In this video, I will show you how to enable USB debugging mode on the Redmi Note 8 to activate USB file transfer with a computer and other compatible USB devices.
USB debugging is one of the hidden Android features stored in the Developer Options menu. It allows an Android device to sync and communicate with a computer over a USB connection. As a result, the Android device is able to receive files, commands and other types of information from the computer and vice versa.

Why you didn't show how to unlock developer options?
Go to “Settings” on your phone. Navigate to “About Phone.” Find the “MIUI version” and tap on it seven times until the “You are now a developer” notification appears on your screen.
not working, my pc cannot detect my phone via usb
Brrruuhhhh... I was about to lose my mind trying to fix this. Ever since i updated my phone, the "Transfer File" usb option wont work. It doesnt show in my computer too. Tried everything and nothing worked. Good thing I found your tutorial! Salamat pre :D

I managed to make it work after reinstalling the phone drivers through device manager. No idea why this suddenly started being the case but still thanks for your help.
Had the same problem, tried the video but it didn't help. Found out the computer needs a driver for the connection to happen. in my case for Xiami redmi note 8 I used the qualcomm USB driver
if you're on miui 12, find the miui version details that should be in "About Phone", in the first row, then tap the miui version tab 7 times, that should unlock developer mode
“Charging This Device Via USB” notification has disappeared without warning and switching on "USB- File transfer" in developers settings changes nothing.

"Developer options" are no more in theenu. Sigh.
Okay, I found how to enable d.m. then followed your instructions, rebooted both mobile and comp, connected USB cable. Still doesn't work. It worked before. Redmi 8Pro, Android 10 QP1A.
