I left all cancer support groups and you should too - here’s why.
After being diagnosed with stage 3 cancer, I did what most cancer survivors do. I searched for a support group. I desperately wanted to connect with other people so I could get help, guidance, and feel like I wasn’t alone.
But what happened next made my cancer experience so much worse. Let me show you exactly why.

I agree. My experience with an online Breast Cancer Support Group was much the same as yours, all it did was depress me.

You know, Dr. Amy, I just wanted to tell you. I found you when I didn't have a plan of how to move forward. I ended cancer treatment and felt like it had taken it all out of me, and I didn't have a clue what to do to help keep the cancer from coming back. Now I know what to do, what to eat, how important exercise it, and I feel so much better emotionally. Honestly, this is all down to you, and I thank you from the bottom of my heart.

Your voice is important and the right and wrong way to live with cancer doesn't make any sense if you don't get to live your life the way that you wanted to. And fighting cancer back makes much more sense than giving into it.

I had stage 3C cancer in 2015. I never wanted to join a survivor's group. After surgery, I went through the typical protocol of chemo & radiation to kill the "maybe" cancer cells floating around looking for a place to attach & grow. From the beginning, I chose to view cancer as any other foreign substance that didn't belong in my body & just needed to be removed. And I refused to live in fear. For me, attending a survivor's group would be giving the energy of cancer power over me & in my life. Why would I feed this negativity? Years ago, I witnessed Martha Mitchell tour the talk shows with her endless reliving of her witness to the Watergate scandal. I'm convinced this constant negativity contributed to (if not caused) her subsequent death from a rare form of cancer. No thank you. I can't control everything, but having more positive feelings & thoughts helps me live a better quality life without fear & powerlessness. Not all will share my views. That's okay. I'm only speaking for myself.

Cancer isn't my world, but Alzheimer's & Dementia is... and caregiver support groups are every bit as stress inducing.

I've just had surgery to remove stage two cervical cancer. Everything has been removed and the margins are clear, which is great news, however the doctors still recommend to have Radiotherapy.
And I have such a huge resistance to getting this treatment, it's like every cell in my body is screaming "NO, don't do it, it's not right for you!!"
I feel scared and uncertain as to how I should proceed. I'm a huge advocate for trusting the body, this is what I preach day in and day out, but this is a whole new level for me and I don't want this cancer to come back!
So now I'm looking for like minded people. People who have gone through the same or something similar. People who trusted their body and took charge of their health and life. People who went against conventional therapy, who took the leap and who are thriving as a result of it. I'm looking for support and a community of people who "get it". Who know the fears and who trust in their bodies.
That's why I'm posting this comment, I'm looking for"my" people. And I'd love to hear from you!
    Sabrina

I'm sorry you went through all this. I congratulate you on having the energy of a warrior to defeat cancer and live a healthy life. Congratulations on your children ! I want to say you were able to research and decide what you wanted to do in your treatment. I did that too. Many people don't get it when you think independently and you don't follow the medical cookie cutter protocol for your cancer. You brave and courageous! Your a champion for your life and an independent thinker. I congratulate you!

I was triggered constantly with an Ovarian group. I was looking for support, but each story was worse than the other. And be my Dr. .One time they were discussing when and how many recurrences they had. My Dr told me I had a 90% chance of no recurrence, and another survivor in on the same conservation had a case similar to mine, I spoke for both of us that recurrence does not happen to everyone. One smart mouth answered me back with “ No recurrences?…until there is one.”

I agree, I've also tried to register for a support group, but they all seem to join so they can whine together, and I just wanna send my cancerous formations into a complete remission and go on with my life.
