Many blessings! Very, very good teaching! I have a question: Do the devotees believe these stories to be literal? Or is there room for disciples to take allegorical and anagogical lessons from the stories without having to commit to believing the stories as literal? Thank you and God bless!

Sorry to tell you, but the archaeological evidence you hold on to as "proof" does not enjoy "peer review" status. Until that happens it cannot be taken seriously by the scientific community.
I admire your zeal, but unfortunately you do not understand that allegorical and anagogical interpretations of stories and passages are valid in EVERY tradition...they are usually the philosophical teachings surrounding the literal account of a story.
My advice to you is to curb your zeal a little bit. When an "outsider" asks a question of your Faith, it is a good opportunity to share the Hare Krishna love, rather than to try to bite his head off.
God bless you! Chant Hare Krishna and be happy.
