  • A northbound Canadian National freight train heads up CN's Waukesha Subdivision at Honey Creek Road, north of Honey Creek, WI. The 78.7 defect detector gives a read out after the train passes.
***I keep getting the same question, asking what's up with the bell at this crossing. At the time I filmed this, they were in the process of installing new crossing signals and detection equipment. You can see a little bit of the gate mechanism of the new signal in the upper right hand corner of the screen and the other new mast and gate mech on the other side of the crossing. The Safetran bell had been disconnected by this point. The GS bell you're hearing is on top of the new signal, on my side of the tracks, out of the camera's view.

well for anyone really from the western racine county wi area , this was a popular spot to hang out and watch wi. central traffic and this was the hardest regency radio to hear without a professional radio. the crossing was already in the process of getting new gates installed. this is also a dispatcher radio location 161.295(79).as a csx employee now we have talked about this video because of the warning light terminated too soon. maintainers fear these issues. great video brenton81.

Love it when that first headlight appears over the rise, right at the beginning! I can hear Richard Strauss's "Night and Sunrise" from the Alpine Symphony in my mind's ear.
I'm glad you didn't sweep the camera around to follow the locomotive. Lots of railfans do, and then they stay pointed along the tracks, getting an angle to the tracks similar to yours, except now shooting the train moving away from the camera. I like a stationary camera-keep it simple.
    Great video! Thanks for uploading!

Lead unit is a CN SD50F (5430, I believe). Second unit is a WC 6900-series SD40-3 (looks like either 6901 or 6911). Neither unit is still on the CN roster. The SD50F's were sold out of CN's (ex-IC) Woodcrest shops in Homewood, IL (Markham Yard) several years ago through a locomotive auction. The 6900's were also sold, many of them acquired by Québec Gatineau Railway/QGRY. I work for St. Lawrence & Atlantic Railroad/SLR, one of QGRY's sister roads at Genesee & Wyoming Canada, so this is why we now have the QGRY 6904.

One of my first train videos. I watched back when I was a little kid. 16 years later, I’m still watching it. As of September 2023 but however the locomotives that were showed in the Video according to rrpicturearchives CN 5400 SD50F Was Sold To ASDX In Georgiana AL It was last taken in 8/31/2009 probably scrapped i dont know CN does have a New 5400 But its a SD60 and the other loco 6911 SD40-3 was sold to DMVW in Bismarck ND In 2016 and it was last taken in 2016 probably still in service but I am going to say this video bring me back memories

The grandmaster of all railroad videos! This even made me start filming trains on my channel. Do you remember if there was ever a Mechanical Bell here? And they could have added separate gates and saved a ton of money.

Yes, there was a mechanical bell and 8" lights there at one time. They couldn't just add gates to the crossing. They had to install new detection equipment and electronics with the gated signals.

Brenton81 interesting. Also, I never realized how rare Safetran Type 1 E-Bells are, especially since I never seen one. Maybe they could’ve reused it?

Possibly. They may have saved the light assemblies and bell, if it still worked. Masts and crossbucks more that likely ended up in the scrap heap.

Years ago when we were kids we knew when the train was coming thru town, we'd run out to meet it at the crossing and stand just feet away from the tracks and do the "honk at us" arm pull. They would always blare the horn more than they usually did for us. Feel the power rushing by, the noise, the ground shakes, quite exhillerating! :) Good times. Miss it!
