I have a 982 that's about 3 years old and I love it. Although right from new I had trouble with the first valve its worn in well now. It's plays beautifully and makes me sound much better than I am.
@tankthetuba In what world do you consider Purcell variations a 3rd section test piece?! It's just been used as the Second section FINALS piece and was originally used as a FIRST section regionals piece! Also i know plenty of Tuba players who can nail out a super F on a besson, could it be a case of a bad workman blaming his tools?
The 982 has marching rings, while the 981 has not. The height of the leadpipe is also different. One is designed to play sitting down, the other one is designed to be better usable when marching.
@@Ruigekerel I also have a 981 , well it;s the wifes but due to her bad arthritis i play it , and i'm glad it doesn't have the harness rings ....bloody awful things that stick in your gut .

Having played Eb for some 36 years, I have still to find a Sovereign series instrument that has a usable high Ab (concert pitch....that's F above top C for Brass Banders), yet there is a G and an A....just NO Ab! As for the octave above...FORGET IT, IT'S NOT THERE!!!!!!!!!!!! This would indicate to me that there is something seriously missing in the harmonics, that should be looked at as a point of urgency as 3rd sec pieces are getting written D (Conc F) in Purcell Variations! Not long til F
