Tbh audio/video recordings don't do V-twin/270 crank sounds justice. They cant pick the bass up that well. I used to think the SV650 doesnt sound too powerful until I checked a unit out in person. Bought it the following day lol.
@@Drt0Kkdo yeah thats absolutely true. I just know them really well, by having a MT-07 and my dad has a V Strom 650 which has the same engine as a SV 650

This is why I think car enthusiasts should be motorcycle enthusiasts as well... In cars, it's usually just cross-plane & flat-plane crankshafts. In motorcycles you have a big pool of variety that you can actually hear.
eh. there’s plenty of weird and cool car engines; boxer twin, in-line 5, flat six, vr6, w12, w16, even v16, are all unique. but i love the small weird motorcycle ones too
As a motorcycle enthusiasts they're all music to my ears. Not biased to Japanesse, British, Italian, Bavarian, or American Motorcycles..but the 270° degree firing order is sublime
The deeper tone mostly comes from the larger displacement. In that respect, his isn’t a fair comparison, if we’re being honest. To hear strictly the difference between the crankshaft designs and firing orders, look up the channel William Moser on this wonderful RUclips. You’ll notice there aren’t any really small displacement 270° twins. Gotta keep that sound for the expensive/big bikes, or the cool sound loses the bass. Honda, for example, could easily make a small 270° to use in five different bikes, but they haven’t. Instead they put it in the Africa Twin, Rebel 1100, Hornet… That said, I do like a 270° best. Partly because of the sound, but also the engineering behind it.
@@sterlingroberts6240 there's a new bike from cfmoto. It's a 450cc 270 crank. I thought it was an mt07 when it did a drive by. Deeper and angrier than my interceptor 650 setup which is also a 270 crank.
@@r.i.p2464 that’s a fine anecdote, but that’s just it. Smaller displacement(specifically per cylinder) still leads to a higher pitch. Exhaust tuning, bore and stroke, rpm…they all can affect the tone, but ultimately my original point remains. A 6.7L cross plane V8 will almost always, if not just always sound deeper than a 4L V8, even when both are at the same rpm, and even after ignoring the different timings.
360 has a nice classic sound that's really good at low revs and high load. The audio in this showed VERY low revs. They actually BUZZ at higher revs. At 6,000 revs an old Triumph sounds a lot like a Banshee at 3,000 revs, because of course it would. 270 is great because it sounds gnarly at ALL revs. 180 used to sound pretty good in the old carbureted days when they ended up being a bit rough and lopey sounding. Today they rev so high and run so smooth it almost sounds fake, like if you asked an AI to make "motorcycle noise".

I've had 4 Triumphs that were all 270 degree twins. Speedmaster, 2x America and a Thunderbird 1600. But I'm looking to buy a 360 degree Bonneville at some point. They're both great sounds for their own reasons.
