- Join me to discover the capital of the province of Teruel: the beautiful Mudejar city of Teruel, in Aragon (Spain). A 5-star city ⭐ ⭐ ⭐ ⭐ ⭐
⭐ We will start with its spectacular Mudejar heritage from the XIII and XIV centuries: San Pedro, the cathedral of Santa María de Mediavilla or the towers of San Martín and El Salvador. UNESCO World Heritage Site.
The evolution of Mudejar and its fusion with other architectural styles, such as modernism, leads us to discover the neo-Mudejar that dominates the aesthetics of the city, such as the one that can be admired on the Escalinata de la Estación.
⭐ ⭐ Teruel is also the cradle of one of the most tragic, well-known and inspiring love stories: Los amantes de Teruel. Do you want to know the history of the lovers of Teruel and the mummies of the two young people of the XIII century who inspired this legend? History or legend, is the basis on which one of the greatest historical recreations of the XIII century is based: The wedding of Isabel de Segura (also called "The medievals").
⭐ ⭐ ⭐ Under the stars of Teruel we find the traces of our ancestors, from the most archaic: large fossils and footprints of the gigantic dinosaurs that populated these lands, in its park of Dinópolis. Cave paintings, Iberian and Celtiberian ruins. Even the scars of the Civil War in numerous vestiges that recall one of the most terrible fronts of the struggle that devastated the country: The Battle of Teruel or the battles for Teruel, the "Spanish Stalingrad".
⭐ ⭐ ⭐ ⭐ But Teruel is its people, its parties and joy. Bulls and wine. They are the heifers of the angel, the Wedding of Isabel de Segura, bulls enogados, tamboradas, Holy Week, All Saints, ... choose your favorite, or better yet come and meet them all.
⭐ ⭐ ⭐ ⭐ ⭐ Capital of Jamón de Teruel (ham) DO, you will not lack places to eat well in the city. Choose from the simplest option: have a vermuth, a wine or some tapas to the option of accessing a dessert table. Here I recommend my favorites, although there are many more that are worth it.
👉 If you have a little more time, stroll through the city and its surroundings, tour the Jewish quarter and you can add to the visit other elements, according to your interests: the Museum of Teruel (do not forget to admire the views of the cathedral from its viewpoint), the medieval cisterns, the remains of the medieval wall, the Museum of Sacred Art and its imposing works of engineering, such as the aqueduct of the arches or the old viaduct.
👉 A few kilometers away you will find places as photogenic as disparate for example the Red Canyon or the walk along the Natural Tray of Guadalaviar River.
I think there are more than enough reasons for you to come and get to know this small city and its heritage. And when you arrive, do not forget to look up and contemplate the stars above you, especially its spectacular night sky, which postulates it as a candidate for the headquarters of the European Space Agency: From Teruel to the Sky (July 2022). Conocí esta tierra por la fotografía. Soy amante de las fotos nocturnas y como las noches de la sierra de Albarracín no hay en ninguna otra parte. Eso hizo que conociera la zona. Cuando quiero relajarme, este es mi lugar. Voy a menudo a Albarracín y siempre hago alguna escapadita a Teruel. Me encanta.
