10 - 20 years from now, they might have managed to refine the Tech enough to make a Digitization of ya that actually notices ya are not actually bald! :P
Ok, the shot of all the cameras lighting up in sequence with the pictures they took after the flash is one of the most satisfying things I have ever seen.
"It's so exactly me everything works on it" Such a golden moment. And a Human one as well, since such a personal item like your own glasses, that you've never shared possession of before, now has "someone" to share it with. It doesn't matter who you are, having a perfect replica of yourself would just tickle the brain.
There are very few famous people I’d like to just be friends with. Adam is right there for me. He seems like a super cool guy that you could talk about literally everything with.
I did a model of my own head a number of years ago. I decorated my face with washable markers to make feature matching work better. Had a friend take about 100 pictures of my head from different angles. It worked, but I had to do a repair job on the top of my head, the mesh was somewhat broken there because hair is quite challenging. Used it to make silicone molds so I could give friends 'choocolate eric heads'. Converting the images to a model is done using 'photogrammetry' software. All the photogrametry software that doesn't run on the cloud seems to require an NVidia GPU because its based on a NVidia library called CUDA.
@@ThatOpalGuy only need to be rich enough to afford at least a $200 fdm printer and a cell phone. You can use a phone to do photogrametry to scan your head, print it, and make costume parts around it, or you can use the digital files in free software like meshmixer or so to scale/modify STLs around your scanned head.
@@ThatOpalGuy You don't need to be rich. Apple and Samsung already have 3D scanning apps using existing technology on the phones. They're not yet good enough, in my opinion, for this use, but they'll be there soon. There are also current mid-range options, depending on where you live and/or how much you can afford to travel for cosplay. They had a booth for a gyro-style scanning booth at Planet Comicon a few years ago, and I just Googled and there are quite a few options out there for it now. The high end is a few thousand, though, so it's not going to be your average cosplayer, but it's also not going to require a millionaire. It'll be the ones who can already afford to do algenate body casts.
man, a 3d scanned head that was 3d printed to be exactly the same size as the model would have been REVOLUTIONARY for SFX growing up! it sure makes custom jobs easier and no plaster or clay!
It's astonishing how perfect the replication of detail is -- and how little it still looks like Adam. I was expecting an Uncanney Valley moment and didn't get a hint of it until he pur his glasses on it. It's kind of looking at someone while they're asleep.
I have seen Adam put his glasses on so many different items and busts of himself over the years. The fact that they fit perfectly on that one blew my mind.
I acted on stage many years ago, and had a cast made of my head. It was uncomfortable, claustrophobic, and messy. This system looks like a good time. Adam is continuing to learn and explore SFX. It looks like a good time, and Adam is enjoying himself.
yeah theres no way im ever gonna not shrink in terror at the thought of being under alginate and plaster for any reason! and Ive always wanted a life size bust of my head for makeup but this is WAY better, I love the future
I must be surreal to have your image captured like that. Really gives you a new perspective of one's self. A self reflection, if you will. On a side note, this gives Adam the correct head size measurements for when he makes masks, helmets, headgear, etc.
That is honestly awesome. I’m sure you and everyone else in the industry wish they had this years ago. Every time I saw someone get casted on Mythbusters I felt awful because of how uncomfortable it looked.
I wonder if they could solve some of their problems with reflective and solid colors by doing something similar to what Marvel did with their high speed lighting film effect. They obviously wouldn't need a phantom camera since it's still images but taking rapid photos with lights that spin around could be enough to augment the "base" fully lit image. It might be able to correct for some of the edge cases they spoke about.
Adam: "Say I am a movie Star" No, Adam, you're even better. You're a reality TV show star who inspired thousands if not millions of us to work in various fields. Never ever put yourself down to the level of a mere movie star. ; )
some sanding and detailed paint work would make that thing insanely uncanny...dear god could you imagine glass eyes as well? XD Great way to freak out visitors to the cave.
These things are really cool, the game studio my dad works at, Remedy Entertainment, has had similar custom built rig for a while. I don't know for long they've had it but I imagine nearly a decade if not more in some form
I would like to see 3D scanning become so common that it could be used for making affordable custom clothes for everyone, especially shoes and gloves. I ride motorcycles, a lot, and I have the worst time finding helmets, boots and gloves the right size and shape. I have found that the right shape is just as important as the size. A 3D scan might become part of a routine visit to the doctor as it might be a way to detect illnesses in advance?
@@truantray That's cool. I've seen some pretty decent home 3D scanning and processing software, BUT... I'm not aware of any clothing maker that will use that data to make you a custom pair of motorcycling gloves or boots or anything really. That's the part of this that I'm really looking forward to, along with it becoming a pretty common option for getting fitted.
I'm a big fan of Reality Capture. There are other tools like from Agisoft but RC is so much more user friendly, it's like using an Adobe product like Photoshop.
I need to get myself 3D scanned and a double printed so that I can make my glasses fit. My face is Picasso like, and it takes hours of my own work to re-form the glasses frames to avoid pressure headaches and for the glasses to be level. That's in addition to the time for the initial fitting at the eye doctor.
The variety of bodies in the rig is fascinating to me (also, the fact that they're all Canon warms my Canon-shooting heart!). I know I saw both 100Ds and 60Ds in there, and I thought I possibly saw some 5D bodies there, too.
Amazing watching this tech and realizing it is the foundation of the future in immersion gaming/ environments. When soon we will wander through forests and oceans as though there.
This is very impressive and I'm not trying to be rude but using USB is insane to me when 10 years ago Cat6 cable was easily available to make this happen without 7 computers being involved to handle just the data side of this, honestly its more impressive in some ways too
I'm watching this and remembering the Mission Impossible episode. First, it really showed the hell (I'm claustrophobic, so for me at least it really would be) of getting your face cast. But second I'm left wondering if the improved definition you get with this would have improved the quality of the masks you and Jamie wore enough to make that at least a little more plausible.
if you end a real smooth one to David Costa of Dash and Dazzle in New York he can bring it to life. he is by far the best mannequin make-up artist in the USA....
Hello Adam, I have greatly admired your work for literally decades. I am from Mexico and I have never been able to learn English. It would be great if you added audio in Spanish to your channel like other content creators who have different audio languages in their content do.
Aside from how cool this all is, if the technology were capable of being more mass-produced and public, I could imagine a whole market where people would want to get 3D castings of loved ones before they die so they can still have a physical image of them around. Maybe creepy for some people, but there are a lot of people who would pay plenty to have something like that for their home.
I was an extra in the Elvis movie, and they took one of these of me in case they needed to digitally bulk out crowd scenes. I guess that means WB owns a digital model of me forever.
It's incredible how fast this technology has advanced. There was a booth at Planet Comicon in KC just a few years ago that was doing sort of a gyro rig where you had to stand perfectly still while it took many photos of you to produce...honestly a result I didn't care much for. And that was obviously a few generations in for them to do a portable rig to show off at cons. I'm guessing this will get to the point of being a standard in about 10 years, probably with implementations of the standard incorporating sensors and camera electronics directly into the structure of it so it's even more minimalistic. The cameras themselves have always been on a trajectory from early, highly-custom prototypes to standardized professional grade, then finally a transformative consumer grade. Part of me hopes I live long enough to see what this becomes by the time it reaches the point of consumer grade electronics in a few decades. We're already seeing hints of it with cell phones with Lidar and photo stitching being used for handheld 3D scanning, so part of me wants to think it'll just be integrated into whatever comes after phones as the platform our personal technology gets rolled into. I know people are into wearables right now as a vision of that future, and I could totally see this sort of technology network the visual fields of all the wearable technology in an area to generate real time 3D...but honestly the truly transformative aspect of the consumer grade implementation is that many technologies converge with each generation into something that wouldn't even occur to us before. Just as no one making the first photographic sensors envisioned arrays of them in consumer devices being used to 3D model something in a flash that could be then processed and printed, I wonder what we'll discover this can become the groundwork for.
