Regardless of your view on the penalty, Scotty threw it away by bowling a wide at turn one. Lowndes in the wall = penalty and Scotty losing the championship. Lowndes not in the wall, but still has a run and the inside line for turn two = Scotty loses the championship.
> Lowndes not in the wall, but still has a run and the inside line for turn two = Scotty loses the championship. How on earth do you conclude this?! SM would have divebombed him back at the very first opportunity. For example he could divebomb at the hairpin and park it on the apex, then the next turn is a right hander so he would have track position for that and from there it's only 1 more corner to the end.
The Internet is making people crazy Lowndes had an overlap, the inside line and - what you seem to have forgotten - four fresh tyres. He pitted under SC, Scotty didn't.
Thomas Harrison-Lord I agree Scotty had a tough last couple of laps but you have to admire his persistence and pure skill he drove that car to the absolute limit where most drivers would have given up he pushed on so i think you can forgive him for his mistakes because he gave us one hell of a race and championship decider and whether or not lowndes crashed on purpose when its made into a movie in 10 years it just adds more drama to an already amazing story. #givescottahug
I'm confused on why people are saying Lowndes is at fault. McLaughlin made a mistake, Craig took it as an opportunity, McLaughlin slightly shunts him into the wall. Even if team orders you can't force someone to hit you.
Yeah, that was for the Championship if I was listening correctly. Scotty needed 11th and Lowndes would've passed him there for sure. Scotty wrecked him and got penalized as he deserved. Scotty is a great driver and will be in contention next year, he should've just lost like a man instead of wrecking a legend of the sport who was taking advantage of his mistake.
Because you don't understand anything about race etiquette. SM is allowed to squeeze him towards the wall, as long as he gives him a car's width, which he did. The only reason they made contact was because Lowndes' side of the road narrows, which is his responsibility to account for. Lowndes should have seen that his side of the track was narrowing and backed out, simple as that. As long as SM's car is pointed straight the whole time while the track is narrowing, he's not guilty of anything.
lukim Exactly we are all humans and we make mistakes and its Scott's 3 year in V8's so all we can do is support all drivers to learn from there mistakes and better themselves as drivers so us as viewers have an incredible time watching them drive to their full potential, but when i saw Scotty after the races i just wanted to #givescottahug

Man, I really wanted Scotty to get this. Heartbroken to see how it all went down. 3 penalties in one race? He basically did it to himself honestly. That was one hell of a race though. I will say that the officiating in this series needs a serious reevaluation. They're terribly inconsistent. I've never seen anyone handed a penalty so quickly, especially with so much on the line.
Adrian Casillas the speeding in pit lane penalty was crap the speedo showed he was going 38 not 40 or over plus hes back blinker was going off showing he was under 40ks

I am not saying this because he is one of my favourite drivers, but when he retires, you will realise how much of a great of Australian Motorsport he really is. And I know Scott McLaughlin should have won the title on count back, but rules are rules.

Scott straightened into a lane marked on the road by a white line after covering his line post corner which he is entitled to do. Scotts line did not deviate after moving over still leaving Craig the inside lane which due to track design narrows at the impact point. I doubt scott intentionally setup the situation for Craig to box himself in and effectively run out of track width. Just an observation from someone who watches TCM rather than v8 supercars.
