The world, unfortunately as well, tried to picture them as racists, but whoever goes further in its history - which is not a so difficult thing to do - wil realize that this is not true. I wouldn't admire Boers, they repeatedly fired on British soldiers under white flags as well as dressing as British soldiers to lead them into ambushes. They were dirty fighters.
I was posted to 11 commando - Danie Theron combat school Kimberly in 1981 to do my basic training and intelligence course as part of my 2 years national service.
Watching this, makes me even more proud to be a Afrikaaner Boer. This scurmich took place on the hill tops between Randfontein and Westonarea. One can view this memorial from the road side.. Surved in the previous government army. Rus in vrede Danie. (Rest in peace Danie.)..

There's another excellent but thick book by James A. Michener called The Covenant about the Boere nation. Give it a try, it's worth it's while.

Was there in 1989-90, the school had then moved to Potchefstroom from Kimberley.
