A very informative video as since removing my gearbox for what I thought was a RMS leaking it's the IMS so I just need to get the timing kit and I can get on with it.

Please can me let me know what year your car is? This is extremely interesting assessment of the situation.

I really think it's very risky to just remove the seal of the bearing. There is no positive oil pressure feeding it directly from the oil circulation system. It's just splashing of oil at best. I'm surprised you didn't find that in all the research you've done. I highly recommend, at a minimum, to replace that bearing with a new sealed one (or go with any of the upgrades and solutions available out there). Best of luck to you.

I just realized youre saying it's the "unserviceable" one. Ok in that case, since you decided to remove the bearing seal, have you considered a direct oil feed from an unused port on the engine or oil filter (adapter needed)?

I have of course considered. According to my mechanics the topic is severely exaggerated, they told me that if I want them to make more money they are happy to do it, but it’s in the interest of certain manufacturers to have this fear surrounding the m96/97. The fact is that there are many things there to worry about e.g. bore scoring, chain tensioner wear, oil pressure during track use, oil temp management and so on. My personal approach is, when it breaks it breaks and then I can take care of the above as opposed to spending now 10k+ on something that may never occur. Best of luck!

There is no visual breakdown of how to remove & re-install the IMS bearing. What was the purpose of this video?
