Javon: Here's a fun fact from Carl Douglas mini-bio: "The resultant song "Kung Fu Fighting" was recorded in a mere ten minutes and was released as the A-side to the single. "Kung Fu Fighting" peaked at #1 on the pop charts in both Britain and America alike and went on to sell over nine million copies worldwide."
Carl lives in Germany in 2020. He wrote it and performed it.. and it has been on many a movie soundtrak. He still makes 300-400 thousand a year off royalties from this song... not bad for a one hit wonder, right??!!
A very memorable song from my "transistor radio always in hand" days as a kid. This was always a silly song for me, and this video made it even sillier...…...but in a fun way.
Carl Douglas had a great voice & this was such a fun song. I used to watch some of those movies...the fight scene choreographies & the skills to carry them off are just amazing. Enter the Dragon!
The year this came out a popular show in tv was called "Kung Fu" with David Carradine. CKLW was having a Countdown to #1 weekend & my brother decided to listen to all of it. My brother was in his room with the radio on & a friend had a transistor radio that we had on our porch. They said "CKLW's number one song". Kung Fu Fighting came on & I could hear my brother "ARGH! I STAYED UP ALL WEEKEND FOR THIS?!".
@susanfabian1521, CKLW -- the station of choice for many of my high school classmates. I live in North Central Ohio and the station, which broadcast from Windsor, Ontario, came in clearly here. Kung Fu Fighting was a major hit, spending two weeks at #1 on the Billboard Hot 100 in December 1974
Also speaking of CKLW, Kung Fu Fighting was #1 for all of December 1974 and two weeks in January 1975 on the station's Big 30 chart -- highly unusual for a song to stay that long at the top in those days.
I was 11 years old when this song came out back in 1974. The Kung-fu craze has already reached it's peak back then. The neighborhood theater screened karate/kung-fu double-features every week, we had "Kung-fu" tv series, and we've watched the cartoon "Hong Kong Fooey" every Saturday morning. This was also the time when Disco started to take hold of the musical landscape.

Yet another of the #1 Disco hits from the 70's. Also another of the many one hit wonders from that decade. The music from that era was designed to make you move! I have so enjoyed watching and listening to you react to this sweetheart, my younger siblings were up prancing around every time they heard it until the table was kicked and the tray with the teapot and other breakables went flying off. Mum went crazy and they were never allowed to dance to it indoors again. The funniest bit of it was the milk and sugar ended up on the family dog and he needed a bath after the floor was cleaned up. They were then sent to bed and grounded for a week. Everytime I hear this the memory of that makes me laugh so I was laughing with you and I wouldn't be surprised that others were too.
