However in Retold it also spawns a dwarf whenever you finish an armory upgrade. This means you want to finish the first upgrades as fast as possible which is exactly what this build order does.

How was the buff for the dwarf mine in Retold? Back in AoT it was mostly used on Archaic Age

If you get an armoury upgrade before you get to classical and you advance while it is researching does it still remain 50% slower to research?
No it's starts researching faster the moment you advance. You can see it in this video if you look closely to copper weapons in the top-left.
