Cars are not profitable. Trucks/Suvs were but are now priced beyond the means of 80% of US consumers. As a consequence the big 3 are now on life support. Most of their problems are self inflicted however Government regulations are a big contributor as well.
@@MikeV-t7o Would we? Seatbelts and air bags were offered before they were regulated and more the rule than the exception. The regulations haven't made the feature available, they simply removed choice from the equation.
POLITICS prevents north America from manufacturing longlisting reliable vehicles people want. I certainly do NOT want to buy an import Car as it doesn't contribute to our economy & with China's political issues & poor human rights laws I would NEVER buy from China knowingly & certainly not a car, If I had to buy an import, it would likely be from Europe. Chinese cars I use to love them but in recent times I prefer to buy local. The cost of cars are horrendous & not really affordable for most people on low budgets so for me, I would prefer to buy an old truck & restore it because it makes more sense to me personally.
@@billywayne9039I mean a passenger car, not just an SUV, crossover or truck. Ford put the world on wheels, but now, the only passenger car that they build is the Mustang!
Good video. I liked the information presented. It is true what you shared. They are fighting hard to avoid this in America. I like the fact you showed how it kept happening and it went from the Europeans, the Japanese, and then recently to the Koreans. Next it will be the Chinese. I liked fact you pointed out we do not really have any cars anymore and we have become and suv and truck and crossover country. GM and Ford have cars outside the United States, but not in the United States. I know Cadillac CT6 exists in China and Ford Taurus exists in The Middle East and as Mondeo in China. Lincoln has Zephyr in China. You showed the Buick La Crosse and they have Regal there too. Stellantis has the Charger sedan and coupe. America has to go act and act quickly. Thank you.
China has secured vast quantities of the source materials for the manufacture of batteries for electric cars and with state aid forged ahead of other country's in electric car production. I can't see many European manufacturers surviving without having vehicles made there and simply re-branding them.
I have already divested from Tesla and want to see about reinvesting in Chinese EV giants like BYD. I hate to say but at this point see as more a viable future than any domestic companies🎉 I am sure the govnt will do its damnedness to tariff these companies but we'll see how it affects the market
The Buick and the Lincoln are simply final assembled in china. They are not Chinese cars. Toyota Camrys are made here in America but no one says those Toyota Camrys are American cars. Other Toyotas Hondas Volkswagens Tesla's Volvos Nissans are also final assembled in china. But no one says those are Chinese cars.
Actually they do say that. The Toyota Corolla as been listed as the leading domestic automobile many times, and it is not alone. Of Course Toyota remains a Japanese company no matter where the cars are made. Can we still call Chrysler an American brand? Perhaps. The one I have a hard time which is when things like the Dodge Neon compete in "Import" races.
I wont buy an EV either. In freezing climates they are not an investment worth considering. Not even an Ebike which I have seen many break down & it costs a fortunbe to fix them, I ride my bike & use public transport.
With tariffs coming, it will be interesting indeed.
IF they are CHEAP, I mean REALLY cheap, they'll sell like mad!!!!

Self inflicted is right. Short sighted leadership. But yes, regulators and not looking out for consumers or companies.
Yes but regulations are necessary
Otherwise we'd be driving lead fueled chrome mobiles with 300 hp and no air bags or seat belts
@MikeV-t7o yes true but the downside is that cars are unavailable to most working Americans

Why can't US companies build a car that US buyers want?
The simple reason is that they make more money with trucks and SUV's . Americans are drowning in new car debt!
Oh they build tons of them. You just can't afford those ones. LOL

It's more profitable to build something no one wants that rots on the lot. Just ask any car blogger.
The auto industry will hold off Chinese autos with tariffs and regulations. The wants of US drivers means little to the titans
I can’t wait for my $950 Temu pick up so I can bring home my $300 Temu in ground heated swimming pool!

@@thehopelesscarguy Yes indeed....
this may be moot after Jan. 20,,,,,,,I see at least a 25% tariff on them
They don't want to make small cars that take less energy to move. No can do from USA.
It is all about the profit margins.
