- A super easy cheap mod to remove the air restriction helping to benefit exhaust and fuel injection modification for horsepower gain.
I will be opting for a side port on the airbox later on after I source a second hand cover and keeping my original, rather than butchering the top snorkel with holes like many other clowns do.

That screen is there to keep your filter from being sucked into your motor!

This makes absolutely no difference. People thinking this will make more power probably got suckered into buying those little push in filters that you drill out the air box cover for. People need to quit reading forums and thinking everything on there is true.
Yes, I talked to a Honda mechanic and he said that this exact "mod" is not only splitting hair difference but can also be dangerous. He also said that there is ways to increase hp and torque on the 250L and it does involve properly done airflow (foam filter like on actual dirt bikes, full exhaust line, jet kit and probably most importantly, changing your gear ratio). He also told me that the size of the snorkel did not need to be changed, that with the above mentioned mods, the hole was plenty big enough to provide all the air flow the engine needed. So cutting holes in your side panel is a waste of time and just another few places for water to get in if you go off roading where there is too much water.
It's a breathing machine. All engines are. It combining more air. Better exhaust and computer together. Trust me. If you were correct it would run like an R model right away.

I heard that taking that backfire screen is actually a bad thing to do. Last thing you need is for your bike to be on fire while your riding it.
It is a paper filter , so I bet it's on there for a reason . Just spend the coin for a high quality filter like k and n , you won't regret it . They are fire retardant gauze filters that can be cleaned out , and oiled over and over , forever . It's the first mod I do on any bike , no matter what , and it won't void the warranty . At least he didn't cut a hole in the airbox , that had countless hours of engineering put into it like most do though . I cringe every time I see someone doing that to their bikes . I guess they just think it's a regular old , every day box , that was just made to hold whatever filter the manufacturer decided to use , and has nothing to do with engine tuning . Hey kevz canada. Hows your 2017 doing? :) I've been reading alot on crf250l pages about that screen. Many people are reluctant to touch it at all. But read one guy who removed it from his 2017 and has never had problems since. He doesnt have ejk either.

I took off the screen, but then got worried about a back fire fire so I bought a new OEM filter and put it on.
I really don’t think there’s much if any gain doing that “mod”. 👍

That engine won't last 3 years. Mark my comment. The only way to add more air is to poke holes on the black cover. Nothing else.
If you poked holes in your airbox , then your engine won't last three years … mark my comment . = / A simple K and N air filter is like night and day compared to stock , and a noticeable difference too .
