wouldn't expect. It's not just that his voice is high - the quality of his voice when he's singing in the higher end of his range sounds like a woman's (the more "male" quality comes out way more when he's singing in the lower end of his range).

actually its quite true, if you dunno the identity of the singer at first it will be hard to know if a girl or a guy was singing. Tv and live sound a little different too, so it can affect your listening. But sunyoul did a great job! ^^
