Don’t beat yourself up like that brother. If you say basic, we know. If you say integrity, we know that too. You are my whiskey shaman.
Yay! My Malt Mention! 😄
I had bloodwork done last week and was found to be 90 proof.
Fellow malt mate here and I love the show, Ralfy. I work for a medical cannabis company and just wanted to chime in for a sec and say we are learning lots of new information on the subject and there are many more beneficial qualities to it than just Cannabidiol (CBD). It is now widely accepted that several other cannabinoids, even THC (the psychoactive component), as well as the terpenes (organic compounds which determine flavor and aroma) present in the plant also provide medicinal value. The future of medicinal cannabis involves a carefully constructed mixture of extracted oils catered to an individual based on their specific medical needs.
Dear Ralfy, thanks for your advise. Hope to see you in Scotland one day.
No matter the times, atmosphere is always friendly in the bothy. Here's to our knight in a checkered hoodie, sláinte!
Thanks Ralfy.
I did not know that I should be drinking plenty of water when drinking whiskey so that I don't get dehydrated. As soon as you said it I went and got a glass of water. Thanks for all the important and helpful information you give us.
Take care during these crazy days Ralfy. I wish we saw more independent bottles here in Ontario Canada. I agree 100% that age should be displayed on every bottle. We've all had great young whiskys.
For marketing purposes, distilleries like Dalmore and Bowmore should take the opposite approach and allow the independent bottlers to use the distillery names. Would work wonders for their reputations.
Good video Ralfy. Now you mention it I've just bought a bottle of staoisha form the ultimate single malt scotch whisky company an independent bottling company from Holland. single hogshead cask,63.7% , 6 yrs old and it also says on the bottle,Bunnahabain. Natural colour and non chill filtered, its state's distil and bottling dates and the cask number so they are at least being transparent.
Keep publishing the vids. Malt moments help to not be obsessed with coronovirus and give something pleasant to think about.
Well, what can I say. This malt has been the highlight of what has otherwise been a pretty horrible few weeks!! First of all, I rushed the purchase, meaning I ended up with the wrong malt, it was a BBR 18 Year Old Orkney, this was actually rather nice (this edition I think they used a sherry cask). I then managed to find the 17, and wow, this was even better! In fact, somehow I lucked out and ended up with a 1st edition (cask). Thanks again, keep the good news coming! Wes
Ralfy ! Two things... First - great review thank you. I will try and hunt that one down . I am over the over processed over priced watered down official bottlings of Highland Park. Second - I LOVED your book! What a great read. I will re-read it at some stage.
Good luck with your hunt, Mike...😁
So refreshing to hear you talk about the dangers of alcohol, and last week the quality of today's whisky compared to yesterday ! Nice to hear that from someone of "authority", no bullshit about all aspects of the hobby :)
You're not wrong about ledaig. I got an amazing Cadenhead bottling from the campbletown shop last year. I would go do far as to say Ledaig is my favourite dram at the moment, would love a review.
Thanks Ralf- Ive noticed due to isolation drinking a LOT more, and looking forward to it being part of my day- Its getting a bit of a "thing" now, but I think like food its out of boredom etc
. . . take it slow, and have alco-free days !
Yes Ralfy, include some wine reviews! Let's see your alliteration prowess with wine. Take care. -Alex
Great idea Ralfy. Reviewing of wine. I looking forward to that. Lot's of great videos and great stories. Greetings from Serbia . Cheers.
There's an old saying - "The man takes a drink - The drink takes a drink - The drink takes the man"
Ralfy, couple things.
First thank you for putting out a review, much needed normalcy right now.
Second be safe and take care of yourself. When we come.oit the other side of this mass panic, hysteria and oh yes a virus, wouldnt be the same without you.
dont worry hes got a sabre for short range defense and his bow/bows for long range
I had a bottle of the BBR 15 yo 'Orkney'. Better than any Highland Park I've tried in 10 years.
Brilliant review. Glad to have a bit of normalcy in these trepidatious times.
I agree with most of the other commenters in that a red wine review would be most welcome. Additionally, i have an 18yo Gordon & Mcphail Ledaig that has yet to be opened. Would love a review on an indy bottling of Ledaig.
If you do a wine review then maybe a nice aged Port?
Came across a Signatory "Unnamed Orkney" (it's Highland Park, of course), cask strength at 56.2%, single cask (with cask number and "bottle 113 out of 323"), 13 yo. It was the last bottle on the shelf, wish I could've picked up a few. Looking forward to it. I actually thought the intrigue was pretty neat, considering only 2 distilleries on Orkney. Love HP. I don't mind interesting malts even with rough edges, i.e. I enjoy HP Dark Origins - not as refined as 12 or 18, but it's naturally presented. Didn't pay full price :)
Hi Ralfy, reg. the reasons that quite a number of distilleries don't want their name attached to their whisky if independently bottled are surely manyfold. A few popping to my mind are that some distilleries don't like the total lack of control over the maturation process and quality control in general. Another could be that some sell/sold peculiar casks that don't reflect the distillery character and hence don't want customers given the wrong impression about the distillery house style. Another - perhaps even in HP's case to a degree (where - I wholeheartedly agree - it logically does not make much sense to try to hide the identity of the distillery) could also be that there are many well-aged good to superb independent bottlings for a reasonable price out there the distillery doesn't (want to?) match themselves. How can they justify their countless nas bottlings (or Fire and Ice for that matter) in light of solid aged ones for better value by other companies? So they might try to avoid the issue as good as possible. If they could prohibit the mentioning of the Orkney region, I wonder if they would? It could also be that they just charge a premium for those who wish to use the name, I noticed that "real" HP independent bottles are usually more expensive, but can't tell who's responsible for it. Distillery, bottler, cask brokers, all of the above? Any suggestions?
Anyhow, good to have you around Ralfy, stay healthy! Cheers! Btw. the last really good Orkney Single Malt I had was the one from Whiskybase celebrating their 130.000 bottles on the wall. :-)
Cadenhead's have a very recent 11yo Ledaig bottling (55.2%, Authentic Collection) which I highly recommend to anyone. With water it develops a kind of aerial old school whisky feeling. Truly enchanting!
Ralfy, the main reason I see why they forbid to use their name is so they can charge much more for their vintage bottlings. If an independent bottler would for example ask 100£ for a 20y old Highland Park, it’s hard for the official distillery to ask 300£. I’m afraid that’s the main reason. We’ll see this happen with Clynelish too. Unfortunately.
"Follow the money".
Hey Ralfy! May I point you towards a bourbon some time in the future when you can? The Little Book Chapter III, a blend, product of Jim Beam. It's the most intense bourbon I've had in my life, I think there's a lot of quality in that product which comes in strong at barrel strength (61-ish percent). Would love to see you try it, and review it!
Milroy bottle another "Orkney Islands" 18 yrs, quite a nice version of Highland Park at higher strength. If you like Glenfiddich the name for their Tea-spooned version is "Hector Macbeth" Cheers!
Excellent review
Science has it that Single Malt Scotch Whisky antagonizes Corona, but it's got to be cask strength.
you have all the whisky but we have all the weed in canada hahaha
I would love to see a wine review from you. I think both wine and whiskey pair well together for people that enjoy spirits.
There seems to be a large disconnect between whiskey drinkers and wine drinkers and I don't get it.
My story is pretty unusual in that regard: I used to love red wine and even collected a bit. Now I am a 100% Scotch guy (500+ bottles) and haven´t touched any wine since years!
THC also has medical properties
I'm very similar with my drinking habits, I very rarely drink on a Monday unless it's a special occasion apart from that 3-4 days a week of drinking no more, our livers are very important!
im impressed your liver is clean, u uploads are informative lets get on with the bottle.
Hi
We badly need an OVERALL compelete WINE REVIEW touching upon rehions and varieties and bang for the buck options
great opening ralfy
They’re afraid of being shown up by the independent bottler! They should take note and get their act together with the official bottlings instead!
Words of wisdom words of wisdom
Nice see u after a long time
Berry Bros. and Rudd website is definitely worth a visit.
Another great review, Ralfy. Which indy bottle of Ledaig are you looking at? I recently picked up my second bottle of sherried 2005 Single Malts of Scotland Ledaig 11 Year, and it is fantastic!
Nice review =) i had a glass og my Dewars who i blended myself at rhe distillery. I have to say it whas impressive stuff=) be safe take care
Happy Malty Monday Dear Sir! Would love love love to know your thoughts on red wines if that’s something you are considering. See you in the extras!
. . . good idea for an extras !
I nearly bought one of these at Robbies drams in ayr in November. Went for the last 00 vit balblair tho
Hello Coronamaltmates😊😉
St Patricks day Ralfy ...mo irish whiskey whiskey review 🇮🇪🇮🇪😢
. . . not this time. one later in the year.
@@thewhiskybothy only one ..think you maybe make that 2 ...Egans is an interesting one 👍👍
Great review. Now I'm feeling so thirsty... slangevar Ralfy 🥃🥃
Is it not good to have 1 and sometimes 2 but no more, small drams every day?
But I thought that Scapa doesn't sell stock to independent bottlers, therefore this is an "implied" integrity bottling, by default 😁
Excellent advice there ralfy , may I ask what you mean by the scotch mist appearing after you added some water ? I also look forward to your comparison here. 👍🍻🍻
. . . 'scotch mist' is cloudy whisky due to oils and wood extracts in alcohol.
I only recently wrote an article on my blog site about a brand of strictly kosher single malts where they do not state which distillery they are from. Through a lot if effort, I believe I have managed to track this distillery down. However, I 100% agree with your point.
Would you be happy buying a single grape wine where they refuse to actually state which grape? What would be the point of telling us it is a single grape?
Would you think it was not a little strange to state that the port was a single vintage but refuse to tell us which year?
What's the point of telling us that this is a Single Malt, that is, the whisky was distilled in a single distillery, but then will not tell us from which distillery.
But, Ralfy, you have missed another annoying fact about this whisky. It states it is a single cask. Cask No,3. But does not tell us what type cask! If you are going to boast this is a single cask then tell us what it is! Ex-Sherry, Ex-Bourbon, Ex-Rum, Fist Fill, Refill….It's all very irritating.

No Irish whiskey for St Patrick's Day ?
I wonder how the coronavirus is going to affect whisky prices?
They've essentially closed the bars in California, but I haven't seen liquor store prices skyrocket. Yet.
Pennsylvania state liquor stores close tomorrow until further notice.
I do the same but with cigars!, every thing in moderation!.... damn it’s hard !😆
g'day Ralphy can you tell us what water you use for dilution. Spring? distilled? tap?
. . . filtered tap water.
I hate squeaky corks! Shivers 😱
Polystyrene does it for me. Oddly, I have to wet my fingertips in response (pre-virus days of course!).
W Thornton Oh yes, that's another sound I can't stand 😬 it must be something from our ancient Human past. Perhaps poisoness Animals sounded squeaky back then.
@@James-oo1yq Good thing there were no blackboards back then - although cavemen must have had really long fingernails :-O
had a quick look online (here in the UK), can't see it available anywhere?

Chateau Petrus review coming up?
. . . good option !
Hey Ralfy, why is it unlikely for an independent bottling to be Scapa?
Scapa has had periods of closure so the year may be from a time the distillery was closed. At the same time Scapa is a small distillery so it’s often not easy for indie bottlers to get a cask from them if the owners need the whisky for official bottles and blends.
I also just checked since I wasn’t sure but Scapa was mothballed from 1994 to 2004. So this is definitely not from Scapa.
. . . not a lot produced at Scapa compared to HP !
Must get my liver checked!😯
You need a fiber scan to identify liver damage through alcohol mate. A blood test is not good enough. Watch Adrian Chiles "drinkers like me" on RUclips.
If you drink so little, why is there often bird song and Cockerell crowing in your videos? Don't kid yourself 😉
Take care
3:55 are you speaking from experience? ;)
. . . just is !
👍❤️🥃
Monotheistic Miesters of the Malt Meritocracy
. . . now on the M-mention List, thanks !
Ralfy, would you consider tasting Hennessy VS cognac at some point for a video? Thanks.
. . . no plans at the moment !
