I plan to make a driveway gate this summer to keep my pups in too. Your puppy is so adorable. Thank you for posting this will definitely help me get started.
believe it or not i'm planing put gates up between two concrete posts and was sh*tting myself about drilling the posts but now i've watched your video i feel better all i have to do now is wait for this crappy Manchester weather to improve
Haha, glad it could be of help! That was definitely the scariest part. I tried one hole with a crappy drill bit and *instantly* regretted it and bought some better bits. Made all the difference.
I would like to build some gates for the side of my house. Our old ones got damaged in a storm a few years ago. I've always thought I couldn't do such a big job but your video made it look, not easy but very achievable.
Hey! This projects looks great. Please don't forget to put some extra protection from weather on the gates. It would be a shame to lost so much good work to the rain.
@@northernworks To be honest, I have no idea. I'm from Poland, so brands and products I could get are slightly different here. Nevertheless, all external projects need some kind of paint or sealant to protect wooden elements from moisture and sun too. I bet you can find something good quite quickly on UK market. I would look for wood treatment agents for external project. They come in two varieties, as clear coats or to with added color. So if you would like to make some colorful gates this is a way to go.
I couldn't be happier with these gates, and they were right on time for our new arrival. Let me know what you think!

Yes! I’m so happy to hear that. I was also daunted, but I just took it all step by step. Look forward to seeing the result!

Thanks! What would you recommend? I’m expecting this timber will silver, similar to the fences

The gates look fantastic. It might be worth treating the cut edges of the wood to make them last a bit longer.
Thanks! Yeah they’re still looking super fresh. Any recommendations to seal those ends?
@@northernworks I'd use a clear wood preserver, just brush a couple of coats on. You may not need it though as it's not touching the ground.
Al they need a some wood preservetive enjoyed the video.
The timber is already treated from the lumber yard, but I think I’ll add some oil to the exposed ends to stop water seeping through the end grain
The framing on the gates, was it 2x4 cls timber or something else? Was it pre treated? Tganks
2x4 pretreated CLS, exactly
Those J-bolt adjustable gate hinges don't seem easy to find across the pond here in Florida. Ill have to dig a little deeper and see what I can find.
They were pretty hard to find here, in fairness. I got mine from a farming supplier, so maybe check around that kind of place.
Well done. Do you will protect the wood somehow or not? I greet and invite you to me. Peace & Make
Just the cut ends to stop water getting in, but I want the wood to silver naturally over time
