    I love when he rolls into the throttle at 4:10 and the nose starts lifting up. I miss those days of real raw power when you actually had to drive a car and if you weren't careful, you wrecked it. The car makes some awesome sounds.

    That is one of the nicest cars (classic) I've seen....somebody has spent a lot of time and damn sure a lot of money. ..detail like that doesn't come easy....many late nights ...lots of sweat. ..yenko or not ..its a nova...a damn nice ass car period. ...one I would be proud to own

    An old engine builder trick is to cut a groove in the top inside of the lifter bore, top to bottom, so that oil drips down on the camshaft and prevents flat spotting your cam lobes. You lose a little oil pressure but your camshaft lives.

    Back in 70,we had a 402 Nova .030 over 408,Manley 12.5-1 pistons
    Crower 580,580 320 duration cam,lots of machine work,suspension
    work etc etc.Topped with a Weiand 2-4V tunnel ram,Holley 660 carbs
    11 in slicks w/Moroso front drag tires--car ran 10.80s..Your car sounded just like ours with closed headers
    I miss the car,had lots of fun
    Thanks for sharing that

    This is my favorite video I've done to date. I got to bang gears in it! I'm usually the one doing the filming. You'll know the scene I'm talkin' about! I was trying to keep it from breaking the tires loose. That 427 was wicked in this custom Nova. - Samspace81 #nova #beastmode

    Don Yenko converted a whole bunch of cars, not just Camaros. He had Yenko Chevelles, Yenko Novas, Yenko Camaros, even Yenko Corvairs. Pretty neat stuff. May not be factory original (Correct me if I am wrong) but still sweet as hell to have such a high horsepower motor in a tiny car.

    • @novaguy509
      @novaguy509 2 года назад

      I like it too. As for a genuine Yenko Nova 427 there are only 7 to 9 in existence. A garnet red one with a black vinyl top completely original sold for $300,000.

  • @16penney
    @16penney 12 лет назад +1

    Yea, those 427 nova's built by Yenko are the most rare of his supercars , and for good reason. The nasty big rat was really too much for a stock body nova and actually quite dangerous according to don yenko himself. It was something like 0-60 in a tick over 3 seconds with all kinds of body and suspension twisting going on. Hairy ride.

  • @dutchboy25al

    One of the cleanest Novas I've seen. That hood looks great on that car.

  • @samspace81
    @samspace81  11 лет назад +2

    Did you see the part where I went through the gears? It winds up pretty good! I never bounce a car off a rev limiter, bad for the valves.

  • @bigfootoneshot
    @bigfootoneshot 12 лет назад +1

    I'm curious. What did you Folks have to do to prepare those Nova Frames/Suspensions to handle the HP of the 427s?
    A Buddy of mine put a strong 327 small block in one of these Cars and the first time he really nailed it from a standing start, the Car literally twisted the real Leaf Spring into a Pretzel and did a real number on what was left of the rear bodywork. Maybe I can answer my own Question here and say 400 hp was too much for a single leaf rear suspension especially w/o Frame Connectors.

    You'd need a 4 door nova with poverty caps, bench seat, column shift. With a 1970s compass on the dash. My great grandma had a green on green nova like that (with a 307 or some little lo-po v8). Except hers was a coupe. Right now it's rotting behind my uncle's house.

  • @DtRockstar1

  • @samspace81
    @samspace81  12 лет назад

    @DimebagCFH4Life You can hardly compare a mass factory assembled STi to this hand-blocked, painted, and assembled Nova, restored to spec. and beyond. Its balanced and blueprinted forged high compession 427, Muncie 4-speed, aftermarket clutch and built 12-bolt posi-trac rear end to that boosted, depreciating, plastic interior, trouble code throwing import. .

  • @karznboats
    @karznboats 10 лет назад +7

    I hope this car was not passed off as a real Yenko. It is a very nice car but highly unlikely to be real. No Yenko striping or badging, Yenko's never had a cowl hood. The engines were 450 hp not 460. Yenko tried to limit colors to Garnet Red, Fathom green, Rally green, or LeMans blue.

    • @The05ZX10R

  • @josephgeidl3663
    @josephgeidl3663 7 лет назад +1

    Yenko built a total of 38 427/450 horse 69 & 70 Nova's. It's said that only 10 survive. They where all based on 396 cars as the heavy duty suspension was already installed.My guess is that in that a short wheelbase car with 450 HP tends to go off the road in a BIG way.... Approximate value? I saw one at Barrett Jackson with a pre-auction estimate of 350 to 400K. I don't know if it sold.

    • @bobbrinkerhoff3592
      @bobbrinkerhoff3592 Год назад

      Yenko didn't build any big block Novas for 1970 , they were all LT1 powered Yenko Deuces . Short wheelbase , at 111 inches it's three more than a Camaro .

    I know the L88 was 427/430hp and was very under rated. also gm had restrictions to order a L88 like no radio , no heater core , heavy duty susp. the L71 was 427/435hp. But I am no expert on Yenko , I am just a huge fan. In my opinion they had the best muscle cars of the late 60's hands down. Yenko was into making crazy fast cars , they could have swapped intakes and carbs. Again your lucky to own your nova, it will eat corvettes all day from the same generation.

    Greatt car, brother. Not as loud as she should be, though. You need to get a glass pak, but make it so the car is real quite on the inside and loud on the outside. Then, throw some dumpers in her, so when you want, you could open 'em up, and the cabin will be filled with the sound of a big ol' monsterous V8.

    You're right, there's no subframe connectors or strut braces. In the Yenko directory, there's more than 7. I counted 23. They did LT1's in 1970 as well. I turned down $550k for both. Two different appraisals by top name dealers put the nova's value at $350k+ The Camaro is worth $100k more. A popular Canadian company wet themselves when they saw them, but they just low balled me. I have a Mach 1 429 SCJ 4 speed & a '65 GT-350 as well, I invested in Iron Stocks.

    4seconds,probably with slicks back then, at the most, with modern timing equipment. That number came from don yenko himself. Supercars of today and the high performance cars from back then are on different planets. One uses high tech sophistication, the other uses pure brute force.

    thats because it was an 84 after 72 they tamed them down for emissions purposes, and fuel mileage, i know i think it was the 440 that by 1978 only had 180hp whereas in 1970 it had 425

      Yea every time he gets on it just a little bit he immediately down shifts. With 4:10 gears what did he get it up to....60-65...and then down shifts hard and slides the back tires like oh shit I was almost speeding.

    I don't think it's real. When it showed the air cleaner, it said "427 Turbojet 460 HP". All Yenkos used the L-72 427 rated (underated) at 425 HP. I believe the only factory Chevy big block rated at 460 HP was the 1970 LS6 Corvette (the 1970 LS6 Chevelle was rated at 450 HP) and I am not even sure any of those were produced.

    cool vid but you don't need to wash down the cylinders like that before you shut it off. Just leaves fuel in there to gum up.
